I've collected Votann since the first April Fool's Day trailer came out (a few old squats anyway), yet the army hasn't seen the tabletop yet, and I'd like that to change.
I like the general "feel" of the Votaan, but I can't quite like the "moon buggy" look of their vehicles with the exception of the Kapricus. So I decided to model my Votaan a bit differently.
My personal background for them are that they are a dirt-poor refugee fleet that lost their homeworld and Votaan core long ago. They make a living doing grunt-work for other Votaan and Imperial worlds (passing themselves off as sanctioned abhumans). The bulk of their equipment is outmoded Votaan tech and Imperial equipment modified to their standards.
Doing the conversion work on the infantry was pretty obvious. Almost all the bolters are now swapped for Imperial bolters (mk4 marine bolters). Mantic games ForgeFather tanks as Saguitars. However I've been stumped by how to make a Hekaton. A stock GW model would look out of place.
What would you guys think if I used a heavily modified Rogal Dorn as a Hekaton? No sponsons, stretch the rear out a bit to make a transport area, and replace the turret with something unmanned, taller, and significantly more Squat in origin. The Hekaton and Dorn have a shockingly similar profile and size. Call it a battlefield loot.
