I play necrons and most of the games I play are against tau or the chaos space marines. Most of those games are ties or I losing by a small margin. My main problem playing agianst tau are those blasted fire warriors! The battlesuits are an issue too. I need an efficiant way to tear up fire warrior squads. Destroyers using their strength 6 weapons to instantly kill them possibly?

My other problem is when playing chaos, the player usually has a defiler tearing thru my warrior squads and korne bezerkers also charging( and tearing up) my warrior squads. Any suggestions?

the spire of angels

uh...one or more resurrection orbs and monoliths -always get back up on 4+ and get to retry it if you fail....seems to work well with most necron armies.

of course i have no idea what your phase out is or what your amry is made of......but i do love those destroyers

You've got a res orb (preferrably 2), right? And a monolith, right?

I usually feel guilty when I play Tau with Necrons. Immortals or Destroyers will easily wipe out a full squad of fire warriors every turn, and although it is difficult to line up a shot on those jump-shoot-jump units, they usually cant do enough damage without the massed fire of the firewarriors to be anything more than an overcosted annoyance. I personally like to run heavy destroyers up each flank so that I can get a bead on the crisis suits and one-shot them.

Chaos is hard to give advice on just because of how varied they can be. Khorne and Iron warriors are completely different armies, so you might need to be more specific if you need help.

P.S. Fire warriors only have one wound, instant killing them with Str 6 makes no difference. Maybe you should look into the difference between instant kill and AP values.

For the Defiler, a Veil of Darkness is just the thing you need, if it's hiding behind terrain and firing indirectly. If not, gauss it to death (heavy destroyers would be my choice, as well as a Monolith's "main gun").

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

Necrons are usually considered to be a nightmare for Tau due to the kind of reasons mentioned above.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I play tau, and every time I get matched up against necrons I'm fighting an uphill battle. Tau dont have enough ap2 or 3 weapons to keep a significant number of necrons dead, while necrons have many 24"+ range guns with ap4 and S5+. Further, I play mech tau so every thing in a necron army is a legit threat to everything in my army. What point value are you playing at.

Against tau, you should have a generally easy fight. Against chaos, all you need is res orbs and monoliths.

I have rarely failed to totally wipe the board with Tau when i am using my Necron.

Two units of 10 immortals does wonders. Especially when one is hitching a ride on the VoD.

Destroyers are nice too for their spped and longer range.

Don't overlook Scarab swarms. With three attacks and three wounds a peice, the will kill almost any tau unit it touches. Since they move like jetbikes, they will get there fast and be the one charging.

Whether necrons pose a threat to tau depends on how you play the tau. I use a lot of plasma guns (shas'o, two three man crisis teams), just a handfull of fire warriors (two full teams w/ no upgrades), pathfinders to boost efectivnes of any weapon I might need, three hammerheads (2 railgun - to keep them dead when they die, 1 ion cannon). Have beaten Necrons every time.

Against Chaos you should stay mobile. Keeping the monolith between your units and the opponents is key. When I beat up Necrons its usually because of my opponents lack of mobility. I run in or infiltrate, daemons come, he freaks out and forgets to teleport them out. Sweeping advance the necrons and continue to the next squad. They shoot, they can get back up and they are incredibly mobile. Use these to your advantage. If you are taking casualties from shooting; you had bad rolls. If you are taking casualties from melee; you are not teleporting smart / fast enough.

Scarabs are awesome. They pop transports and even if they dont, they can cover up the doors so when the transport does pop, the scarabs kill em all. Destroyers are also awesome as are heavy destroyers. Monoliths are very useful and are arguably the best vehicle in the game. They have great rules and can be hard to kill. Great psych-out capability and will be part of what helps keep your troops alive by moving them away from chain axes and power fists.
