Hello fellow Dakkanauts!
So, this is it then, my very own Dakka P&M blog! This little blog will feature my Blood Angels (yes, I know, even more Blood Angels ), Death Skulls Orks and some Forge World Astral Claws in the near (grimdark) future (the first squad is underway!). The BA army is now around the 2000+ points, while the ork army is still pretty small (10 ork boys, 10 gretchin, 5 stormboyz, 5 burnas and I have the ork half of the Stormclaw box laying around.). I use the Blood Angels as my main gaming army, because my orks are no way near competitive right now . As for the Astral Claws, I'm not gonna game with those guys, I think I'll just paint them for fun and give 'em a little extra i.e. paint em better than tabletop minis.
I started my BA army begin this year and its the first time I did anything with Warhammer 40k and its minis, so you might see some mold lines and undrilled guns on the older models, so please bear with me!
Alright, first up the BA tactical squad. These guys still need to be highlighted and some parts need to be basecoated etc. Nothing special here:
This guy is a test model, his armour is already highlighted.
The Sanguinary Guard (oooh shineh!)
Death Company Dreadnought:
His body is almost finished, still need to fix things here and there (I tried to write Baal on one of his seals and failed miserably!) Next up, arms and talons!
I thought that this model was pretty cool so I decided that this will be my captain! (I'm really digging that toilet cleaner/mohawk/plume thing!) He's nearly finished but I still need to decide what colours his banner is going to get. Perhaps you guys have some idea's/suggestions?
And now, for da (small) Orky part of this post:
A Gretchin test model! Trying out gretchin skin and blue cloth.
Welp, that's about it for this one. Thanks for viewing and see you guys in the next post!
C&C welcome!

That is some very nice looking work you've done there so far Them tactical marines remind me when I did my Chaos space marine counter part of them
can't wait to see that banner become engulfed with life and imagery

Wish I knew that Nash lol Will remember that for when I eventually get my Blood letters of Khorne
But never seen a Blood Angel have orange highlight so that will be a sight to see if she does that

Funny you should mention that! When I was painting the highlights on my test model (the beakie marine -its not really clear on the photo though-) I used Wild Rider Red (its a bit orange-red) but I was a bit too enthusiastic and the model turned out, well... Orange-ish so I had to go and fix that again with Mephiston Red. So orange is a pretty good highlight for red, but just don't overdo it otherwise your Blood Angels will not be blood red anymore
And thanks for the comment Nash, I'll hope to post some more updates soon!

ah yes the old over-enthusiasm A good red recipe I learnt is only 4 colours and leads to great results:
-Base of Mephiston Red
-Layer on Wazdakka Red
- Heavyish wash with Carroburg Crimson
-Edge highlight with Troll Slayer Orange
What's the recipe for your red?

That's a good recipe will try that for my Khorne daemons once ever get any more of them lol

Hmm that's an interesting recipe! I'll have to test that one out sometime
My recipe I use now:
- Base of Mephiston Red
- Overall wash with Carroburg Crimson
- Edge highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet
- And a little edge highlighting with Wild Rider Red

Hey, thanks for the post in my thread!
Love the Death Company dread, I have three dreads that I am working on currently, feels like I get some inspiration to get them going again after seeing yours!
A note that I taught about, maybe add some highligts on the blue cloak for the SM? A light drybrush might just do it to make the ridges in the cloak pop?

You're welcome elaps! And good that you've got some inspiration for your dreads!
As for the highlights on the cloak, they are there, but you can't see them very well on the photograph. As soon as I'll work on the captain I'll post some better photos and perhaps give the cloak a little touch up while I'am at it. Thanks for the pointer!

I wonder if layering a tiny lighter tone of blue on just the raised area of the cloak would really bring it out? make it look if its really a cloak (as if the sun really was hitting it to create the brighter top / darker folded areas of the cloak) as did that with my Tzneetch sorcerer's base to make the energy seem more active.

W00h00! More Blood Angels!
Since we're all sharing, here's my recipe for my Blood Angels. I don't know all the new colours by hand so there might be some generalisations here and there.
-Basecoat +- 50/50 mechadentrite red & blood red, thinned for airbrush.
-wash of dark red ink, with a tiny bit of brown & black ink, thinned for airbrushing.
-Drybrush highlight with blood red
-Drybrush highlight with blood red & a flat orange
-Drybrush highlight with a flat orange
-Drybrush highlight with Vallejo's Ice yellow.
-wash of dark red ink, with a tiny bit of brown & black ink, thinned for airbrushing.
-glaze of (bright) red, thinned for airbrusing
-Gentle highlight touch-up with Ice Yellow
And then some part later a wash with thinned black oil paint to pick out the details on the entire model.
EDIT: I'm not 100% moldline-proof myself, but try to get rid of them before painting, especially on the helmets.

Yeah, I don't think edge highlighting really works on cloth.... oh well, we'll see.

*Sigh* yeah.. when I first started 40k and bought these lads I didn't really care about the moldlines.... but when I see the photo's I find it quite horrid.... (oh former self you are TOO funny!) I'll pay more attention to my newer models before painting them!

Alright guys, worked on el capitano today. I actually wanted to finish him, but alas, too much work and too little time.
Anyway, on to the pictures~!
On monday I decided to make 'em more Blood Angel-ish and sculpted a blood drop on his helm.
On to the progress of today (they're pretty dark here and there. But I had to take them inside):
Close-up of the sculpted and painted blood drop.
The banner. It still needs to be shaded and highlight.
Thanks for looking lads, stay tuned!

Behold, Grukk Face-Rippa's squig!
Two of my colleagues where battling each other yesterday (Dark Angels vs Space Wolves with their new codex) while I was painting this little guy, and oh my, I had so much fun painting him!
The pictures don't really do him justice and want to change his pink tongue to purple for better contrast the red. But still pretty happy with the result so far!
It think I'm gonna him Charlie, so him enemy's will scream "Charlie bit me!" and then die a slow and painful death!

