I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience using AK's Acrylic range of Inks? They seem new as I dont recall seeing them last year, and anywhere I've seen to buy it doesnt have appear to have any reviews, even on Amazon. I bought a 30ml bottle of Vantablack thats due to arrive next week and I'm kinda excited to get it. For those who havent heard of it before, Vantablack was created to be the 'blackest black' paint in existence, there's a whole story about its development thats pretty wild if anyone's interested in digging into that.

But I digress, I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on using them, what models they've use them on and for what details, etc, and how its differed from using regular acrylic paints. I searched a bit and didnt see anything recent on AK's paint range so I hope I'm not reposting a question thats already been asked! Thanks!

I have no direct experience with either.

However, I have heard things about Black 2.0/3.0 (I assume you mean one of those). So obviously it's ultra-ultra-matte to get that effect. Which apparently means a very rough finished surface that's also very easily damaged when handling. And obviously if you seal it, that's probably going to impact the effect. I've also heard that the effect isn't quite what you see with Vantablack, which isn't commercially available IIRC.

But don't let me be a Debbie Downer...give it a try and see what you think. I was exploring using it for a terrain project...the "easy to damage" component turned me off, but it could still be interesting in the right application.

I picked up a couple but haven't used them yet. They look like regular inks, which means highly pigmented and very thin.

Its just arrived today and I've given it a little whirl! Its not too bad! As someone said its an ink so its quite thin (I actually wonder if it would be good in a spray gun cos its really thin, and comes with a dropper) but it looks nice, and it dried surprisingly fast too. I'm looking forward to using it some more. I'll post some pictures when I get around to it!

If they come with the same kind of rubber bulb dropper lids that Daler Rowney inks come with, you may want to eventually transfer them to paint dropper bottles. Those rubber droppers always end up failing me and can even leak.

They are satin and very limited in colors. Not recommended. My friend even returned them.

If you are looking for that type of paint, you should check the new acrylic inks from GSW https://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/129-acrylic-inks.
They have more colors, a mat finish, and are available in transparent and opaque version. Similar to Liquitex but with a better grip.
I bought 6 transparent and 2 opaque, and I will probably buy more.
