So, I was looking at the Bastion Task Force. And I saw Eye Of The Primarch-granting a whole Battleline squad Precision on their Ranged attacks, plus the Enhancement bearer themself.

I'm just wondering... What Leader Character could survive a full salvo?
Assuming you've got a 10-man Intercessor Squad with two Grenade Launchers led by a Lieutenant with MC Bolter and the Eye Of The Primarch. Just running numbers...

40 Bolt Rifle shots
40/6 or 20/3 Lethal Hits at AP-1 D1

2 Krak shots
2/6 or 1/3 Lethal Hits at AP-2 Dd3

2 MC Bolt shots
2/6 or 1/3 Lethal Hits at AP-1 D2

With nothing but Lethals, you're looking at around 3 damage to even a 2+ Save model. If said model is T5 to T7...

20 Bolt Rifle hits
20/3 wounds plus 20/3 Lethals for 40/3 wounds
40/9 failed saves
4.5 average damage

1 Krak hit
2/3 wounds plus 1/3 Lethals for 1 wound
1/2 failed saves
1 average damage

4/3 MC Bolt hits
4/9 wounds plus 3/9 Lethals for 7/9 wounds
7/27 failed saves
14/27 or about .5 average damage

6 damage against a TEQ character. So it's certainly not IMPOSSIBLE to survive it, but on average I can't think of any character off-hand that can.

I mean... Ghaz?

(Yes, he is a Leader for some reason, despite being the size of a Dreadnought with a statline to match)

I forgot he’s a Leader.
Fair point, well made.

It seems to me that such an enhancement may as well be a giant "SHOOT ME!" sign.

Precision always comes with a huge opportunity cost. Many precision units across codices have the ability to neutralize characters fairly reliably and to some armies this is devastating.

However, other armies either don't rely on their characters that much, have them in transports or are fielding monsters.

Between agents and their own snipers, marines aren't lacking for precision options, but it's usually not worth bringing them unless the unit would be great without precision, which isn't really the case for a marine battleline unit lead by a character.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Yeah. There have been a number of options in 10th that can pretty reliably kill characters if they're allowed to line up their shots unimpeded. Even something like Illic Nightspear with a 10 man squad of rangers were surprisingly reliable at killing most characters; especially back in the index days. It just usually isn't a huge problem because most such squads tend to be an investment for what you get and/or can be countered by just hiding characters or whittling down the precision unit.

It's similar to how plenty of anti-tank squads can reliably wipe out a tank. You can usually counter them by hiding their preferred targets and trying to neutralize the anti-tank unit before exposing your tank.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Land of Confusion

I saw that enhancement in a full Heavy Intercessor Squad the other day.

I'm terrible with names of Dark Angels, but it cleaned out the named Deathwing Character out of a brick of Deathwing Terminators that were parked on the center objective.