+++Astral Claws Update
Hiya guys! A little update on the Astral Claws this time, no fancy painted minis alas. But! I want to share some ideas with you guys. Namely the non Space Marine part of the Tyrant's Legion, the human auxilia!
So, I was browsing through Imperial Armour vol 9 the Badab War and when I read the Tyrant's Legion section, I'd loved to do my own version of these guys. And this is what I had in mind:
Legion Auxilia 1 (some sort of PDF)
These guys are the more "professional" and well equipped part of the legion.
- 10 man squad;
- Squad consists of Cadian Shock Troops models with black grey flak armour, one blue shoulder pad sporting the Tyrant's Legion heraldry and urban grey clothing.
Legion Auxilia 2
The cannon fodder unit. Crappy weapons and shabby clothing, fun stuff! Mostly urban grey clothing, perhaps some other colours here and there (they just took everything they could lay their hands on).
- 10 man squad;
- Consists of Colonel Schaeffers Last Chancers (gosh these guys are awesome!) and with some Catachan Jungle Fighters in the mix, as the more brutish guys and Huron fanboys ("Huron Rules" shirts anyone?). These models are butt ugly, but perhaps with a good paintjob they'll look beter. But if you lads have some suggestions of some other models that look like them, feel free to drop me a hint.
Renegade Marauder Squad
Aahh yes, the marauders. The guys that first had fought against Huron and his Astral Claws, now fight (with a little help of money) for the Tyrant and his cause. They have mutations because they live closely to the Maelstrom and some have connections with chaos. So its green stuff time!
- 10 man unit;
- 3 renegade Ogryns (the "brutes");
- 5 cultists as marauders;
- 1 heretek, portrayed by the techpriest enginseer;
- Last but not least, the marauder chief! He's portrayed by inquisitor.
I have an idea for this guy and made a quick and dirty photoshop edit as a ref. I wanted to give him a mask (hiding his ugly face because of mutations?) and some breathing tubes. I'll have to scrape off all the inquisition marks etc.
Here's a quick photoshop of Kornan Helldrake:
Original picture by Games Workshop
SO! What do you guys think? If you know of some models who'd fit these sqauds perfectly, let me know! I'm open for suggestions.
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
They sound pretty good for a basic auxilia to work long side the Space Marines they can keep the much harder hitting Marines save to shoot with no worry of being hit (unless other side has some bombardment weapon hidden away).
Nice model there too good detail put into that.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Yeah their main purpose is being cannon fodder and soak up all the hits for the Space Marines Their models by the way do not necessarily represent what these guys actually can equip on the battle field (such as the inquisitor weapons on the marauder chief). But I see them more as a conversion/painting project. Of course I'll field them when they are finished but more for fun games and to test them out,
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
Aha I see, they'll look good for conversion ways but must say the true lords of conversion availability would have to go to Chaos (plus chaos gods give infinite ideas of embodiments).
Will be great to see some of your conversions when they get done up and such

Sshhh!! Don't tell the Astral Claws
Yesterday I've test fitted the renegade Ogryns. They look pretty awesome IMO. So now it's time to sculpt on the mutations with green stuff and scrape off/wreck all the Imperial markings (oh joy)! Meanwhile I've thought about their colour scheme a bit; black grey armour with some lighter grey bits and red vertical stripes. Mostly the same scheme as the Auxilia troops but with a few differences here and there to make 'em stand apart, but not too much. And I'm cooking up some kind of logo for these guys, will post some ideas later.
Anyway, pics:

And I was pretty surprised by the size of these guys, their even dwarfing Grukk!
Comments, ideas welcome!

I'm not usually a fan of the bullgryn masks, but it looks really good on the central ogryn. See if you can sculpt it to blend into the head!
Would you mind giving me a size comparison between an ogryn hand and an ork nob hand?

Yep he rallied a Death Skulls Ork band. Da boyz insisted on him to wear some blue, otherwise he wudn't be so lucky as da oddur boyz!
I actually love those masks haha. I was going to give that third ogryn a mask too, but that would've been a bit too much methinks.
Sure, I'll make a comparison for you this evening when I'll be back from work.
85880

Can never have too many masks lol specially nice to have them in case people set up certain conditions in matches (as I myself love creating Environment based conditions as may try in future).
But they look really good so far and they'll look even greater painted

I really like what you have done with the bare-chested ogryn model. Enough that I will probably go with them instead of my more extravagant plans. I will need to get an extra bare chest from ebay, but that should be easy enough.
Few comments about your auxilia list - for the cheapo conscripts, don't forget the army list has a 1+ requirement for a unit of 20 auxilia models.
Also, the marauder unit only has an option for two brutes, and all of the models in the unit must have the same options from Murder Cultists/Hereteks/Stalkers.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Thanks for the comment Fifty!
My auxilia and marauder list does indeed not match up with the list in the Badab campaign books, but I'm not using these guys as a gaming army, more a conversion/ painting project. So I allowed myself some freedom when setting up the lists

Makes me want to get back up my conversion project of making a squad leader for Ogryn groups and maybe in custom matches or in friendly matches (if people were all right with it that were in the matches themselves) as an HQ unit and that was creating a Ogryn based from a mix of the old and new version of Bane.

It's a great kit! I can really recommend it as it's pretty diverse. If you pick it up cheap on eBay it's an even better deal.

