More About Dakka

DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.

DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.

Warhammer 40,000

Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.

Warhammer Fantasy

The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.

Warmachine and Hordes

Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.

Flames of War

Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.

Dakka Features

Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:

Wargaming Gallery

The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!

Forums

The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.

Articles

The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.

Army Profiles

Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Sponsor Press Release:
Trench Builder Kickstarter

Posted: 2025-12-03 00:00:00

TRENCH BUILDER: Joy Games Interactive is launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of hard plastic injected kit that provides pre-made raw materials like wood planks, logs in different lengths and diameter, stakes, wattle and wood walls sections, corrugated metal sheets, boardwalks, etc, for you to quickly build custom trenches!

Production will be done in the US and planned to have a distribution center in the UK to reduce shipping cost to the minimum.

Along the plastic bits, there will be vacuum-formed ground tops/hills, a light-weight and affordable way that requires minimal work to use in game (just paint them!).

Also STL files of scenery pieces and miniatures will be offered for those who use 3D printers.

Follow now to get 30% off early birds as soon as the campaign goes live!

Dakka Forum: Ship boarding actions in grim dark future

We have a fight. Brave boarding party hit enemy's ship on their cestus ram and...
End what next? I mean in every novel we seen same gak. They rushing toward decks like it's running stadium. Yeah there not so brave defenders. In most cases just some hobos. But wait? What is it? iTS A BULKHEAD DOOR!!!

Sarcasm a said where all that ol' good hermetic doors? It's a space ship in an age of constant war and it'll shall be logical to shut them to prevent oxygen leak(and dead bodies leak from hole in hull, which we seen in every damn space battle . Imperial ships do not have emergency protocol which shut all doors locked? It's have and we see it in Cain novels. So how many meltas mines do boarding party can bring with them? And how many doors on mile long corridor? How long it took to cut them all with meltas torch? What's happening with brave boarders when they stuck before next door...

P.S. sorry just read another groks product in novels and get a bit frustrated

Dakka Forum: How do you calculate the worth of a box of miniatures?

We're all in the habit of buying miniatures but I know for sure I look at a lot of kits and think "Cool, but not at that price" so I was wondering how other people decide what to pass on and what to buy.

I've seen people online arguing that it only makes sense to do "points per miniature" which I've always thought was the absolute worst way to figure this stuff out, but I'm interested if anyone has a defense for it!

I play lots of different games and I expect to use my models in those games. And so it makes no sense to calculate based on the in game value of the models for one system for me. And I don't care if it's a skirmish game either. I don't think having bajillions of parts in your kit is a selling point, especially if what it builds is still very monopose.

Instead, I think of around 1 euro per human sized 28mm mini as good value, under that is excellent value. Increasing size gives you some leeway but only for stuff that I think should be that size, like Ogres or Trolls, but not for Space Marines which are too big these days. 2 euro per dude is acceptable especially if the kit is nice, 3 euro starts to get a bit too high but I might still go for it if I like the kit. If the model is very unique, I'm more forgiving about price, so a really unique concept I always think is harder to sell than something more generic, and so my sense of value is a bit more flexible.

For vehicles I think small ones should be 20-25 euro and bigger ones 30-40 euro. Sub in big monsters for vehicles, basically the same idea.

Fancy characters are something I usually kitbash out of other kits but if I'm buying something very cool then I'd want it to be no more than 10 euro.

If I am looking at a Combat Patrol or something I basically slap those prices onto the minis in the set to see if I think it's worth getting. With the old start collectings and some of the combat p...
