How do!
Not just an admittedly childish title, but a hopefully valid and popular point about, what is for me, the richest vein of 40K we’ve had in a long time. Necromunda.
Whilst its relaunch was arguably a wee bit faltering (gangs being PMCs, three or was it four attempts to codify each gang), it’s really blossomed into, range and style wise, something truly superior to its initial incarnations. Each gang has a smorgasbord of unique options, from weapons to heavies to Brutes and for some, even vehicles.
We’ve seen the setting expanded far beyond the confines of Hive Primus in a pretty pleasing manner.
And those Hirelings and Hangers On Models are the cherry on a very lovely cake.
Best of all? This is Necromunda, where modification and tinkering of the rules has been the order of the day going right back to Confrontation, a WD Published predecessor. It’s a rare campaign where everything is done By The Book, as I’m yet to meet a Games Master/Guilder not open to have a fiddle around based on player feedback and preference to carve out their own, unique little corner of the sheer hell that is the Underhive.
Could be an adjustment to stats or weapon costs. Could be a pretty in-depth Frankenstein’s Monster style mashup of the various incarnations of the rule sets. Could be pretty much anything.
The Community is also pretty permissive when it comes to which models you use to represent your Gang on the tabletop. Really like the Delaque rules, but aren’t keen on the models? There’s little to no harm in using any appropriately scaled models in their place. Because it’s the guns, and typically the nastier guns, that really need to be visually obvious and distinct to your opponent. Whilst, yes, there are limits (anyone running Ratling models as a combat geared Gang should be viewed as modelling for advantage, given their diminutive stature gives them a real advantage with terrain and other LoS stuff), I’ve never seen them be overly strict. To the point that really, there’s just the depth of your wallet stopping someone collecting lots of Hanger On models to populate your gang.
It’s just a big old pot of potential. And I bloody love it. It’s about as close to Rogue Trader’s creative anarchy as we can reasonably expect from modern GW.