+++Astral Claws Update
Alright guys a little update. I've worked on some ideas I had for the Tyrant's Legion; IG's with black armour and urban grey clothing in combination with a blue shoulder pad sporting the Tyrant Legion heraldry. Now, I've bought some snap fit Cadian troopers to be my lab rats *cough* test models and roughly painted them. And I'm not sure which shoulder pad design is the best for these guys. Perhaps you, my fellow Dakkanauts can help me out.
The first one has a dark grey shoulder pad, the second entirely blue and the third is more of a thick blue stripe with heraldry.
Individual shots:
I've had to free hand that darn symbol, so please ignore that crappy black and white "blob" It was my first time that I did any symbols free hand but Mengels awesome tutorial helped me a lot! (the one on the grey shoulder pad was my first attempt but it got only worse later on )
So, which one do you guys like best? Let me know and if you have some suggestions, go ahead!
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
Oh god they are taking form :O them Auxilia are looking good so far I'd never try free handing a symbol as I know it would look horrific If I did it x)
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Which one of the three shoulder pads do you like the most? I can't decide between the first and the second one
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
That is tough to choose as they both look equally good but I'd have to choose the second one.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Thanks! Now, I really have to get that transfer sheet from Forge World with Tyrant's Legion heraldry. I'm so not doing all those shoulder pads free hand
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
That would be better to do mass shoulders with them lol Barely used them transfers as used other methods to make them show what group they work for
10667
Post by: Fifty
I like the middle one, entirely blue shoulder pad, best.
It does make it a lot easier when you are not building for gaming - less waste of models! I am gonna have a left-over ogryn. Ot does occur to me that I could try and convert him for Blood Bowl though...
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Awesome! I think I'll be going with that one.
Exactly! thats why I decided to do all three ogryns and it's a pretty expensive kit so I don't wanna waste models. Aah yes Blood Bowl a good way to make use of your left over models!
86018
Post by: YourIntestines
Thanks!
I reckon that I could have some nobs wielding battle mauls if I swapped the arms at the base of the ogryn's wristband.
Same for some wannabe Badrukks with looted rippa guns.
I think not freehanding all the symbols was a good idea.
32676
Post by: Meph
Hmmm. personally I'm leaning to shoulder pad 1 or 3. The full blue plate seems to look a bit too busy or out of place compared to the rest of the model. But that might be because of the lack of highlighting. or maybe becaus ethat blue is a bit too blue to nicely suit with the uniform's grey. Perhaps a slightly greyish blue would suit it better?
Or I might be suffering from post-weekend-trauma and I'm rambiling without rhyme nor reason...
88450
Post by: Leviathus
I think the blue is too stark compared to the rest of the colours. I've struggled with the blue before and its now a mix of GWs Macragge Blue and Vallejo's Magic Blue, but it's still too bright. I'll try your greyish blue suggestion Meph, thanks!
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
If you want a dark blue I'd recommend you place down a medium shade of blue (so somewhere not too dark to start but not ultra bright) and once dried to give it a wash of blue as that will darken the entire shoulder down to let the symbol be more standing out then the rest of the shoulder

Post by: Leviathus
Thanks for the feedback Styro! Will do a 4th shoulder pad (blue grey one) next week or so, will post pics of that when it's ready.
In the meantime, enjoy this little Orky update:
Yesterday me and a colleague wanted to do a battle between Orks and Blood Angels, but due to circumstances the battle was canceled *cough*theorksgotscared*cough* so we sat down and painted instead
Grukk was eager to get some paint on him so I decided to work on his skin (under envious looks of the Blood Angels- especially the tactical squad whom been waiting for like forever).
Boy I'm really switching between projects am I Oh well, next week the Tyrant's Legion will get an update (perhaps some green stuff). Stay tuned!

DarkMistro wrote:Very nice Ork Must admit thought I miss the dark green skinned Orks from 4th edition and 5th edition. But the lighter skin is growing on me slightly.
I try not to do them as light as GW does their Orks now (a bit too light green for my tastes- it does fit the gretchins though). The nobz on the other hand are going to be a bit darker. But since Grukk is my warboss, I wanted to make him pop more.
DarkMistro wrote:Watch out for green stuff Lev, don't underestimate it lol takes all manner of scrubbing like mad to get it off your hands if sticks lol
That's why I have a whole pot of petroleum jelly by my side to make it less sticky But green stuff is still a tricky business, it's so soft and flexible after you mix it, you'll easily destroy your newly sculpted shapes, so I think I'll just wait a couple of minutes and let it harden a wee bit, otherwise all my hard work will be for naught
32676
Post by: Meph
While a nice paint job for sure, the skin feels a bit too cold for my taste.
Pehaps worth experimenting with a thinned wash with maybe a brown, a blue, or a dark green tint?
Just an idea of course, as said, it's a nice paint job and just a matter of personal taste.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Thanks for the feedback Meph! Although I like the colour scheme it looks indeed a bit cold (I'm not sure if it's because of the picture though), perhaps a wash or a warm glaze will fix it.
85880
Post by: DarkMistro
Ah good idea with having that next to you when green stuff is at work lol well if want it to set quicker then put more yellow then blue (only bit of green stuff I 100% know of ratio effects lol)
Aye with brighter green skins for Gretchins is better as they are smaller so darker skin would make them dim, whilst as you having darker skin on Nobz and such is just ideal as larger model, should have more darker sections to compliment brighter

And that's not all! I also managed to get my hands on... *drum sounds*
Space Hulk!! I missed out on the last one so I had to get this release Man love those models, I'm definitely gonna use the termies for my Blood Angels army! Anyway, on to the real updates.
First some Astral Claws! I'm painting up the assault squad. I still need to buy some bits for the sergeant so he's on hold for now, but I want to finish at least one of them to see if my painting scheme works out:
Heads on sticks!
On to the orks. Like I said, I've bought some secondhand orks, mostly boyz, stormboyz and an old warboss, and the Black Reach orks were part of the deal too! You really gotta love them Deffkoptas:
I had a Stormboyz grot laying around so I decided to make him a bit more useful. Stikk bombs away!
Some old skool Stormboyz:
I really wanted to make an own converted Warboss with lots of techy stuff. So those new warbosses were destined to be converted. At first I wanted to use the Black Reach one but he looked too much like Grukk, thus the old metal warboss was my next victim er... choice.
His bionic arm is a bash of Kromlech's Mechanical CCW Arms, Kromlech's Mechanical Crushers and Nobz shoulder pads. This is still a test assembly so ignore the glue tack. Behold:
I've also bought some Maxmini Orc Tech Freaks heads and while I love them, they're quite big, perhaps a bit too big for my warboss. Could you guys help me decide here?
First option, the standard head that comes with this model. Not very techy so I'll have to sculpt on some techy stuff then:
At this point his arm with the gun kept falling off so it's not included in the next pictures. The first Maxmini head:
The second:
The third one:
My favourite is the first Maxmini head, but it's quite big (especially with that large jaw) so it makes the model a bit goofy. The third one is a bit better but doesn't have all the cool gubbinz. Perhaps the original is still the best... hmmm... what do you guys think?
Unfortunately no mutated ogryns in this update :( I had no inspiration whatsoever to work on them, perhaps next week but I can't promise anything
Anyway, thanks for ready guys!

