Im going to keep a wip log from my personal army(s) here.
Currently im working on my pre heresy Emperor's children.
Yesterday i got a my FW order and it felt like Christmas
20 marines mk2 and mk4
20 phopos bolters
5 cataprachti terminators
Special weapon set for the cataprachti
1 command set
Yes! Yes!
I will be watching this PLOG with great interest. I started a heresy-era EC force last year [see signature link] but stopped due to funds, university and awaiting on FW rumours to come true (which they did!) I'm going to be kick starting my force again this December with pure heresy-period material. Isn't the FW book just lovely? So much inspiration and material to work with!
I was not aware that the Command Set was now available? Damn! Good luck with this, I'll be watching it very, very closely.
Just one thing I kinda notice. You made the tracks of the Land Raider dirty, but not dirty enough. I mean...the thing has been riding through the mud, and only the centre of the tracks are dirty? I would imagine the whole bottom of the tank being rather brown.
Same goes for the Dreadnought's feet.
I'm really...erm...maybe it's better if I say it in Dutch: ik ben hier echt aan het mierenneuken hoor!
The paint jobs are great!. I find it comical that the tech marine cant actually fit through the hatch on that land raider. "Damn shoulder pads! When I find the techpriest that designed the hatch on this tin can I'm going to show him the righteous fury of the Emperor.....That is if I can ever get out of here."
Empchild wrote: Lovely work, just lovely mind if I ask how you did your paint break down as that's a great purple and very smooth.
Its airbrushed with lich purple with black then lich purple then lich purple white.
After that i washed the groove's with nuln oil and started to highlight with a mix of lich purple white and addin more and more white to it till its pure white.
Legion of Damnation wrote:Nice children - wish I could paint like that the FW Mk IV Captain is a sweet model eh?
Yep it is indeed
Tonight i played a game with my children i needed to proxy some but need to know what i buy since FW aint cheap
Here is my list:
So small point of suggestion as the land raider was off to me. The muddy treads are great but make no sense on the model as nothing else is dirty. You may want to dirty and muddy up the lower parts of the tank all around.
Wow that's nice. I'll be keeping an eye on this.
As for the list, I like it, (1850), although you may want LC sponsons on your preds to crack some armour (depending on your meta of course)

Agree on your point there Going to add it!

Its a 1750 list and and i got almost no points left to play with... but thanks for thinking with me
Well that is amazing. The Osl on the claws is absolutely incredible! Also would you mind sharing you recipe for the gold? Mine always comes out way to dark.
Thanks guys!!!
Really appreciate all the comments!
Alpharius:
As for how i did the snow:
PVA glue mixed with white paint then put it on the base and let it dry (you can put more layers of this depending on how much volume of snow you want)
Then i used snow flock from GW on the last layer and its done
Pretty easy huh ?
sum1thtdiesalot:
I used Warplock bronze as base color.
Then i highlighted this with Runelord brass
Highlight again with Runelord bronze mixed with some mithril silver about 50/50
Then i washed it with Seraphim sepia.
When this was dry i higlighted it with pure mithril silver but only on the area's were light would hit and the gold would ''shine'' the most.
Hope this helps
And this weekend i finished the first cataprachti:
These emp's children are absolutely stunning. You've achieved a very rich purple and it works so well. Especially contrasting with the snow on the bases. Looking really good. Excited to see more.
Thank you guys
Im pretty heppy with him myself only thing i did wrong is one of the decorations on the shield but not planning on changing it to much work
Mind blown. Really impressive work mate! Your skill with highlighting and osl is astounding, heck, I didn't think the lighting on the termites claws were actually painted on they looked that real!
The second Cataphractii looks fantastic. Love the OSL on the Thunderhammer. My one gripe is that I'm not sure, as a Pre-Heresy model, he should have a Crux Terminatus. I was under the assumption that they were only given out after the Heresy had occurred. I could be wrong, though.
I thought the purple and metallics where ace but with the OSL effects, especially on the twin lightning claws it all just leapfrogged into another league!
And while you are making Alph's shields I would greatly appreciate a tutorial on how you paint that amazing purple! The flat surfaces on the drop pod really showcase how great your highlighting and blending is.
The Drop Pod is looking great. I love the stark contrast between the purple outer shell and the gray/white interior. It really makes the model pop when it's all opened up.
This just gets better and better! Very glad I've subbed this would you mind explaining what colours were used and how you did your power weapon OSL? I've been trying for ages and can't get it anywhere near as good as that Keep up the amazing work
Since so many people are asking for my recipe for my purple ill try to explain.
