Proposed Unit: Slicing Orbs Aspect Warriors (40K)

Intro

Once only present on Zandros, the slicing orbs have spread to other craftworlds. This was likely due to their action in a large multiple craftworld campaign against an ork force. The disruption raids by the slicing orbs allowed the rest of the eldar force to avoid ork retaliation while striking the greenskins with impunity. The aspects impressive actions and the increase interaction between craftworlds has lead to slicing orb aspect shires appearing on other craftworlds as the intergalactic eldar community embraced them into their military repertoire.

The slicing orbs represent the aspect of warfare centering on disrupting the enemy’s plan, they are the havoc of war manifested. They undermine all cohesion enjoyed by their opponents by inflicting cavalry raid style attacks upon the their flanks and rear. A unit of slicing orbs is able to sow disruption upon an entire of platoon. Mounted on flightboards and equipped with their signature armament, the silver spheres that orbit them, the slicing orbs specialize on distracting and disorganizing the enemy while the rest of the eldar army takes advantage of the confusion they generate.

Unit: 3-10

Equipment: flight board with built in twin link shuriken catapults, orbs, two Striking gantlets

Options: One model may be upgraded to an Exarch for 12 points. The exarch may upgrade one of his striking gantlets to a power weapon for 15 points. The model may purchase shredding globes for 15 points. Energizing globes may be purchased for 10 points, the deepstrike ability may be purchased for 15 points and the skilled riders rule may be purchased for 15 points.

Orbs: Silver spheres fly around the aspect warriors and their flightboards altering coarse to intercept opponents spouting and retracting blades that are able to sever a limb from an attacker. These orbs appear to possess rudimentary intelligence and seek out the enemy targets that are in proximity to them independently or by obeying the commands of their owner. When attacking the slicing orbs in combat any rolls of a 1 to hit causes a strength 4 AP 5 hit against the attacker. The spheres also grant the slicing orbs both defensive and offensive grenades as the warriors are able to send their orbs to flush out opponents from cover or intercept a charging unit.

Flight boards: The slicing orbs ride upon one-man anti-gravity devices. These vehicles cause the slicing orbs to be jump infantry. The flightboards house twin linked shuriken catapults that the aspect warrior can fire through mental control.

Striking Gantlets: These are energized claws that allow the aspect warriors to manipulate their orbiting spheres. They also allow the warriors to tear through the armor and flesh of their opponents. The gantlets cause the slicing orbs’ attacks in close combat to count as rendering.

Disruption: If the warriors successfully attempt a hit and run maneuver the unit(s) they where engaged with must take a pinning test as the orbs remain behind whirling through their ranks before returning to the aspect warriors. In addition to blades, the orbs are known to employ a plethora of tormenting ploys against their target, sonic discharges, flashes of multicolored lights, even hologram protection are commonly used methods of disrupting an enemy.

Shredding Globe: Hidden with the flock of orbs that are in rotation around the exarch are these specialized devices. Indistinguishable from the other orbs these devices employ a sinister ballistic attack. The exarch throws or directs one of these orbs into the ranks of the enemy where it spews out and retracts a monofilament web in the space of a heartbeat. The wire is able to reduce bodies to segmented chunks in an instant and then return backs to its normal orbit around the exarch.

Range 12 Strength 6 AP – assault 1 3 inch blast rendering pinning

Energizing Matrix: The exarch triggers a device that momentary charges the orbs with blazing energy. For a single combat phase the orbs have their AP lowered from 5 to 3. One use only

Model idea

Dire avengers bodies on a customized hellion flight board. Helmet reminiscent of a howling banshee and clawed gantlets. Orbs would be little rolled balls of green stuff, thin wire may be used to have them orbit the model. I might try to convert one in the future if I do I will post an image.