Them Orks look very fearsome, good work of the blending of resins and metal there can't wait to see more updates on that
Ah Space Hulk, forgot that made a small appearance again but its shadowed by Dark Eldar update which means... got to buy new Wracks and Haem for my army lol

And good stuff you've got in the pipeline!

Thanks Meph! I still need to play the actual game oh well, I will some day, as long as I have the miniatures, I'm content
A small Astral Claws update:
Managed to paint the most of the metal on the assault marine this evening. Next up; shoulder pads, jump pack, weapons and weathering!
And his eyes need to pop more, but that's for an other day, sleep time now...
Cheers!

DarkMistro wrote:Looks like a very good start on him can't wait to see how he looks completed
Thanks! I'm not really satisfied with the outcome at the moment, so with the next test I'll use some darker metal to see if the highlights work better.
Anyway, here's another update for you guys! The warboss made a bit of progress but not much as I liked though. It was a real struggle to put the bosspole together and it not yet glued on the warboss, so for picture purposes, glue tack time!
I used the gretchin from the warbikers box for this one as I wanted to give him an 'elper to fix possible mechanical failures. Still need to write out the fluff for the warboss, but he already has a name: Gubtoof 'Eadchoppa! He prefers to call himself Da 'Eadchoppa.
So, on to the next! I've had my eye on this for a while and I couldn't resist to put it together when I bought it. Da Ork Mek gun!
And some bikers! Da 'Ardy Deff Sunz! Still need to assemble the third one though. They have some awesomesauce trash bases from Micro Art Studio.
Used a Fantasy Warboss head to add some flair Man, these fantasy ork heads are tiny compared to the 40k ones!
Next up, the renegade ogryns! Yes, I've been green stuffin' It's not yet finished and his shoulder needs some more work (some horns etc). It's not really clear in this picture but his chest has little teeth
*Sigh*, I really need to stop buying stuff and start finishing it! Anyway, enjoy this little update. Thanks for watching!
Oh before you go, have a Lugft Huron doodle
Cheers~!

Nice, I found it very difficult to get the hang of painting with a drawing pad. Always when drawing, and also when I used to paint on a drawing table/easel, I had the habit of either turnign the paper, or moving myself around a bit for certain angles.
That doesn't work with drawing pads... damn it was a hard transition that's not 100% complete yet. old dog and new tricks...dammit!

A drawing pad is really hard to get used to. It took me a while too. But at work I use a Wacom Cintiq which is basically a computer screen where you can draw on. And when you've tried that, you'll NEVER want to go back to your drawing pad It's pretty expensieve, but it's worth it!

Ooooh that's a good idea! Will do!

Oh yeas! Those things were a wet dream when they first started appearing, back in the day when I was still doing Graphic Design. If I was still active in that sector, I would have bought one for sure by now. Those things are just what you want and need for real digital drawing and illustration. Dammit, it's making me giddy again. Curse you Lottery for not having landed in my lap yet!

@Meph still considering buying one for personal use perhaps that will motivate me to make more artz in my free time
Rokay, on to the updates! My Blood Angels finally got some love I've worked on the tactical squad somewhat; giving them highlights (you gotta take my word for it cus the pictures are not really helping ), finished the weapons, putting on the transfers etc. Still need to do the bases, weathering and the sergeants banner! So hopefully I can finish them this week
Pics!
Blarg, dark pictures...
Pixelated close-up~!
Le sergeant! Still gotta decide what to do with his banner though.
Bad boys with transfers! Still need some touch ups.
So that's it for today! NO- wait, there's more....
The Tyrant is here.....
Speaking of the Tyrant, here's your request Styrofoam04! The Blackheart version of my previous Huron sketch!

They are not very different compared to the standard tactical marines methinks. The Red Thirst rule gives them some nice buffs though (Furious Charge and Fearless).
DeathzHellShotz wrote:That tactical squad makes me want to get in to a painting frenzy
Wish I could say that after highlighting 10 marines but it's good that you got inspired!

++Blood Angels update
The tactical squad is finished- well, at least I thought they were, till I found out I forgot the squad markings on the blue kneepads. Oh well! Progress pictures then!
They look so much better with some basing!
Here's a close-up of the sergeant. I've freehanded his banner and it worked out pretty well methinks
Close-up of a battle brother with paint chips on his armour.
The other dudes:
I'm pretty satisfied how they turned out not my best paintjob ever but it will suffice for tabletop!
Let me know what you guys think.

Nice stuff you got here Levi, that freehanded banner looks awesome
Those sketches of Lugft Huron (still not sure how you pronounce that) is pretty wicked too, I wonder what they'd look like back-to-back (good vs evil side style)
Have you ever tried sketching a Terminator? I tried to do that in pencil once, I ended up with a couple of menacing stacked boxes instead of a man
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Thanks!
I still don't know either I tend to leave the "g" away when I try to pronounce it and that "Lufgt" variant confuses me even more! Wonder how GeeDubs does that
Ezra Tyrius wrote:Have you ever tried sketching a Terminator? I tried to do that in pencil once, I ended up with a couple of menacing stacked boxes instead of a man
I've never drew a complete termie... yet! But mine's probably ends up like an angry toaster with skulls... lots of skulls.

Another Blood Angels update for you guys! The Death Company Dreadnought has been sitting half-done on the self for a while, so he could use some love. And I'm trying to finish stuff before starting something new...
So, painted the highlights en drybrushed the blood talons (I'm particularly proud of those) and did all the icons etc. The only thing what needs to be done is to touch up the base and put the transfers on.
Anyway, pics!
A close-up of the talon. Perhaps they could use some extra work, but the lightening of my room doesn't do it any justice though
Tell me what you guys think
32676
Post by: Meph
Wow, nice stuff you'v'e been pumping out, mate!
That dread looks very cool, although personally I feel that they could just need a little extra small and bright highlight on the tips of the talons.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
I agree on the talon. I'll add some white or very bright blue to touch it up Thanks for the comment Meph!

