Hi guys

Any oldheads remember the Base Render product from 4Ground? It was some kind of plaster-like material that came in a pot already mixed and when applied to the model would dry into a very brittle solid.

Anyway mine is nearly run out but they don't make it anymore and was looking for a replacement. Preferably something premixed not not just a dust I have to add water to every time, but even if you can just tell me what the material is I can at least figure the rest out from there. It's pretty hard to google because as you might imagine terms like 'modelling render' and 'wargaming render' give very unrelated results.

I imagine it probably is some sort of plaster, but are there different types? I don't really know anything.

That stuff is spackle isn’t it? Wall filling paste/putty. Possibly with slightly more coarse sand mixed in for texture.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

It's hard to tell without actually having it in my hands but this seems different. Base render is much less coarse, in fact its barely gritty at all, and it looks like it goes on easier.

Also is it polyfilla as in polymer? I don't think this stuff is poly based, although i could be wrong.

Polyfilla is at the thick end of the market designed for filling proper holes. It’s a proper putty. There will be thinner products for skimming plasterboard walls. I would recommend hitting a hardware store and checking out the filler aisle