First i start with a black undercoat. (shown as grey in the picture)
Step 1 - Then i mix lich purple with black 50/50 in my airbrush and start with the first layer. (see picture)
I airbrush this only on the places were the light would hit so i leave the recesses black. (Grey in the picture)
Step 2 - Then i put pure lich purple in my airbrush and layer this on top of the purple from step 1. (see picture)
Step 3 - Then i mixed White with the lich purple i have left in my airbrush 50/50 and spray this on top of the layer i did in step 2. (see picture)
Step 4 - After this is all done i wash the recesses and rivets with Nuln oil. (see picture)
Step 5 - When this is all done i give the whole model a varnish and start the edge highlighting with the same mix as in step 4. (50/50 mix White and Lich purple)
When i highlight these edges i keep in mind that the light source is above so i only highlight parts were light would hit.
Step 6 - Then as last step i do a final highlight with a mix of White and lich purple (95/5) again only parts were the light would hit the most with the light source coming from above.
Make sure you leave the highlight you did in step 5 visible.
I found a video on youtube that might help:
(this is not my video so credits go to ScaleModelMedic who made the video!)
Elnibbus: it is done with the airbrush.
What i do is first i spray pure white ate the eyes then the color (red in this case) then paint the eyes with orange.
So it is a long time since i did an update so here is one:
Some new toy's!
The Storm Eagle is going to be Fulgrim's personal transport so ill add allot of gold to it as described in the novel Fulgrim.
Looks fantastic, Scar. Really love the jetbike and predator, an I can't wait to see the Typhon painted up. Where's the eagle head on the Stormeagle from?
Thanks for the tip Scar, will be applying it to my Space Wolves, though I will be doing the lenses on them green. I was contemplating redoing the Wolves I have already done to incorporate the zenithal highlighting technique however I think it only works really well on large models, like vehicles and dreads. Will have a play about when I get my airbrush for Christmas! No doubt I'll harass you for more tips in the near future
The Eagle and Typhon will take some time to get painted since i first need to paint 35 marines and 1 more pred and ofcourse finish the cataprachti terminators when that is all done i will be working on the rest!
Stay tuned for a painted Tac squad!

Anyway ive started on one of my cataprachti:
These are looking amazing mate. The OSL on your Cataphractii is the business. I really like the shade of purple you have going on. Look forward to seeing more
I like your painting style - very sharp and clean. Looks even better with the snowy base. Along with the subtle conversion work it makes a great impression. Well done!
I absolutely love what you've done with these guys. Great conversion work (I rather like the massive aquila on the Storm Eagle, and I'm looking forward to the shield tutorial), gorgeous paint work (that OSL, particularly)... amazing job! Looking forward to seeing more. subscribed and exalted, needless to say.
Airbrushing, then edge highlighting is an excellent idea. Think this is the first time i've seen it done. This has just blown my mind off... literally amazed at your painting style. Better get an airbrush....
1 Emperors Children Contemptor with Kheares assault cannon
10 Mark 4 to build a 5 man stern guard and a 4 man royal guard for Fulgrim.
1 Librarian Lloth with honor guard to make the royal guard for Fulgrim.
5 Heavy support Mark 4 with plasma cannons.
And indeed the 2nd picture is what i got to see when i opened the librarian lloth and honor guard.
So now i need to wait for replacements....
Never had such a bad cast as this one... Oh well sh*t happens
No had it before with FW and they just sent you new ones for free.
I just hope they feel so ashamed that i get a full new set that would just be really awsome!
I got a lot painted up already but you all just have to wait for pictures till the 13th of next mount!!
Then it is the armies on parade here in the Netherlands and i can show all of you the army in its full glory!
And i will try and get these new additions to the army painted up and fit on the board as well!
that be some really cool models man, nice job
ur painting skills are out-standard to say the least and that jetbike, sensational
maybe you could build up more jetbikes with that one as the champion or something and the rest be chapterhouses

I am thinking of making a new legion to go with my EC since the EC are already around 2500 points and i just want to add Fulgrim and leave it with that and start to paint something new... So what legion?
I was thinking or Sons of horus or Ironhands since those to are the 2 legions mostly related to the emperors children.
Anny idea's?
Then on to some WIP pictures of my new toys!
I have managed to repair the torso's that were so bad with green stuff.
Also FW is going to replace the torso's for me so i can add even more guys to this unit or save them up for later projects.