In other news, I've bought an old (and cheap!) half metal half plastic Cadian Sentinel kit to convert it to a killa kan for my Orks. So as soon as I've finished the dreadnought, I'll be converting the sentinel. and it will be my first time to play with plasticard! Stay tuned, I'll keep you guys updated on the progress.
88450
Post by: Leviathus
So! Another item on my ever growing painting to-do-list, done! Yes, the dreadnought is finished (well, I think he is )
Pictures for you lads and then let's move on to the next project!
The orks get a little love this time and I'll be experimenting with plasticard (oh boy). This (un)fortunate sentinel is gonna be converted to a killa kan, because, well, they're Death Skulls and have to live up their name right?
Here are some pics of the early start. Not really sure how the arms and weapons are gonna fit in...
The kit is a part plastic part metal, so some parts do not fit that well I'll have to use green stuff to fill up the gaps *sigh* anyways, this will be a nice little conversion project. Let's see how it turns out!
I will be painting stuff between this project (still need to finish the test Astral Claw!) and I have some ideas for a custom space marine chapter (one of the three sons of the Astral Claws) I would like to paint!
Stay tuned!

Blood Angels look great, but if I could offer some minor advice it would be your prep work. Some of the mould lines are still visible, which can detract a wee bit from the overall effect
88450
Post by: Leviathus
These were one of my first units I got when I just started with the hobby and I was quite indifferent about removing the mould lines back then... and they were too far done to fix 'em. But all the newer units have their mold lines removed and gun barrels drilled out!
Thank you for having a look Dreadclaw!

I made that mistake myself too manys a time. Nothing like looking at a fully painted mini and realizing there is little you can do to fix the mould line you missed Your new stuff looks significantly better
87465
Post by: Ezra Tyrius
That Killa Kan's looking good Levi, I think the arm would look best either right above the upper joint of the legs (that square looking thing above the joint), or either a bit in front of that, where the entrance hatch is located
Weapons-wise, I'd say giant sawblades of doom or giant flamers, or something else along those lines

Worked a bit further on the sentikan. The weapons are now into place (but still stuck with glue tack). I've had to trim the skorcha to fit it on the Kan. He's a bit out of balance now methinks, but perhaps a gastank or other thing on the back will fix it. On to the pics!
Next up, moar plasticard and the gretchin!
In other news, I've been thinking of a own space marine chapter for a while and I finally have an idea of what I want. So, here's the colour scheme I have for now:
It's so white! Yep, I really wanted to do something with white this time and it added a new painting challenge. The paintjob is a wee bit sloppy, but I was so eager to test it out. Anyway, still need a proper name for this chapter; something with lions, that's for sure (welp they are the descendants of the Astral Claws of course).
Let me explain the colour choices a bit. Their armour was always white with red accents, but after a devastating event (it has something to do with lots of battle brothers walking over to chaos -I'm looking a you Huron Blackheart!-) they all started to paint the shoulder pad insets black as a sign of grief and loss for their fallen and dead brothers. On the right knee pad every battle brother has the freedom to express their own personal loss by painting patterns or painting it red or black (especially the veterans since the most of them had been present at the time of the event, the new battle brothers mostly paint a red stripe). On the left knee pad, the yellow line stands for the company colour, 2nd company in this case, the IV stands for the squad number.
I'll let you guys know more about the fluff some other time (still need to think a lot of things out). For now enjoy this update! Oh, before I go, some self promotion; I've started a miniature hobby blog, it's more or less an extension of this blog, but you'll find some more information about my armies/projects. I'm sharing the box with a friend who's buying the other half (he just started Tyranids) so it's a pretty good deal. And I'm changing that dread into a furioso (still go bits laying around). Not really a fan of that captain but with some bit swaps he'll be a lot better

Choosing a name for a custom Chapter is always a diffcult task
Here's some of my suggestions:
The Lions Harrowing (or Harrowing Lions)
The Lions of Castamere
The Lion's Tears
The Bloodied Claws
I think 'the Lions of [insert planet here]' could work, but then you'd need to name a planet too

Yep, still thinking about that one. But, since their home planet is destroyed by Necrons in the current version of their fluff, I'm a bit at a loss if I should name em at all after their planet. On the other hand, the Lions couldn't know their home was doomed in the first place I was also thinking about "Lions Resplendant". It sounds a bit cheesy perhaps but it kinda fits how they were in their early years (decades?) (just as proud and imperious as the Astral Claws). Anyway, lots of stuff to think about. Thanks for the heads up my friend. If you have more ideas, feel free to pass em through

A little update on the Lions; yesterday I began to work on the chapter symbol (okay, okay you can't really have a symbol without a proper name... but hey, there is a lion in there ) Behold!
The lion is based on the chapter symbol of the White Panthers and the halo is based on the halo of the Sons of Medusa. I've just used excisting element to create a new symbol but it fits the overall theme methinks. *couch*and I'm a bit lazy*cough*

Hiya guys! Worked some more on the killa kan!
This time the roof hatch and the gretchin were done:
The gretchin still needs a handle in his hand but it looks pretty ok.
I still had some gretchin heads laying around and picked one I liked the most. I then drilled a thin pin in it and bend it so that I could sculpt his body on it with green stuff.
His muscles are not defined but you won't see much of the body anyway.
The complete picture:
The only things left to do: glueing on the remaining things like the Saw and some gubbins and the plasticard plates need some bolts to make them less plain but will do that an other time. The killa kan is nearing completion! C&C welcome!

Finally, he's done. Well for now. Still need some minor work but I'll do that next year!
For the holidays I'll be at my parents house for two weeks so I figured I could paint me some minis! I've made a small list of things I really wanna paint:
- Kromlech's Ork Wartrakk (my dads been asking me about this one for quite some time - so this one's for you dad!)
- Astral Claw assault marine test (he's almost done!)
- Lugft Huron
- Some Tyrant's Legion auxilia
- Blood Angels Death Company
Looks like a nice painting list I probably won't finish them all in two weeks but it will keep me busy! Do you guys have some mini's you wanna paint before year's end?

