Warriors of Ultramar - an Ultramarines army


So this is my first army, this is also my first post and first day on dakkadakka! So don't be to rough about the paint job.

Army List

I have thought about, and planned out my army for a long time. Its a basic core and then has specialty units i add on if points allow. Usually it happens in this order, or course some situations require diferent lists. Starting at 500poins, 2 tac squads 1 commander

Then i add up:

2 Rhinos (for tac squads) Command Squad 1 Razorback (for Command squad)

That puts me up around 750, after that I'm free to choose lots of options. Usally I go:

1 Dev squad (since my army is lacking anti tank) 1 Scout squad (easy on points also takes teleport homer) 1 term squad (to deepstrike to scouts and causes problems in enemy deploy)

After all that my final: 1 Dev squad

My assult marines and dreadnought are really just point fillers. I like the dreadnought ONLY for small games where they don't get popped the first turn. Also i think walkers are very useful and add color to a city fight army. Being able to move with a tac squad and continue to fire with a heavy weapon is pretty good, also between buildings your only hit on front armor ( which is now better in 5th ed).

If i have two of any squad they each have a separate roll. As you can tell by these two tac squads one is for low army swarm units and the other can hunt any elites, even terminators.

Tac squad two 90 full squad +80 Plasma Pistol +15 Plasma Gun +10 Plasma Cannon +5 Total 200

I Also have two heavy weapon squads that follow the same idea. One is two lascannons and 2 missile launchers, the other is two heavy bolter 2 missile launchers. Two lascannon shots and two krak missiles has a pretty damn good shot at killing enemy vehicles, taking down fexs, night bringer, obliterator and getting instant death on characters such as Necron lord and Marine Captins. I really feel six str 6 shots and 2 (frag) blast templates really helps thin out low armored units.

Why I Started This Army

The reason my first army was ultramarines (my other two armies being tyranids and necrons) is because more then 10 years ago i was just a little kid and saw all these awesome miniatures and the ones i liked most when i was about 10 were the ultramarines.