Any way here is the unit so far:
Nice work on all the power armor guys and the new dreadnought. My vote is for the iron hands just because I haven't seen very many of those compared to other legions.
I think the brutal World Eaters next to the graceful EC would be a good combo too. Or even the undecorated DG to the super decorated EC. I like the juxtaposition.
Ive started to work on my typhon siege tank and since i did not want to paint him in EC colors and i want to make a new legion of marines i thought lets make him a world eater!!
I only need 6 more marines for my EC army and it is fully finished!
Soon ill post pictures of the whole army in its full glory with the display board i made for them!
Just a little more patience
But enough chatting!
WIP Pictures:
your work is just phenomenal. You have absolutely mastered the art of weathering/battle damage. I love the chipping effect especially on the world eaters landraider. Awesome work!
Holy cow! that pic from the top showing the driver and the weathering is just inspiring, really shows the brutal nature of that tank with the bare metal cannon and the worn chipped and dirty paint, I love it!
Im totally new to the weathering chipping effects but i think an army of this would look really impressive!
So thats my next goal!
I will use the chaos codex for the 40k games only dont know what list to play yet need to have an evening read in the book and make a fun list that is a little bit competitive as well.
Know No Pear wrote: I think you're probably gonna need lots of Rhinos, since WE are mostly Khornate, and there's gonna be lots of berserkers(probably?).
Not being able to charge when you get out of a rhino makes them rather pointless, it really is a give away for first blood.
Better options are Land Raiders or if your going FW Spartans and Storm Eagles.
Saw blades are genius! I will be interested to see how you deal with the beserker guys. Was not a fan of the way FW painted them but if anyone can do them justice it would be you!
I spent, literally, untill 3am this morning, thinking what Legion to create using the Betrayer book..and then i stumbled on this little Gem of a blog and was blown away. What a fountain of inspiration. So i spent untill 5am, making shopping lists online with FW, i even spent a fracking hour finding where you got the Eagle wing sticking out shoulder pad chap (Which was not a fun hour by the way so thanks for that!). Then i sleep, peacefully, knowing where my hobby path will send me for the next few months. THEN...THEN...i wake up and see your beautiful World Eaters and the future plans...now im torn again. Livid.
Oh of course, well done on the modelling, and fantastic painting, i just wanted to let you know you ruined my Easter Sunday with crushing indecision!
In all serious mate, iv never seen better painted Emperor's Children.

LOL im seriously pissing my pants here!
Thanks for the nice compliments! and sorry for ruining your Easter sunday!!
Commander Cain:
Thanks!
I have 5 more of them to build and also a 2nd WE contemptor.
Im planning on painting them the same as i did the typhon.
I think your painting is awesome, and your Typhon has kindled my love for big tanks! (Not sure if that's a good thing for my wallet, hah!)
Looking forward to how your WE force is gonna turn out!
Then a big update!!
I wanted to show you all this much earlier but it needed to be a little secret and since its only 2 days to go before the competition i thought what the heck
I present you my Armies On Parade Display Board for 2013:
The Battle of Isstvan V
-Ugrall Plateau-
Oh and there you go just whipping out a couple of other finalists. You never cease to amaze!
While the paintjob on the actual minis is perfect (of course), the scrolls, especially on Eisenhorn's don't seem to fit. I think actual paper soaked in tea with coffee dabbed on the outside and then some actual ink writing would have looked better. Of course, that is just nit picking, the minis themselves are pure perfection.
Thanks all!
And my army took gold at the Armies On Parade finals!
Also gold for Eisenhorn and the chaos BSB!
It was a Great day with some tough competition!
Though i do not think i deserved the first price in the fantasy category...
On to the next project!
That is an incredible contemptor. The weathering and gore in particular are great, and I think the more creamy colour works (and is possibly more realistic: dirt). Often gore detracts from a model I think, but here it really works.
Is it bad that my favourite of your Emperor's Children models is the Drop Pod? Just the contrast with the crisp white makes it stand out for me.
lennymaybe wrote: Impressive as ever. Have you got any other World Eaters stuff planned?
Yes upcomming 1 more contemptor dread
A pre heresy Kharn with 8 Rampagers that are going to count as Berzerkers
2 pre heresy flyers that can count as hell drakes (if anyone knows a cool conversion for this please say!! or a cool idea? it is all very much welcome!!)
3 Predators
Land raider
+/- 30 marines
Fantastic paint jobs - really, really good. Quick question though - where are the Jetbikes from ? I've been looking at a few online because the Forgeworld ones are stupidly priced but I don't recognise those at all.