Here's what I'm currently working on: the Ork halftrack of Kromlech! My count-as wartrakk
I'm really having a blast with this one! Lots of gubbinz and cables. Currently the bulk of the metal is shaded and the blue parts are now blocked out (some are already shaded and highlighted). Still gotta do the white parts and checkers an all the other tiny stuff, but that will be done lastly.
There's still a lot of work to be done, but I'm getting there
And I got some hobby stuff for Christmas:
Hurray! More cannonfodder for the Tyrant! I er- mean more loyal servants!

I like to call them 'Da Ruff Ridaz', as they use the local fauna as a means of transportation (that is, when it doesn't eat them)
Also, for some reason, I sort of want to see a 'looted' Lufgt Huron, where the Orks bring him back to life rather than the forces of Chaos

The Tyrant awoke. He felt the numbness of his body slowly subside as it was brought back from its slumber. How long had he been gone? He remembered his final battle on Badab, the Melta-gun tearing its way through his flesh, rendering him crippled, broken and.... dead?
And yet he was waking, rising once more from the eternal sleep. But however numb the anaesthetics had made him, something felt... wrong.
With a painful shock, the right side of his body began creaking and moaning, strange machinery setting even stranger mechanical parts in motion. The right side of his head began feeding him seemingly random pieces of information, unfamiliar codes and signs flashing in his vision. Confused, he searched for something, anything he recognized in the alien language racing through his mind.
He opened his eyes, terrified by the knowledge of what had come to pass. His eyes kept widening as he looked at the hulking monstrosity his body had become. The numbness in his chest, finally fading completely, let out a terrible scream of despair;
"WHAT DA ZOG HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!"
"Uhm, Boyz, I think da Boss is up..."
Meanwhile, somewhere in the depths of the Warp, the laughter of a cunning god echoed in the halls of its domain...
My contribution to the glorious rise of Black'eart, Warboss of da Red Corsairz!

I... I... must do this... the Ork in me demands a conversion...!! And I already have a good idea what he will look like TO THE DRAWINGBOARD!
Anyway, on to the update!
Took a little break from painting this morning and sat down to assemble the command squad for the Tyrant's Legion. Visually the command squad doesn't match with the command detatchment described in the first Badab War book. I need bodyguards and a prefect, but it's okay for now, I'll expand the command squad later. I used this kit for the variation it gives. It has a medic and lots of fun bits to make the guardsmen more unique.
Pics:
This one was quite a task. I had to file all the markings off of the flag so I can freehand the Tyrant's Legion symbol on there. It's still a wee bit visible but that won't be a problem when there's some paint on (I hope).

Hello guys! Here's an update of the wartrakk. I'm close to finishing it! Luckely the shooting ork is done. His companion is still left and the wheels and some gubbins need to be done. Enjoy!
And Ezra, I already have some awesome ideas for Warboss Black'eart! I was thinking of some Kromlech Ork armour:
- or perhaps even this one: http://bitsofwar.com/home/242-orc-warchief-in-juggeranut-mecha-armour.html

Yes! I knew my insane ramblings would one day lead to something awesome!
Now if only I had as much talent for painting as I apparently have for writing fiction
(Also, when I read 'To the drawingboard!', I heard a Space Marine shout 'To the rally point!' inside my head instead. I may or may not be going insane. Or I'm playing too much Dawn of War.)

It will be done sir! and I already ordered some stuff for the warboss! (Oh dear, this is gonna mess up my painting schedule ) I also have an idea what his alternate Hamadrya will be. A squig with the ability to manifest psychic powers (due to a brain transplant with a wierdboy thanks to the genius of da Dok) it can channel the powers to Huron through an entenna on its head.
Yep... this conversion project's gonna be awesome! Waagh! Black'eart is on its way! Da green are greenest alone! ...or something like that.

Okay, a quick update before I go to bed. Been working on my Astral Claws some more! Still very WIP though. The metals of his body are almost done but his right arm and backpack need some highlights. And I've been attempting to wet blend the chainsword (black to a grey-ish colour) but it wasn't so succesful as I hoped, but we'll keep on trying till we get it right!
(And who's that in the back? Lugft? Yep, I couldn't resist giving him some colour )
Thanks for looking!

Post by: Leviathus
Hi guys! Finished the Astral Claw The lighting influences the paint job a bit, but it's still okay to see methinks.
I've done a bit blending on the chainsword, it's a bit subtle on the photo, but will definitely use the technique on my next models, with some improvements of course.
The transfers on the shoulder pads gave me a headache though. Especially the chapter symbol didn't wrap nicely around the shoulder pad. Still managed to get an okay result, but I hope it will go better next time. Perhaps some of you have some tips for applying transfers on a shoulder pad?
In other news, my order from Kromlech came in yesterday! Armour for Warboss Huron Black'eart!
And he's a MONSTA! I'm really excited to get started with this project. I need to order lots of other bits still, but the project is underway! His left arm has a big shoota now, but obviously he's getting an arm with a big choppa to mimic his Chaos version. I'm still keeping the shooty arm for him in case he needs some extra dakka!

That be great Ezra! The Warhammer 40k wikia has a lengthy article about Huron, so that's worth a read. Personally I don't like Wikia wiki's since they have lots of speculation and made up stuff there but from what I've read they mainly get their info from Imperial Armour vol 9 and 10 of the Badab War and the novels about Blackheart, so that's good!
Just keep in mind, Huron likes big guns (dakka dakka!), is not afraid to sacrifice a human here and there (or ork in this matter) to achieve his goals, is a briljant strategist and a wee bit power hungry... just a bit... no seriously....
In other words, the perfect warboss

Good evening everyone! To show you I'm not slacking off I have some pics to show you of what I'm painting these days
The Blood Angels are getting some love again. Last week a couple of friends and myself were playing against each other in an epic battle of Space Wolves with Blood Angels vs Chaos Marines! The Death Company served me well in crumpstomping some summoned daemons, so I figured they could use some paint! These models have been laying around for a while now, so it's about time. On to the pics:
Apologies for the crappy photo quality but I was in a hurry. This power fist guys is nearly done, the other guys on the back are basecoated and have some washes. Tell me what you guys think!
In other news; I didn't have any time to work on warboss Black'eart last week and I'm still waiting for some bits and kits (hurry it up GW! Stop nagging my FLGS!). On the other hand I want to start the project with a big bang (make some artwork for it etc.) so I need a little more time to prepare things. You guys have to wait a wee bit longer. But it's gonna be a blast so stay tuned!

