I'm a big fisher, magnet fishing is a new thing I got into as well, not a ton of metal stuff in lakes but it's there, found some fishing rods, bike parts, and car parts, even the barrel of a gun in some coves. Fish fishing though, that's where it's at, I'm a big bass fisher and love catfish fishing too. Keystone and thunderburg are spots I go, thunderburg is just a fun lake, not great for fishing, but Keystone is great, I fish by the underwater houses, the MASSIVE catfish I've caught. Once heard a story one guy was underwater welding and a 6 foot catfish swam up on him, bout to turn him into his lunch.
anyways, how's God treating y'all with lake fishing in the south.

I'm not in the South. Western Iowa here. I've more or less given up on fishing more than 2-3 times per year. IT seems like EVERY lake has the same combination of fish stocked in it. Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, and a catfish species. Perhaps some carp. Are their some others swimming around? Yeah, but they're a small minority.
And it's EVERY lake, whether public or private. If you want to catch something different you'll need to drive 80+ miles, and that's a weekend trip at least, and I'm short on time as it is.
I'd love for an eccentric individual to import some bowfin, alligator gar, or some pike. It'd really change things up.

Yeah, I took a trip there once to fish with my dad, y'all's bass and catfish are, no offense, just way to weak, or our bass and catfish are heavier, bigger, and stronger. The magnet fishing, what I got to do there was promising, fished by a bridge and got a tackle box with a metal handle and a bunch of hooks and weights. My dad caught 3 catfish because he was using all his catfishing gear, I was just bass fishing and caught 4 large mouths, about cooler 17 inches for each, one was missing an eye though, still tasted good.

Wait? People fish in lakes? But there's all that ocean surrounding us...
Lakes are just breeding grounds for gar, gators, noseeums, mosquitoes, and Fish & Game cops.

Has anyone gotten into micro-fishing? I introduced my kids to it a few years ago and they get a kick out of it. Try fishing for the smallest fish you can find.
There is a small pond nearby with a drainage stream that runs through a small patch of woods. It's, at most, 8 inches deep and 8 feet wide, and usually less than half that. We've been using Ice fishing rods with 5-pound line and tiny hooks. Fish fry get washed down there all the time and survivors do live in there. Catching bass and bluegill 1.5-2 inches long is funner than is sounds. Many of the bluegill have wound up in our aquariums.

Bruh, all of us states that don't have a beach are stuck with lakes, and we got plenty of catfish and bass to catch, also gators aren't that common in lakes

They are here. We used to joke that if you fell in Lake Monroe, we'd notify your next of kin.
Lake Monroe is also kinda fun. There are a bunch of sandbars way out in the lake, so you can take pictures of people standing on the lake.
It connects to the St. John's River. Where if you go near the power plant in the winter there are tons of manatees to pet (and feed if you are careful-they don't have teeth, just two bony plates that can crush your fingers if you let them linger while feeding them lettuce).
We have tons of lakes, but all I can catch are gar. I have a special skill when it comes to catching those horrible fish.
