Most of my creative energy goes towards making an indie game these days, but I have really missed Warhammer projects and have recently started a few.
My main goal is painting my 3rd Tyranid Army. With an initial 1000 pt list I'm making good progress -
Flyrant
10x Hormagaunt
10x Hormagaunt
Tyrannofex
Lictor
Norn Emissary

Wow - just wow, they look awesome, colour scheme is great (very different), how do you get it that good? And please tell me it takes you a long time, or I’m going to be immensely jealous!

The orange was taking a long time when I was working out the recipe, now its not so bad. Im a red to orange/yellow buildup, and after highlighting is done I resaturate the orange carapace with thin ink glazes, and I increase the amount of purple in the shadows as well.
Without that step the orange looks pale.

Hey thanks all. I will get better pictures once everyone is based and ready to rock. Also going to keep pushing the orange.
I build up a red/purple mixture and take care to shade at an angle, so you get a lot more purple red lower on the model and more of the dead white/flesh from higher up. It makes some parts look more dramatic.
Getting the values for all that correct all the time is a challenge and I should go back and do a balance pass eventually when I have fresh eyes. I will do that because I want to at least have a shot at paint awards at tournaments with them.

Love that grey and orange combo and your blends are expertly done. The pink fleshy bits and the blue brainy bits really help to break up the model. A really excellently executed scheme. Can't wait to see the force expand!

Thanks all, life has kept me from updating as much as Ive worked.
For mostly just love of the hobby, I challenged myself to an eBay rescue, something Ive been meaning to do for years. I read Fulgrim a few months ago and enjoy hating the Emperor's Children, so that was as good enough a reason to give them a go.
This was NOT a commission but I followed the same procedure I would for any project that large (this is around 1200ish points I think, so not too big).
I had 18 infantry & Fulgrim to build, and the two assembled Rhino's came with Chaos symbols Id need to remove.
We inspected everything and mostly it was just some dremel tool work and cleanup on the Rhinos. Not bad.
Assembly took a day or so. I kept Fulgrim like so, he's got a lot of tough angles to reach.

I was about 3 hours into base coating when I realized I would have saved a profound amount of time and gotten perhaps a cooler purple had I just primed everything silver first, and then gone back to do the gold/brass/purple/black. There are a LOT of details on these new infantry models.
That process went on and on, and I slowly got all the details filled in. Decals then dirt/blood.
I got them into a satisfactory spot and based them. That afternoon the Emigrant fire broke out west of us and turned the skies red.
Same sort of procedure next on Fulgrim and the Rhinos. This went much faster because I already had the armor/flesh recipes figured out by then.
Here they are before shading. This week I will hopefully get them finished and photographed accurately.