Also, more Black'eart fanfiction!
With a terrifying roar Huron grabbed the first Ork in sight with the enormous steel claw that had been crudely melded unto his body and snapped it half, throwing its torso into the crowd in front of him. His entire body pulsated as the machinery whirred into life, sparks flying in all directions. With a mighty swing he sent five Orks hurtling into the air, before charging the massive horde of greenskins in front of him.
He hacked, slashed, stomped and crushed his way through the Orks, his rage fuelling the carnage. He was halfway through ripping a Nob's head of when he noticed something strange: the shouting, screaming was... off. No sense of panic could be deduced out of it. The Orks were a warlike species, but even they knew fear and pain at some point.
That's when he realized something.
The shouting, the screaming, it wasn't out of despair or panic.
They were cheering him on.
...Orks will be Orks after all

@Camkierhi @Meph @angelofvengance: Thanks a lot guys!
@Nashbashem: You asked for it
Right, let’s kick this off officially. Behold the rise of da stompiest Warboss of the GrimDark™!
WAAAGH! BLACK'EART
Da Tyrant of Badab, da Blood Reava, Boss of da Maelstrom, Masta of da Red Corsairz
+++++
+++Vox message fragment recovered
+++Last recorded location of sender: near the Maelstrom zone
+++Fragment begins+++
The rumours we have been receiving of increased Ork activity in the Maelstrom Zone are true. The rumours of Grimtoof's Death Skulls, a splinter group of the Ruff Ridaz and several minor Freeboota clans banding together are true. But I fear it's far worse than that. They apparently flocked under the banner of a more powerful warlord. W-we've heard a name. The ships we've encountered only dared to whisper it. The Orks call hi-
[Missing segment]
Our fleet was attacked by them not long ago. A rather organised attack. The foul Xenos appeared out of nowhere it seemed. Our sister ship was slightly ahead of us and was the first to fall -she was carrying supplies for the Imperial Guard, how did they know? While the Orks raided her, more of them appeared and began to attack our flanks. They were operating with extraordinary ferocity and...to an extent, tactical discipline. If we weren’t in this dire situation I’d probably laugh at myself right now, but that’s how it was. While the Orks tried to board our spacecraft, we received several confusing vox messages coming from the Orks themselves. They were chanting a name. We quickly realised in what kind of situation we were in, so we transferred all our power from the guns to the main drivers to attempt a warp-jump. The Orks withdrew but they were barely gone or the vox crackled again. It was a deep and rasping voice and it spoke in perfect Low Gothic.
"Know this worm; your Empire is dead."
The vox died abruptly and we successfully made a warp-jump and escaped.
Now we've been drifting in the warp for the Emperor knows how long. We're lost, trapped in this endless hell hole. That vox message is still spiralling through my head. And that name... That name that the Orks chanted...
"Huron Black'eart"
Why does that name sound so familiar?
+++Fragment ends+++
+++++
Right, wots diz den?
For all of you who don’t know what this fuss is all about: Waaagh! Black’eart is a conversion project! It’s an alternate take on the birth of Huron Blackheart. This time he is not saved by Chaos, but by Orks and chosen by Gork and Mork to drown the Maelstrom in endless Waaagh! (and steal a planet here and there to satisfy his own greed)! Sparked by the insane ramblings of fellow Dakkanaut Ezra Tyrius (see page 5) and it’s my task to convert and paint ‘em! So, sit back and enjoy the ride. I hope it’s gonna be an awesome one and that my conversion *cough*skills*cough* are up to the task!
Wots da plan boss?
Besides Huron Black’eart himself, here’s what’s coming more:
- A squig (the alternate Hamadrya) I call him Hammy for now ;
- Painboy Gutzsnik, who fixed up da boss;
- 1 Nob with Waaagh! Banner;
- 4 Red Corsair Boyz;
So! Most of the bitz and kits are in (still waiting for the squig, the Waaagh! banner and some bases though).
Next step: wash and scrub all the resin parts and start on the Bosspole! Stay tuned folks! The project starts now!
So get yer Orks ready galz and ladz and join Waaagh! Black’eart!
(I let your Orks join in for convenience sake Ezra, and I don’t even know if they reside near the Maelstrom or not )
87465
Post by: Ezra Tyrius
IT BEGINS!
Can't wait to see how they turn out, especially Huron himself (although the squig certainly caught my attention as well - a rather fitting steed for the man )!
The Waagh!'s icon is pretty pimpin' as well, your computer-aided drawing skills never cease to amaze
And the Ruff Ridaz are more than happy to join Huron, as long as they get their share of the loot (I hadn't really decided what system they were from yet, thanks for solving that little issue for me by the way )
Oh, and one more thing.
JUST AS PLANNED.