Nephilim
Today i got some new FW stuff to get some more Children in my army!
10 mk4 marines
5 devastators with lascannons
4 Hyporious Air defence systems
1 techmarine
Some more weapon options for my contemptor dreads
Nephilim: Haha yep it is him!
And i cant say its a cheaper solution but they look much better imo.
Commander Cain: Haha, ill take that as a compliment
I would like to ask you all for some help!
What kind of flyer to build for heresy that i can use as a hell drake in 40k I need to build 2 of them!
The only thing i get back to all the time is the Hell talon or Hell blade from FW.
But what i would really like is to build a nice conversion and of course make it fit the Pre heresy theme.
So please if you have any cool idea's or pictures of pre heresy flyers, share it with me so i can finally get something going!
And now on to some WIP!
Here are some more Emperors children ready to get some paint!
A unit of sternguard a Lascannon devastator squad and a techmarine:
And a shot of all the painted Children i have so far:
Then some World eaters that i am working on at the moment:
Thanks guys for thinking with me on this!!
But i think ill be going for one of the following flyers.
They are both about the same size as a hell drake.
Hi Scar, I wanted to chime in with some praise having read through your thread. I never thought a purple space marine army could look so great! I'm reading through the horus heresy novels at the moment (currently on Fulgrim), and I always imagined that the emperor's children would look like a bunch of pansies, but these look awesome. Well you be picking up a FW Fulgrim? Also, the Firebird looks much more low key than I'd expect from the primarch's personal transport, although I like the conversion work you've done on it I think it could be more ornate and ostentatious, considering Fulgrim's tastes
The first one is sleek and more aesthetically pleasing, which would probably be more fitting for Emperors Children. But if you want to have a flyer for World Eaters then I think the more boxy and brutish appearance of the second one would make sense.
Ok I've done it :( I ordered a Warhound but now i need a color scheme for it... And i was thinking about the World eater Warhound color but it is red and i don't know if i want that tbh.
Imho there are too many of these beasts painted red... So anyone has a cool idea for a color that can work with my Emperors children and with my World Eaters ?
Thanks in advance!
Kitch102: Thanks for that idea! Ill give it a serious thought!
GiraffeX: Think ill go something like that indeed! Thanks for sharing!
So this morning the doorbell ring and i got my package from FW!
My first ever titan! Whoohoo
And right in time for the Apocalypse battle tomorrow
After a full day of work i manage to get it together... What a kit! haha
Here are some pictures of how he stands right now and below a picture of how much resin junk it had on its parts.
Im going to try and paint all the interiour tonight.
Stay tuned for updates!
What, I don't have talent. It took me a whole day to assemble and pint a warhounds titan , you sir are awesome, I can't wait to see the end results of this build
Stay tuned for updates today since its paint the titan day!!
Oh and here are some pictures of 2 Apocalypse games!
The first one i organized at our local gaming club it was a 1500pt for each person with a max of 1 super heavy.
Was a fun battle and it didn't take that long so we could finish it in 1 evening.
Unfortunately the titan got killed after 1 round haha deep strike melta spam :(
Anyway here are the pictures!
Then the day after i played a proper apoc game against one of the club members and it was fun!
5000 points chaos demons with trator guards against my 5000 points loyal marines with World eater chaos marines.
At turn 4 the battle was decided my opponent did not bring enough lascannons and his 3 demon princes and exalted blood thirster did not manage to get close enough to my titan.
Here some pictures:
Automatically Appended Next Post: So here is today's work on the Warhound!
Off topic here but the man on the left of the first picture looks like a young Tim Roth in my eyes, now on topic your army is gorgeous especially your new Warhound the subtle battle damage along with the interior is very striking and crisp well done on achieving this and I know that the final picture will be as breath taking as the rest of your army!
I find it very hard to describe how much I love your EC. They have a strong appeal and if I had the time & money, I would absolutely start an army of them. Until then, just looking at your stunning pieces of art is more than enough for me. Exalted.
Work on the titan goes on but pretty slow because i'm really busy with commission work.
I have finished 9 rampagers tho 4 of myself and 5 for a client who want them in the same way i paint mine so here is a group shot!
Im selling my Emperors Children on Ebay atm so this plog is going to turn into a World Eaters only plog!
Hope you all keep up the great support you give me!!
Really helps me to finish the World Eaters in time for the GT here at 26th of october!
