Stalker Pattern Boltgun Tutorial

!DISCLAIMER: This tutorial was created by me several years ago and posted on the Miniwargaming forums. I did not steal this content from that website and I own full copyright of all the photos posted in this article( except the first one depicting Captain Titus). Since the community on Miniwargaming has changed drastically, I figure this article will prove more useful and reach more people here on the Dakka forums. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello there and welcome to this quick tutorial!

If you are like me and you want your Space Marine army to stand out from the rest, you might consider changing things up a little from the standard weapon options in the box sets. One weapon I have always found to be extremely cool-looking was the Stalker Pattern Boltgun. Normally only used by a select few individuals like Sgt. Telion of the Ultramarines or Captain Titus in the video game 'Space Marine', this long range boltgun is a valuable addition to any squad with a skilled marksman. Considering all Space marines have super-human eyesight and extensive training, it only makes sense to equip some more of them with these awesome marksman rifles. While you can unfortunately not get your hands on a set of official stalker bolters unless you buy a HH recon squad from Forge World or a Deathwatch Kill team, I'll show you a way to create your own from bits you probably weren't gonna use anyways! ;)

First off, let's take a look at the materials needed:

Of course, the parts used here are just examples, and I bet you can easily find replacements for them that look similar enough.

The first step is to prepare our boltgun for the conversion by removing it's clip, barrel and the iron sights on top. Be very careful not to damage the gun when cutting off parts, or you might have to start over!

Next, we will need to cut off the clip from this scout's bolt pistol:

Now, we carefully take off the scope from the captain's plasma pistol:

To get a replacement for the barrel of our boltgun, we cut off the butt of this power axe handle.

Finally, we trim down this lascannon targeter to get what will become the suppressor:

Now it's time to assemble all the parts. This is the most important step, so take your time and double check everything. Make sure all surfaces are flat and clean before you glue anything down. Try every piece on first without glue and make sure they all line up properly and sit flush. The finished boltgun has to be perfectly straight. After all, there's no room for a wonky sniper rifle on the battlefields of the 41st millenium! :D

Now all you need to do is equip your most skilled marksman with this fearsome weapon and watch him wreak havoc on the table! ;)

Here's a few of the Stalkers I've made so far:

I hope you found this tutorial helpful. If you actually do decide to follow the steps listed here and create your own Stalker pattern boltguns, I'd love to see the results! Feel free to post images of your work here and also let me know what you think about this article! Thanks for checking this out! Catch ya later! :)
