This month the topic was Let's Finish This! - Soldiers prepped for the big battle, two arch-enemies in a duel, a sniper ready for that one, perfect shot. In meta terms, we could tackle something we have been meaning to get around to, or else those last few models from a starter box. This month we’ll also suspend the “must be painted in the month” rule and allow you to finish a project that was previously started, but stalled. However if you choose this option, you must post a proof picture of the start point, preferably early in the month. Painting a partially finished model is an option, and not required. You can start something new that fits the theme and participate as normal.

As always, you're free to hand out as many votes as you like, and for any entry you feel deserves recognition, based on anything from technical proficiency or model choice, a neat conversion or a cool take on the theme, or anything else! You're also very welcome to leave some feedback here for the entrants, and many of the images click through to the Dakka gallery if you'd like to give out a vote or two there as well.

There's a problem with the poll. Midget Gems isn't listed. His name should be between Nevelon and ZergSmasher.

Thanks. Fixed now. Unfortunately out of place at the bottom, but on the poll.

I do run a QA doublecheck on the pictures, to make sure nobody is hiding in poorly closed spoiler tags (which happens all the time) but it’s harder to spot when people are missing from the poll. And after an hour and a half copy/pasteing walls of text, I miss things occasionally.

That’s why I end the poll with a “if you see something let me know”. And also why I wait a few days before I vote. People who I screw up their entry get a free vote from me. Not that it would help if I was going to vote for them anyway, but it’s something.

Solid work all!

Few Highlights.
Midget Gems - Mordheim Ruined Church
Superb! I however like the freehand on the stained glass windows, it adds much of color spots and detail interest to the piece overall.

ZergSmasher - Redemptor Dreadnought
Well done on the base. I like the clean look and the crispy decal work. Very nice.

youwashock - Cammy
Good job on the skin transitions and the face details. Awesome paintjob on the awesome canvas.

straken619 - Askurgan Trueblades
Love the color scheme on these, variations of red and grays and the pale skin.

halfling84 - Prism Tank
I cannot not highlight anything RedAlert related! You did some serious work on this one! Thank you for sharing.

@ Lovejoy, thats a pretty original magic sword, also like the palet on the knights, don't think I've seen these color combinations before.
@ Mothsniper, same with colorcombo, awesome reds on pinks and purples with the sandyness her and there. lantern glow etc, gives that proper chtonian feel.
Did you sculpt that slugbeetlething yourself?
Also, the slugbeetlething is on a beautiful mudstone base man, thats eyecandy.

Thank you sir! The pink lanterns did turn out well.
The base is greenstuff with a spare piece of Magmadroth.
No, it's the Gnome model from.Reaper

Time for some winners!

in 3rd place with 23 votes we have Midget Gems’ Mordheim Ruined Church.

Second place with 24 is CancelledApocalypse’s pair of lovely Battle Wizards

Lovejoy’s grim and weathered Stormcast take the gold this month with 28 votes!

--

Congrats to the winners, and this month especially, congrats to everyone who finished something. The fight against the Pile of Shame is a endless battle, and many half finished projects lie wounded on the sidelines. Keep putting brush to plastic/metal/resin and getting those models finished and ready for battle! Or display; we don’t judge. The important thing is to keep on painting!

Some quick comments for the month:

Mothsniper - Love the colors you’ve used on these and the interesting way you’ve applied the paint. Full of character, you got a vote from me!

ShadowsandDust - Great model and nice neat paint job. I felt the photograph was kind of too stark in contrast and hid some of the details which is a shame. Still, great work.

Geifer - It’s a Wookie. It’s therefore great.

Daia T’Nara - Wonderful, bright and vivid work. Very striking and bold work. Love it.

InMyGravenImage - Some lovely colors here and nice detail work. Good job.

Leopold Helveine - Lovely job on transmitting that ‘horror’ vibe here. Great work on the skin.

Mr Nobody - Beautiful work on bringing out the detail with these guys and Mandy’s cape looks great.

Captain Brown - This is beautifully painted. The work on the jewels and fabric is wonderful and the cape is absolutely stunning. Awesome!

