More About Dakka
|
DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.
DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.
Warhammer 40,000
Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.
Warhammer Fantasy
The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.
Warmachine and Hordes
Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.
Flames of War
Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.
Dakka Features
Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:
Wargaming Gallery
The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!
Forums
The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.
Articles
The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.
Army Profiles
Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

10th Edition changed a lot of things for the Talons of the Emperor. Here is a quick overview:
Here are some of the most relevant changes compared to 9th edition:
-Martial Katahs are now chosen at the beginning of the fight phase (yours and your opponents) and last until the end of the fight phase, giving you way more flexibility than before and we only have 3 options now, but all of them are really good.
-Characters are still amazing, but only give their buffs to one unit which they are attached to (this is not unique to Custodes, but how most character units work in 10th)
-Our infantry shooting got a lot better, particularly on Custodian Guard equipped with Guardian Spears.
-Jetbikes are not as good as they were in 9th.
-we still have some of the most powerful stratagems in the game.
-Fight First is THE most powerful ability to have in the fight phase, because in 10th edition if your unit has the Fight First ability, they are going to strike before your opponent does even if your unit has been charged....and we have rather easy access to get this ability via Trajann or using a stratagem. This combined with the new Katah system makes Custodes an absolute nightmare to deal with for any melee focused army.
-Castellan Axes got buffed to 3 damage, but because they strike at -1WS, have one fewer attacks and only -1 AP, the Guardian Spear is the better option in almost all cases.
-Squad sizes are weird in 10th. Custodian Guard can be selected in squads of 4-10 and Wardens can be selected in squads of 3-6...for some reason. This is not exclusive to Custodes, but a general theme in 10th.
-Vexillus Praetors are gone as individual character units. You now buy them as an upgrade for your units to increase their OC value.
-Sisters are no longer completely immune to psychic attacks and effects, but rather have a 3+ Feelnopain against everythin...

Welcome all to the 110th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.
This month the topic is Let's Finish This! - Soldiers prepped for the big battle, two arch-enemies in a duel, a sniper ready for that one, perfect shot. In meta terms, we could tackle something we have been meaning to get around to, or else those last few models from a starter box. This month we?ll also suspend the ?must be painted in the month? rule and allow you to finish a project that was previously started, but stalled. However if you choose this option, you must post a proof picture of the start point, preferably early in the month. Painting a partially finished model is an option, and not required. You can start something new that fits the theme and participate as normal.
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can?t start until the 11th hour, that?s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this...

it seems like we're reaching the end of 3rd edition, and 4th edition is on the horizon. with any edition turnovers, change is inevitable... so what do you think needs changing? are there any rules you want altered, or something taken out/added?
i think AOS is in a really good spot right now, so i don't have much to say on this topic, but i think it could be interesting to allow for characters attaching to units. 10th edition's implementation of the idea is a bit shaky, but if it's more of a WHFB/HH sort of thing, where characters don't rely on joining units for their abilities, it could add a little to the game
