Why I Started This Army
I had originally started out playing Chaos Space Marines. I eventually wanted to start up a new army with the release of 5th edition. It helped that my buddy at school that had originally gotten me into Warhammer 40,000 played Orks, so I naturally looked at it as an opening that took less money then other armies. I basically already had the vehicles as I had not put spikes on them so they where nice and clean to use with Space Marines. So I picked up the Black Reach set and started from there. It also does not hurt that I had an older metal version of the Standard Bearer as I had purchased two of them back when I was working on a custom Icon Bearer for my chaos list that came out really nicely. The one thing that I had to figure out was my color scheme, I did not want to do Ultramarines but I did not want to just make a color scheme that would look bad. So I went back to the conversion that I had made and started to look at how I had colored him. The scheme that I had done with that fallen soldier was very simple and clean. So I used it for my baseline with a few modifications. When I got to the banners and fabric portions I looked into my paint supplies to find something that would pop. I came across an older paint that I had that was more glossy then the citadel line for the pop I wanted. After I got the colors taken care of I started looking thew the bits boxes at the store that I game at, What I found really surprised me, 5 pairs of unused biker legs. Now who in their right minds would let go of legs in general. So I snatched them up and scratch built a squad out of them using green stuff to get them to stand on their bases. (Tact Squad III) I then picked up a 10 man tactical box so that I had a second full squad and have slowly added on from there.
Possibly my favorite two models are my Customs:
First: My Custom Cyper the Fallen Angel. I scratch built this model using bits that I had pulled out of the bits box.
Second: Battle Brother SGT. Hodge. Named after a good friend who had just made the E-5 list as I was getting out of the Army. He was custom built using parts that I had found.
Head: Bionics head from Tact Squad box
Chest, back armor, Backpack, Right arm, & legs from Tact Squad box
Left arm: Catachan arm that I had found somewhere.
Shoulder pad: Pewter shoulder pad that I think came from the three bike chaos biker box.