Josh in Japan - Interesting model here. Oddly unsettling for some reason.

Halfling84 - Excellent weathering and detailing on this tank.

Turaxa - Gory stuff. Nice work on the wounds.

Nilfisken - This is a really clean and crisp paintjob. Excellent work on keeping it all so tidy and readable!

Straken619 - Really like these models and the choice of colors here is excellent. Very very pleasing unit to look at.

Llama head - A very sickly looking dude!

Syro - Congratulations on getting through so many marines!

Xyabis - Nice work on the wings!

Vejut - This is a nicely done werewolf. I cast a vote your way. Good work on the fur….plus…you know… it’s a werewolf…so it rocks.

Gulgog TufToof - Really beautiful little bit of work here. Lots of lovely details, all very clean and well realised. The rust effects are very well done too!

Dirk Deadly - This is very well done and I love the colors you’ve chosen. This is such a detailed model but that hasn’t stopped you from getting it done in time! Kudos my man. The work on the banner and leathers is lovely. Very nice. Great work.

Love joy - I was amazed by the color scheme on these Stormcast. It’s beautiful. The way you’ve incorporated various pastel colors into smaller details is also quite lovely. Definitely eye catching work and you got my vote!

Kid Cthulhu - Nice clean work here and the eyes are very well done!

YouWasShock - This girl leaves little to the imagination… and you’ve painstakingly worked on bringing those assets to life. Also, that hair is absolutely brilliantly done!

Maharg - Loving these dudes. Very well done.

Pariah Press - Nice colors and the face is excellent!

Nevelon - As Sgt. Apone once said ‘Absolutely badasses’. Crisp and clean and ready to get it on!

Midget Gems - I salute you for this wonderful terrain piece. The work on the stone and the stained glass is wonderful and the whole piece just has a really magical tone. Truly lovely work. You got my vote!

Zergsmasher - Dead or alive, you’re coming with me. Nice job.

Cancelled Apocalypse - Striking and crisp work on the fabric here. Excellent use of subtle shading and highlighting. Beautiful colors. These are wonderfully painted. I cast you a vote!

Well think that is it. Congratulations to all the winners. Great work all round. I’ve been trying to choose simpler models for the next couple of months as the year is in full swing and the work is picking up as always. Strangely, I get far less time to paint but much more inclination to buy more models. It’s an irony I can live with.

Until next month!

Thank you both - I keep being tempted to switch to a plain metallic armour, just to speed up getting an army finished. But I think this colour scheme will look really nice if I can pull it off over multiple units.

Thank you for all the votes! Much appreciated! Although TBH, I was just glad to finally get something painted again!

Thanks for the comments, XvArcanevX. I'll try to change the backdrop for future photos. I messed up the zipper for the outer casing, so I might not be able to use the black backdrop.

Thank you! I was trying to go against the typical garish paintjobs I usually see on this model.
Plus, I prefer the old school Empire ogre fleshtones to the grey-ish Ogre Kingdoms palette.

Your charnel throne was amazing. The gore was a nice touch

Just recovering from a really rough week with covid. Well done to everyone and thanks to those who voted for my entry, I was surprised I did so well this time.

I don't really have the energy for in depth comments right now, but my faves were: Geifer, Mr Nobody, XvArcanevX, Nilfisken, Gulgog TufToof, Lovejoy and Midget Gems. Top work guys!

Thanks! I didn't really put much effort in on the base at all, but I'm glad it turned out okay. The decals were a lot of fun to do and I'm glad you liked them.

XvArcanevX wrote:Zergsmasher - Dead or alive, you’re coming with me. Nice job.

Thanks very much!

Everybody did pretty good this month, and we all got something moved out of our pile (or mountain, in some cases) of shame, so well done to all of us! Shout out as always to Nevelon for taking the time to run this comp, and I'll see you all in the next one.

It wasn't just a piece of the pile of shame for me, it was also the last Tyranid I had left to do.
So my Tyranid army is completely finished now. *wipes sweat from forehead*

Finally started on my mount-meru of shame called AOS Nurgle now though, and still have many unopened Votann boxes piled too..
