This is my first attempt at a competitive list with the guard, using the models I have.  Please comment on organization and weapon placement, and overall effectiveness.  This list is meant to be 1850, not 1859, sorry. Thanks alot!

Doctrines: Close Order Drill(COD). Iron Disicple(ID), Drop Troops.(so far)

Command Platoon

Command squad: JO w/ H.I, I.D, power weapon. 4 guardsmen. 2 plasma, 1 standard. 1 ccw+ l.p.( should this be a medic?)

Anti tank squad: Lascannons

Fire Support: Autocannons

Sentinel: 1 sent w/ multilaser/

Total: 356

troops:

1st platoon command: J.O w/ bolter and ID. 4 guardsmen w/ grenade launchers

3 squads w/ misslie launcher and grenade launcher.

Total: 326

2nd platoon: command: j.o w/ power weapon and ID guardsmen w/ 4 flamers

3 squads w/ missile launchers and grenade lauchers.

Total: 323

Armored Fist squad: melta gun. Chimera w/ hull h.b, multilaser, and pintle heavy stubber.

Total: 167

FAST ATTACK:

Sentinel: multilaser 45

Sentinel: multilaser 45

Hellhound w/ hull h.b and heavy stubber: 127

HEAVY SUPPORT:

Leman Russ w/ hull hb. and sponson h.b

Total: 310

That gives me 1699 points.  150 under.  My painted options include: 2 commisars... My unpainted options include a special weapon team with 2 flamers and a demo charge, and a unit of 5 rough riders as well as shot vets.... I don't think unpainted models are allowed, so I'm thinking that I'll be bringing the commissars.  What changes can be made within the list to make it more competitive? Thanks.

break up the lascannons up into the squads at least. they'll be harder to remove.

and the 3 ML AT squad will be slightly less of a target than the 3 lascannons, slightly.

i'd suggest getting a couple of lascannons in the future.

i'd also suggest putting the 2 plasmagunners in the line sqds and

not in the CHQ. or put 2 GL in the CHQ to replace them.

Grenade Launchers and Missile Launchers are junk.

Autocannons are better at killing AV12 and below and hit more often. Lascannons are superior at killing AV13 and 14 and hit just as often.

Grenade Launchers are over-priced junk. 2 more points gets you a Plasma Gun, which is better than an S6 AP4 shot. 2 points less gets you a Flamer, which is better than the S3 AP6 Blast of a Grenade Launcher.

Power Weapons are a waste of time. You'll never swing.

A JO with an Honorifica does the same thing as an HSO, but saves you 5 points.

Don't put guns in your CHQ. They're not shooting, they're hiding and providing Leadership.
