I'm working on a Harlequins kill team where each of the models' paint job is based on a different independent professional wrestler, and in working on this, I came across the idea: is there any sort of established Aeldari/Drukhari language or whatever that one can use to come up with names for space elves that aren't just using pre-set lists? I want to use the names of the wrestlers that these models are based on as a base to come up with more space elf-y names, but am not sure how to go about that otherwise

article you can read in the 40k compendium flat out uses Irish, where a war mask is an Agaith. The novel Chaos Child (Jaq draco/Ian Watson) also uses a full sentence in Irish as an Eldar aphorism.

Wrestlers names are pretty irish already. Dubhán is Dwayne and Ion ("ian") is John. I'm pretty sure Bobby Rood and the guy with a knife on his chest also have straightforward aeldari names. I think Blue Meanie might be an Irish monster from the other side of the Irish sea. Seriously I don't remember his name, the one with the pee emails, it's Blonde Frye or something.

Eldar words are often based on Irish, like Saim Haim -> Saimhain, Bieltain -> Bealtaine. Banshee is originally an Irish word meaning Fairy Woman and so on.

The main problem is people not pronouncing the words correctly because of the rules for Irish pronunciation not lining up with English, but that's only a big problem if you're playing with Irish people.

In school, we were often shown that our Irish names had been Anglicised and told the Irish spelling and pronunciation of our names, so a lot of wrestler names might have Irish versions or equivalents as pelicanforce has shown.

unfortunately, half the names i'm using are Japanese and I'm not sure if it's going to be as easy for "Maki" as it is for "Kenny". this gives me a place to start, at least! thanks!

Yeah Japanese to Irish is not gonna be direct, but if those names have meanings perhaps you could find Irish names with roughly equivalent meanings?

i was thinking that i find the way the sounds are written in Irish and transliterate the names that way. something like Machí instead of Maki, but with more than five minutes of googling applied

A Tolkien Elvish Translator I found Kiiiiiinda gets the job done. Quenyan/ Sindaran I think are also Gaelic/ Irish based in a way.

Sindarin is supposed to have been based on Welsh while Quenya is rooted in Finnish.

Welsh being a Brythonic Celtic language not a Gaelic one. They are related but not that closely.
