The goal: to paint up my Old World Bretonnian starter box. For starters.

Between 2016-2019 I had a pretty productive period of painting stuff, mostly Maelstrom's Edge and accompanying terrain. Proof is in my thread here.

Then life happened, as it does. Multiple kids and house moves later, not much hobbying has happened since. The return of Warhammer Fantasy triggered a new desire to get back to it and got me to at least buy and build some stuff. Still no painting, though. Now there's also Maelstrom's Edge V2 with a new faction that I really like, doubling my motivation to get back to painting (disclosure: I am in the Spiral Arm Studios Team doing little odds and ends for Maelstrom's Edge now and then, and pitching in with small contributions to the game and setting's development).

So, this log is intended to serve as a kind of commitment to get things done on the Old World front. I am (still) not the most talented painter in the world and still need to work with the time and energy I have, so expect no masterpieces here. I want to paint an army that looks nice, even if the individual models aren't so special.

I have started to work out a colour scheme for my Bretonnians. I subscribe to the new lore 'allowing' us to paint all knights the same colours, so this scheme will have to do for the whole force. I found a green/bone scheme I like on the Mediocre Hobbies Youtube channel (thanks!), even though Andy himself hated the bone and ended up repainting it yellow. And, yes, I know, painting Bretonnian knights green is heresy. All the better.

Enough blabla! Here is my Knight Errant Testing Dude. I'm still pondering changes/improvements, but I think I'll go with this pretty much as is, hopefully improving the neatness of my freehand as I go along. Or, change my mind entirely

Off to a great start. Freehand on the shield looks nice.

Great start with that green, works really well on the barding

I really like that scheme, sir. Solid freehand effort too- I didn't even register it was freehand at first glance. An army of Bretonnians in a unified scheme will look awesome, lore be darned either way

Thanks a lot guys!
In the meanwhile, I've slightly tweaked the colour scheme. Going for a green that's a little more green rather than brown and a yellow that's a little more towards orange. Also settled on a more convenient way to paint the white/bone. Subtle changes, but I'm going with that for the rest of the unit. And then, some peasants

The new guy.

The two Testing Knights together. I figure the differences are subtle enough not to have to repaint parts of the first guy.

Looking on to see what all the fuss is about, Farmer Maggot with his hounds. The cause of some Old World delay, as I'm simultaneously trying to get into playing the Quest of the Ringbearer campaign.
