Hiding from Florida-Man.

I’ve been diving into the Horus Heresy 2nd Edition Rules lately and reading that there are apparently other units in the Horus Heresy that aren't large mechs or stompy robots. Who knew?

Lately, I've watched the cool mini of the week parade... and I've thought about playing Marines.

My initial problem was that I wanted a mix of Traitor and Loyalist forces because there are just so many cool models on both sides of the aisle.

I read a post on Dakka about Blackshields, so I started to look up more about them, when I found Endryd Haar, the Riven Hound.

I think he looks fantastic, and I’m curious if there are rules for him in the current edition. Additionally, I’d love to know if there are rules for Blackshields as well.

If they do have rules, how fun are they to play?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS. I've been playing since 3rd Edition and I've never played Chaos. Not even in a single game for any GW system... but I'm trying to branch out in 2025.

Rules for the Blackshields appear in the Battle for Beta-Garmon book. I haven't read though them extensively myself, so I'm not overly familiar with them and therefore can't/won't comment on their rules. But my understanding is that they have a few interesting list builds/wargear combos.

I think the draw of a Blackshields army is that you can really make them "Your Guys", which the Legions proper can be a bit harder to do with.

I thought it would be fun to collect a bunch of Traitor Legionnaire models (I might even buy a 1kSon), but not play a traditional force.

Plus, I think it would be fun to have worn down, and patched up armour and vehicles in HH games.

I don't play marines for of fear of being labeled "that guy".

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Run while you still can... it's too late for me.

I have Knights... for casual games. I think I'm listed specifically in the list of things that make you, "that guy."

Out of curiosity, why? Unless you're running Stone Gauntlet with 40 Phalanx Warders, 30 Lascannons as backup and Dorn.

I'd recommend giving the Goonhammer article a read before you commit to anything. It breaks Blackshields down quite well IMO.

It seems that every time I look at a 30k army, it's either incomplete, broken, or ridiculously complex to play.

Well, the other player would be upset if we both turn up with marines!

Wait, what? You really should've used Spoiler Tags... now it's all ruined.

It's like that time they spoiled the ending of Titanic and told me the boat sinks.

By the looks of it we're on the other side of the world to each other, but I feel like we should be having a guy's night in - grabbing drinks out of the fridge - and enjoying episodes of Family Guy and movies like Airplane, Hot Shots and The Naked Gun.

High-five, man.
