How do!
Wheeeeeeee! Here we go! New Doom game!
I’ve done the first level, clearing it at 86% of items and secrets found. Combat is really enjoyable, with a decent if blissfully basic melee system. Fun is curtailed for now, as the rest of the game is still downloading.
Anyone else rampaging through the hordes of hell? Automatically Appended Next Post: First few levels under me belt now, and I’m having a great time.
I am of course playing on Wuss Mode, but the combat is still engaging, even if it’s not exactly taxing.
Weapons are all fun, and have their niche points of excellence, with none so far feeling objectively stronger than the others.

Beat it on Nightmare a few days back. It's alright, but it's no touch on 2016 and so far below Eternal it's not even funny.

What's definitely noticeable is Mick Gordon not doing the soundtrack this time around after he got burned by Betheseda.

That goes without saying. I tried to go in objectively concerning the music, and it's perfectly fine grind metal on it's own. But like the rest of the game it's just fine. Nothing stand out or particularly interesting or memorable.
Also who keeps trying to shove plot into a DOOM game? All the plot you need is "here's a shotgun, there's demons. Get on with it".

Yeah, plot really is just window dressing for a DOOM game and I get it sort of needs to be there for context on what Doom guy is killing next, but I feel like the success of 2016 DOOM definitely gave some people the wrong idea of the "lore" being part of the reason why it did so well when it was really the tight gameplay loop. Add on feature creep that sequels always do and you've got Dark Ages.

Finished up my Nightmare run and enjoyed it over all but Eternal is still the best of the trilogy - which is funny because I disliked Eternal to start with until I figured out the combat loop. Really liked the addition of the shield in Dark Ages. A lot of the weapons seem largely redundant I mained the Super Shotgun and just used the Rocket Launcher for boss fights. The Ravager and Pulveriser look good but I never saw the point I only used them to get the weapon mastery challenges.
I might give Pandemonium a go - but not willing to put the work into Ultra Nightmare.
The music is notable by its lack of notability - I mean it's there but most of the time you don't notice it and I don't think I could say that about the other 2.
This will be first Doom game I've Platinumed - or it will be when they fix the Berserker trophy!
I'll put it away now and see what the DLC is like.

Shield is definitely fun and very cool to use. But I agree there’s not enough distinction between the ranged weapons.
Once you’ve got some upgrades under your belt, they all do approximately the same thing, more or less. And once I got the Rocket Launcher, I never bothered with the Grenade.
Ball and Chain gun I barely used. When everything else is rapid fire, why would I bother with something I need to charge up?
Still a very fun game to play though.
I must revisit Doom Eternal. I got to the penultimate mission and got distracted. So I’ll do it from the top, I think.

I did have DTDA and was meaning to get around to trying it any day now, honest... But seems some sneaky child has uninstalled it in favour of one of their games. Doh! May have to wait a while... Kind of tied up with Oblivion anyways.

Update 1 is out and it's fixed a few things but not the Beserker Glitch on PS5 :( the sound mix is a lot better but I'm now having an issue with my Pandemonium run - I finish a chapter try to progress to the next it kicks me to the main menu and when I go back in to the campaign the last chapter shows as 0% complete and has to be replayed again - Pandemonium is hard enough without that so I'm out until they fix it.

A pass on this one but it's really because my PC and XBox-One are now over a decade old. I will be upgrading my PC soon( Unreal is rather demanding ) and so there's no harm in a sale later down the road.
Doom 2016 still looks the bees-knees, and quite happy to give it another play through in the meantime.

Played two levels then took a break. Not bad, but yeah it hasn't hooked me like 2016 or Eternal did. Might be burnout or maybe the tone isn't quite right for me.
