Warmachine Deviation Table

Sometimes it's more important to simply hit than it is to hit directly. The following article is information taken from the Warmachine and Hordes resource forum posted by the Grinning Wolf[1]

How it works

Any ranged or spell attack with an area of effect (AOE) directly hits a model if the attack roll matches their defense. However, they cause blast damage to any model under the template since those models are hit (though not directly hit).

In some cases, a spell or ranged attack has an additional effect for models that are simply hit by a ranged AOE spell or attack.

Secondly, the maximum deviation is half the range between the targeter and her target. So by controlling the range, you can control whether or not your AOE is guaranteed a hit against a target.

Maximum Deviation and Still Hit Chart for WARMACHINE

Base sizes in inches are:

  • 30mm=1.18", radius=.59"
  • 40mm=1.57", radius=.79"
  • 50mm=1.97", radius=.98"

The deviation distances at which the template and the original target are in "base to base" are:

Small Base

  • AOE 3 hits small base on deviation of: 0~2.09"
  • AOE 4 = 0~2.59"
  • AOE 5 = 0~3.09"

Medium Base

  • AOE 3 = 0~2.29"
  • AOE 4 = 0~2.79"
  • AOE 5 = 0~3.29"

Large Base

  • AOE 3 = 0~2.48"
  • AOE 4 = 0~2.98"
  • AOE 5 = 0~3.48"
