I've always assumed that meant "take it with a grain of salt", but I've just seen someone use it as "I'm salty".

Perhaps there isn't a right or wrong answer, but I'm just curious what's the convention.

I thought it meant, "adding salt to the wound."

From memory it started out as a "add salt as required" or "I wish this were true, but I'm taking it with a grain of salt" emote used to react to incoming Games Workshop rumours.

I think both work just fine. Most people would be able to correctly interpret the intent from the context of the post.