I can see the Emperors Children selling in no time! Especially with the amount of love and care each model has had on them. (what about a Dakkarite rate for us?) (just kidding)
Well after a successful sale of my Emperors Children i have placed a new order at FW!
As for the upcoming models here is a list!
I cant wait finish up this world eater army!
WORLD EATERS LEGION MKII SHOULDER PADS
CATAPHRACTII POWER AXE SET
CATAPHRACTII SPECIAL WEAPONS SET
LEGION MK II COMMAND UPGRADE
SPACE MARINE BOLTER - PHOBOS PATTERN X10
WORLD EATERS LEGION RHINO DOORS
WORLD EATERS LEGION LAND RAIDER DOORS
10 CATAPHRACTII PATTERN TERMINATORS
10 MAN LEGION MKII CRUSADE ARMOUR
5 MAN LEGION MKII ASSAULT SQUAD
SPACE MARINE APOTHECARY SET
1x SPARTAN ASSAULT TANK
1x LEGION SCIMITAR PATTERN JETBIKE SQUADRON
1x STORM EAGLE
1x AVENGER STRIKE FIGHTER
Now i only have 1 problem!
I need to make it work in 40k.... I have played several lists so far but its kinda hard to get something that fits the army...
CSM are really not my thing why?
- Hard to find a proper model for the hell drake.
- 2 contemptors playing as hell brutes sucks.
- Raptors are bad without proper support
- Close combat terminators are not that great.
Making a working close combat army in this edition of 40k without using Fiends and Spawns is almost impossible...
Or am i wrong now?
Does anyone have a suggestion? Please let me know!
Then the other army that does fit the World Eater profile a bit fluff wise is Blood Angels.
Why blood angels?
- Contemptors are playable as furioso dread with blood talons in drop pods
- Rampager are playable as Death company
- Apothecary's can be played as priests
- Propper close combat terminators
- Storm eagle is playable as Storm raven
So for now i'm leaning more to the blood angels but i was wondering if anyone of you have some cool idea's or suggestions?
One of the cool things BA have are fast rhino chassis tanks. You can move your vindicators 12", and blast away with the big gun. The cheap libby is the best HQ choice for them, imo.
Here you will find daily updates and little video's of my work and of course tutorials!
Thanks in advance!
Then onto some other stuff
Last tuesday i got this HUGE box from Forgeworld and started to work on the models in my spare time.
Here are some WIP pics of the models so far!
And some WIP on fulgrim!
This model is in my opinion by far the best model GW or Forge World has ever made the detail on it is really amazing!
But seriously, what Gitsplitta said, it's a stunning model:
Gitsplitta wrote:That's simply glorious Scar. Amazing detail, good composition, not too much chipping but enough to give it that battle-worn look. I'm very impressed!
That Titan made me gasp: absolutely incredible piece of work there. Unique color combos, incredible application, weathering is top notch, I love that model.
He came out great. GJ!
I like the eyes especially: looks like he used makeup - perfectly suits such a character. Nice touch!
Though I still can't stand the way his mouth been sculpted by FW... It gives me creeps. And somehow makes it clear, why he became a Slaanesh Daemon Prince

Strange, the slightly cross-eye look is the only Thing the bothers me on the paintjob!
Otherwise top notch super duper ace!
And - what is wrong with the mouth?
I see a noble commander yelling the next encouraging command to his troopers!
AAN wrote: Strange, the slightly cross-eye look is the only Thing the bothers me on the paintjob!
For me it looks like he's focused on the foe... Well, slightly cross-eyed, indeed.
AAN wrote: And - what is wrong with the mouth?

Way too big even for a superhuman entity, imo. Looks a bit disproportionate... Like he's trying to swallow you... It's creepy.
Anyway, a matter of perception, you know.
Those World Eaters are really nice Scar, there's something about the blue that makes them stand out a lot more than any other pre heresy WE's I've seen, they look fantastic.
Really nice blog, your emperor's children are really top, I am a little less a fan of world eaters but i think that it is a personal taste.
Your titan is really awesome as fulgrim!
Thanks m8!
Well its my job
I paint +/- 12 hours a day from my own models to models from clients so that might be the reason
And i'm quite fast with painting the models i agree thats why it is possible for me to live from it now and i hope it stays like that!
I love the Fulgrim, I'm not a huge fan of the actual mini but you've done him great. Esp the base on him, I've seen loads where there is so much happening on the base it really takes away from the primarch, yours is not too over the top and really incharacter.
