Craftworld Luna'qual

Ember022

This is an Eldar craftworld of my own creation. The Eldar themselves and all aspects of the Warhammer 40k universe belong to Games Workshop. I am posting this here because I would like to get feedback about how "correct" they are with the fiction. Please tell me if you see something wrong or simply don't like something about them. Positive comments are greatly enjoyed as well!

Craftworld Luna'qual, The Faithful Seekers

Craftworld Luna'qual can trace it's founding to a time well before the taint of the Fall began to grip the Eldar home worlds were it was a trading vessel that often plotted courses that took them very far from their worlds, considered far even by other Craftworlds, and while other Craftworlds would return three or four times every thousand years Luna'qual would often only return once during that time and never stayed long when they did return. The Craftworld then was not nearly the size of what it is now only containing a few thousand Eldar but it is unknown why these Eldar chose to stay away from their worlds for such long periods; some modern Luna'qual Eldar would say that it was the gods own will that kept them far from their cousins so that they would remain pure and devout but there have been whispers of much darker theories.

Over the long journeys the Eldar of Craftworld Luna'qual, for yet another unknown and highly debated reason, became heavily religious especially toward Isha the Mother of the Eldar despite the fact that the gods had almost completely cut themselves off from the Eldar and even held massive ceremonies of prayer rivaling the modern ceremonies of the Imperium of Man in terms of dedication. When the Fall of the Eldar happened Luna'qual had been on a voyage for close to a thousand years the current generation of Eldar simply seeing no reason to return to the Eldar worlds, the Craftworld was their home, but when Slaanesh was born even they felt the tremor. The Craftworld immediately set a course for home but even with their technology they were such a far distance away that it would take close to a hundred years to return.

Having no idea what had caused the psychic shock wave and never seeing the majority of the Eldar's decent into darkness if the craftworld had been left to its own devices it would have surely walked straight into the Eye of Terror and been trapped there forever but they were saved from this awful fate by their cousins the Eldar of Craftworld Ulthwe. The powerful Seers of Ulthwe having foretold of Luna'qual's return and immediately sent representatives to tell them of the dreadful events that had befallen their race. Although the loss of their worlds was a great shock to the Eldar of Luna'qual it did not hold the personal meaning to them that the other Eldar had. It was what had befell the gods during the birth of Slaanesh that traumatized them the most believing that all the gods had been killed they joined in the massive choking depression that gripped the entire Eldar race at the time, thinking that they were doomed to absolute extinction.

It was then that Khaine was shattered and his Avatars sent to the Wraithbone hearts of all the surviving Craftworlds. The Eldar of Luna'qual rejoiced at their Avatars arrival for despite being shattered Khaine was alive and had rejoined them in the mortal realm. For the next thousands of years Craftworld Luna'qual followed the general lead of the much larger Craftworlds the Craftworld itself taking up a physical position to the northeast of the Eye of Terror and having no direct threat to themselves often assisted other Craftworlds, specifically Ulthwe, in their struggles. They took to the Paths just as all Eldar did and they learned the Aspects of Khaine with a passion that was considered a dark thing by most others besides Biel-tan but while Biel-tan took to this practice so that they could conquer and the other Craftworlds took to it so that they may defend themselves Luna'qual practiced the Aspects so that they may truly worship and be of use to their god and savior Kaela Mensha Khaine. Considering themselves to owe Ulthwe their lives they maintained a very close relationship with them even going as far as creating a new tradition of sending their Seers to Ulthwe to be trained instead of training them themselves as a sign of respect.

As the Craftworlds began to settle into the positions that they would have all the way to modern dates Craftworld Luna'qual began to develop the abnormalities that it is known for today. Seeming to appear over night a strange idea began to settle into the minds of the Eldar; the idea that if worshiped and remembered as they were the Gods could be reborn once again. This was merely an idea however and it was only discussed with extreme caution behind close doors but as this whispered idea worked its way around the Craftworld the Prophecy of Ynnead was given. It was the straw that broke the camels back for shortly after the Eldar of Craftworld Luna'qual isolated themselves inside their Wraithbone home. Many of the other Craftworlds believed that something had befell and destroyed Luna'qual with only Ulthwe knowing otherwise as Luna'qual's seers still came to them for training but when asked about their home they would dismiss it and if questioned further they would respond with silence or outright refusal. All attempts to board the craftworld were refused and there were even reports of threatened violence if vessels tried to land anyways.

Thousands of years later Luna'qual traders, soldiers, and representatives suddenly appeared throughout the galaxy and the ports of the Craftworld were once again open to all comers. Other Eldar were shocked to find what they did when they arrived on the Craftworld: it had grown in size by a factor of almost 3x, the Eldar living there prayed to the gods long known dead, works of the forge were dedicated to Vaul upon there creation, but the most stunning of these changes could not be seen at first.

