So I opened my new game trade today and what should be in it but 18 new GW paint colors! Adeptus battlegrey, astronomicon grey, calthan brown, charadon granite, dheneb stone, fenris grey, gretchin green, hormagaunt purple, iyanden darksun, khemri brown, knarloc green, macharius solar orange, mechrite red, mordian blue, necron abyss, orkhide shade, tallarn flesh, tausept ochre, and a paint foundation set. all scheduled to ship in April. Harlequin stuff to ship the same month. I will be curious to see these new colors, hopefully they cover a bit better than the old military style colors they came out with last go around. Also plastic black orcs in May with a re-release of Grimgor.

Fenris grey? Maybe that means we get a Space Wolves grey that isn't blue Looking at that list though, at least for the ones that make any sense (what the heck kind of colour is 'Necron Abyss'??? Dark green? Charcoal? Lilac? (Ah, the horror!!!)) ... I'm actually wondering if these are just renames on old colours...

( go read some HP Lovecraft if you missed that one kiddies) I have not a clue as to most of these colors, I can only assume they will fill in the blends between different colors already in the range, but some new shade wouldn't be bad either. The real question is when will vallejo get their mirror game colors out?

Could these be the long rumoured super-high-pigment-extra-great-covering-for-use-over-a-black-undercoat colours?

You mean there going to be no more double coating your minis when you use black primer....
I still like reapers paints one coat with a black primer covers nicely( especailly there pure white)

Yeah, I've heard rumours for a long time that they were going to release a special set of paints designed to give extra strong coverage for use over black undercoats, both here and other sites, as well as from a redshirt at the Warhammer World store in GW's Global HQ when I mentioned I play Imperial Fists, and that even over a white undercoat the yellow coats badly.

Yes, these are suppose to be the new "Foundation" colors. They are suppose to be good base coats over black and are a darker shade for a good base. They compliment the other colors.

Hopefully these will be good. But will it be too late?
Lots of other companies have filled the void adequetly if not leagues above expectations regarding what GW lacked in the past.

Toreador is right, these are the new high-pigment count "Foundation" colors. But as Hellfury and Dicemonkey mention, it is proabably too late for most. I know it is for me and many of the other people I know who all have long, long switched to Vallejo (both Model and Game colors), or other brands. This provides nothing that our existing paints & mediums don't already provide for the same cost or less while providing wider ranges of color, more paint/pot, better packaging (ie: paint pots that don't dry out in a week or splatter all over the place when opening/closing them) as well as being of equal or better quality.

I assume all these paints come with a standard 10-20% price rise across the entire range of paints? And whilst Iyanden Darksun sounds cool, it doesn't tell us what colour it is. BYE

I went Vallejo a year back, and the only paint tempting me now are the Reaper Pro paints, and that's only because they've gotten good reviews and a local store stocks them. GW's lid-flippin, paint-sprayin', bottle-dryin' stink paint can stay in their warehouses.

Vallejo is slowly losing me. From the chunky pigments to the squeeze tips flying off when least expected, they still are sub par. I have quite a few of the lighter colors that are chalky and worthless now. I do like the reaper, no pigment problems as of yet, though I do have problems with the shaker bit getting stuck in the nozzle when I squeeze it and nothing coming out. Rakham's stuff is,... well... interesting. I am not sure how I like them. I have to thin them out a lot, and then I am back to square one. They do some to have a lot of pigment and as of yet I haven't seen them settle out much. But I use a bit of everything, not every paint manufacturer has everything I need so I have a little from everything, and no one has still made anything perfect.

I've heard that these paints have a "clay base" or something along those lines. I believe they're intended for base-coating and things like that.

Pleased to hear there are more coming. We're heretics in this field - we actually prefer GW to Vallejo.
When you want to do a series of really thinned washes, Vallejo paints seem to disassociate (sp?), while the GW holds up fine. We also find Vallejo to not drybrush as well. While the colors can be pretty luxurious, my staff generally prefer GW for its all-rounder performance. It's nice to pull out a Vallejo where it'll excel, but we don't find we can rely on the brand to be our mainstay.
We do quite like what we've seen of the Model Colors though, and we'll be getting their Flames of War kits for obvious reasons.
Avoid Coat D'Arms is my advice. Half the price isn't worth watching detail on your models disappear, and their color matches to GW paints are often not close enough to make the cut.
Anyone know if these PP paints are up to snuff?

I am now using GW and adding Rackham to it, Some Vallejo colors are nice.... like the metallic medium..... but most are more of a hassle to me.... the Rackham latex-acryliyc need more watering down..... but have a better pigmentation than GW which results in fewer layers to achieve the same effect.

I still mostly use GW. Good all-around, and the current pots are better than the old screw-tops. I still have active bottles of the OLD soft flip-top variety. Gods those were good. I don't know why they don't still use them and that formulation. I tried some Rackham recently. A bit thick for me, but nice pigmentation. Similar to my experience with Vallejo. I have a few Vallejo colors, but I'm really not in love with them. I picked up the Cryx colors P3 set recently, but haven't had a chance to put them to the test. They look really nice though.
