hi I’m Karl Kopinski an artist
many of you will know my work unfortunately 3 weeks ago I suffered a pretty major stroke affecting my left side

it’s left me unable to work for the time being

i am hoping to raise some funds to support my self and my beautiful family during my rehabilitation I've privately been fighting a battle with myeloma for the past 6 years treatment for which caused 2 more minor strokes and a heart attack i continued to work throughout all of this as my art has been my obsession and therapy through all these difficulties

unfortunately it’s proving a longer and more difficult process to reach my previous level
I write this with a heavy heart but any help anyone is willing to offer would mean so much to us all and would help with rehabilitation and recovery until I’m hopefully back to work

Already over 45 grand raised!

Maybe consider posting your favorite piece by Karl in this thread.

I’ll start with the cover art from the 4th edition Tau Codex and 3rd edition Necron codex. Two classic pieces.

Didnt know his name to be honest, but looking it up he did some iconic art for GW.
This probably one of my all time favourites.

Me being me, I’ve done a bit of digging and the stroke seems legit, as does this fundraiser.

Not nice being a naysayer I know, but someone’s got to do it. And I’ve made a donation.

Here’s hoping he makes a full recovery in due course.

I live in Nottingham and know Karl. It is completely legit and, to be honest, I’m not sure you really needed to have shared your needless doubts here in that manner. I don’t know what “digging” you might have done into someone else’s medical condition in any case.

Cursory google, confirming via his Insta.

After all, someone’s condition can be very real, but it doesn’t follow the Gofundme is.

Given the number of fake fundraisers that pop up on the internet it's legitimate to wonder if any one is as plenty of others will be wondering too

especially if you the do your best to verify it is legit and post you've done so (eg on a legit funding platform, social media accounts related/run by the subject have posted about it and/or the condition etc)

that way people who might not have donated because they weren't sure, but didn't know how to check (or just couldn't be bothered) may do so

It's a fair concern, I think it's more the way you went about announcing it tbh. Maybe a little tactless.
OT: I follow Karl on Insta but recently deactivated it so this is useful to know, I will go contribute.

I’ve worked in fraud stuff for a good few years now. Has lead to me being pretty blunt, but I accept I could’ve shown more tact.

Fair. I imagine it's easy to become cynical in that line of work.

the Mothership...

I'm saddened to hear this. His artwork was key for defining the feel of 40k for me during the period I was most actively playing (3rd-5th editions) and I'd easily put him in the top five 40k artists of all time along with Goodwin, Adrian Smith, and Stefan Kopinski (any relation to Karl?). Some examples in addition to the Tau codex cover already posted above and the WHFB ogre attack on a kislev caravan that I also love...

Thanks to everyone who posted so far.

I did my own checking to make sure this was legit before posting. The GoFundMe is closer to 60k now.

Performing Due Diligence isn't being a naysayer.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