The first of these changes is that although the size of the Craftworld had increased the population had remained at almost the same number. This was because of a strange new law imposed on the young Eldar stating that all Eldar must tread the Path of the Warrior and become an Aspect of Khaine before they could walk upon any other Path and even after leaving the Path of the Warrior they must always maintain their connection with Khaine. During times of war their would be no Guardians for every Eldar of Luna'qual is an Aspect Warrior of Khaine.

The second is that there is an active and "permanent" populace of Harlequins living at the Craftworld even having their own dome. You could not fully call this population permanent because the Harlequins were always continuing their circus into other places but the amount of them stayed generally the same for every time a troupe left another would arrive shortly after. It is clear that Craftworld Luna'qual has a close connection with the Harlequins of Cegorach seeing as how Harlequins will always accompany their war parties even when they are not facing Chaos and the Eldar pray to Cegorach with the Harlequins acting as a sort of priest during ceremonies but it is unknown why or how this connection was formed.

The third strange thing about Craftworld Luna'qual beyond the fact that they believe they can bring back long-dead gods through worship was that the Path of Grief was almost nonexistent. The Eldar only feeling sorrow for the loss of a friend if their soul stone was not recovered for they whole-heartily believe that when put into the Infinity Circuit Eldar souls are joined with Ynnead and will be reborn with the god at Rhana Dandra just as all of the gods will.

Then there was the Avatar... the Avatar of Khaine on other Craftworlds remained completely dormant and sealed off until called upon for war when it would then be awoken with the sacrifice of the Young King but on Luna'qual the Avatar always seemed to be awake. The Avatar cannot move from his Iron Throne, of course, without the proper sacrifice but the psychic presence of the Avatar always seemed to be there and intensified when it was Khaine's turn in the Hall of Worship.

Despite the fact that they believe through prayer and dedication the Gods can be re-born they do not try to force other Eldar to pray as they do. They think that because of their efforts the other Eldar simply remembering the Gods as they do now will be enough even if it does not grant the favor that they will receive when the gods are reborn.

The other Craftworlds regarded this new Luna'qual with suspicion and mistrust at first thinking they had gone mad or were under the influence of Chaos but with time they realized this was not true and welcomed their cousins back into the fold glad to once again glad to have Luna'qualian guns and blades with them in the never ending war that is their reality, Most other Eldar regard those from Luna'qual as relics of a lost age or as beings who desperately cling to the old ways but few will turn down there aid when it is offered.

Notable Eldar

Qwin'tour'il Ilinova - Qwin was an Autarch of Luna'qual when the rumor of a Farseer from another Craftworld seeing the Goddess Isha still alive but caged in the Chaos God Nurgle's domain reached his ears. Not daring to dismiss this as simple rumor he dedicated a very large part of his life in pursuit of knowledge relating to this until while working with Luna'qual's Farseers he was able to pinpoint the location of a Greater Daemon of Nurgle who could know if their Goddess was in it's masters clutches. With this knowledge all of Craftworld Luna'qual was mobilized and the Avatar was released from his throne; their destination was a Daemon World in the Eye of Terror itself. An incredibly large amount of Harlequins accompanied them on this march, more than Qwin had ever dreamed would answer his call, and some even say that Cegorach himself partook in this battle disguised as a simple Trouper. The resulting battle was one of epic proportions with nearly half of the entire population of the Craftworld losing their lives but with the help of the Harlequin Shadowseers the Farseers of Luna'qual were able to trap the Greater Daemon inside it's own greatest fear until it answered their questions about Isha. Learning from the Daemon that Isha is indeed being held captive by Nurgle they trapped the Daemon inside a large crystal and gave it to the Harlequins to do with it as they pleased. Although they returned to the Craftworld sustaining extremely heavy losses most, if not all, of the Spirit Stones had been recovered and the Craftworld rejoiced that their Mother was still alive.

Eliana Wilishian - Exarch of the Eternal Leap Warp Spider Shrine who's efforts secured hundreds of Spirit Stones from the Crone Worlds until she was lost in the Warp.

Alendex De'verhigh - Farseer who's prediction of the corruption of a human hive world resulted in the Purging of Fenlor XI.

Table-top Rules

To make playing as the Luna'qual a unique experience and the background information more than just made up lore I put restrictions and demands on the table-top army,

- Must ALWAYS take the Avatar of Khaine as your HQ choice when the option is available. - Cannot deploy Guardians. - All Aspect Warrior squads MUST have an Exarch. - Cannot use any kind of Wraith (Wraithguard or Wraithlord) - No special rules for bringing Harlequins but it fits the lore if they are there so try to have a troupe.

Painting

-The color scheme for Luna'qual is green and orange but all Aspect Warriors will remain their aspect colors. - Farseers should have their helmets painted black as a testament to their training at Ulthwe

Please tell me what you think about my Craftworld!