Post by: Leviathus
Cheers Ezra! Really excited to start with the project myself
The squig acts more like a familiar, giving Huron awesomesauce psychic powers, thanks to a brain transplant

!!Pic heavy update!!
Hello guys! It's been a while since I posted some updates. Real Life( tm) kicked me in the butt and had no motivation to hobby at all last month. But even bad things come to an end and I'm kicking things back into gear!
I worked on several projects last two weeks; painting and converting wise! Check it out below!
Painting:
Gretchins! Still a lot of WIP here but they are coming along nicely. The weapons are as good as done and I'm blocking in the blue colour and all the cloth needs to be basecoated. Pics!
Like I said, they are still work in progress as I got distracted by this guy:
When I saw the Lizardmen in a GW catalogue back in 2006, I fell in love with the models and the bright colours they have! I always wanted to paint some and I finally bought a box of Temple Guards. I don't know if I'm gonna play Warhammer Fantasy... you know with all dem rumours about the 9th and particulary the ones about the Lizzies... but painting a few won't hurt right? Had fun painting this guy, but it's really some thing else than painting Orks and Space Marines!
Conversions:
Yes, besides painting I've worked on some conversions too! First up; Corien Sumatris, captain of the Astral Claws 2nd Company, the Tyrant's Champion. I had a cool idea for this guy a few days ago and wanted to try it out! Everything is held together with glue tack so the proportions might be a bit off, but it gives you a good idea what he's gonna look like. He still needs a servo arm on his backpack with attached bolter and I'm gonna try to sculpt a fur cloak for him. Still not sure about his head choice though... I do want him to be bare headed (I think that helmeted characters tend to get a bit bland) but I'm still on the look out for a better one.
And last but not least.... Huron Black'eart, warboss of the Red Corsairs! BEHOLD!
His boss pole and trophy pole done with some awesomesauce MasterTools chains! Got some green stuffin' to do for the cables and gotta make his head look like he's actually in the suit.
And now some pics with arms and custom made gubbinz!
KAPOW! Looking brutal (and kunnin'). It was a tricky job to sculpt a proper jaw piece since his head is so tiny!
This thing on his back is a psychic energy converter (it's gonna be a bit different later but this is just a scale test). His pet squig is able to transfer psychic energy to Huron so he can manifest certain psychic powers without loosing his mind. (Pretty spiffy huh?!)
But I'm still not sure about the size... It looks pretty big and it makes him even more top heavy then he already is. So I have to see if I can fix that. Pics from an other angle:
With legs:
See what I mean? He's quite top heavy. So I hope I can tone it down a bit. But then again, he looks like a real monster now! Perhaps you guys have some ideas or tips on that thing on his back?
Last pic for today; a Red Corsair Boy! Of course if you are a bunch of space pirates, someone must have a wooden leg!
So! Enjoy the updates and thanks for watching! And as always, C&C welcome!

Fantastic work Levi! Glad that real life (as in Huron, who noticed you weren't working like a good little slave) managed to release its hold on you for a while
Speaking of the glorious bastard, I like how Black'eart is coming along, not sure how you could fix the top-heavy problem though. Maybe he could be leaning on a wall, his hand resting on a broken doorway in a 'Here's Johnny!' kind of way?
I feel like he could use a bit more human elements though, he's a bit all Ork-tech at the moment (which isn't bad of course, given the situation )
Your other models are looking pretty damn sweet as well, Corien Sumatris really sells the 'Tyrant's Champion' look
I personally like the head, it has a great expression of pure rage on it

Welp, my initial idea was that Huron was placed in a dreadnought-like suit, but he's free to move his head so his not a sardine in a tin can (da Dok actually had to chop off his good leg to make him fit in ). So that's why he's all techy-like. I could drop that jaw armour thing I sculpted so his head would be more visible.

Hello guys! Time for another update! This time, painted bases from Dark Arts Miniatures, for my Astral Claws. The quality of the casts is suberb and there are lot's of details and I'm really happy with them.
They are still a bit bare but I want to add grass tufts and other things after I glued on the Astral Claws themselves. Anyway on to the pics!

I gave him a basecoat with boltgun metal (in my case leadbelcher) then a overall wash with nuln oil, then gradually highlighted him with ironbreaker (chainmail) and then highlighted the edges with runefang (mirthril).

Those are some gorgeous grotz! You even took the time to add some great details like the streaked horn effect on the helmet horns and a nice shiny glass effect for the goggles.
I also like the metallic technique you used on them. Simple, but the highlighting makes it jump out.
Great work! Now, if you would just ditch those worthless beakies and focus on the greenskins, this would be an A+ blog! Ha ha.

Dem poor beakies!
Thanks for the comment Riddle! Like I said, probably spend too much time on these buggers but doing the details was so much fun! Glad you like them!
Oh and I'll be definitely following your blogspot blog!

I'm glad you checked out my blog. It's been pretty slow going these past couple of months as I've been working on my Mega Trukk, my most ambitious project so far.
When are you going to start painting that awesome sentinel kan conversion? The face reminds me of something IronDog would do (in a good way)! I can't wait to see it finished.

The sentikan is next on the Ork painting list. I can't give an exact date though too much on my plate atm.
Good evening everyone! Got a small update for you guys. I've worked on some boys for Waaagh! Black'eart
They are just the snap fit ones so nothing really special. I might give the bare headed ork a bandana or an eye patch just to emphesise the pirate part a bit.
I used some bases from Dark Arts Miniatures to make it look like their in a spaceship hunting for loot!
And here are some WIP shots of Huron's pet squig
With that fancy antenna he's able to tranfer psychic energy to da boss (just like his Hamadrya counter part... only wee bit different). I'm not really sure about the space marine helmet... should I keep it?
In other news, I'm hopping on the Skitarii bandwagon and I'm preparing my own small allied force of Ad Mech! The painting scheme is going to be the Forge World Metalica one. I really liked the white robes and I think it really pops on the table! So, here's a work in progress of my test Skitarii Ranger:
Holy moly! So many fiddely bits! I'm too used to space marines and orks Anyway, I'm stoked about this release and can't wait till I have my own little force!
Oh and does this colour scheme look familiar to you? Welp, I used it on one of my test marines to test out a scheme for my homebrew chapter (a few pages ago) I'm starting to dislike it, I think it doesn't work as well on space marines as it does on the Skitarii. But I already have a new idea for my own chapter and gonna test it out in the near future (and they finally have a name!). So stay tuned for that
Thanks for looking guys!

Sorry been awhile.
Excellent stuff, love the orks, of course I am bias. Keep the helmet, all good squigs should have a chew toy.
Skit looks great, I like the colours myself, great job on the paintwork.

Thanks a lot for the comment Cam!
Alright, worked on project Waaagh! Black'eart some more. This time, it's a Ork Nob honoured to carry the Waaagh! Banner.
He was fun one to put together. I used the flag from a fantasy Ork kit and had to cut off the choppy part of the Big Choppa and put them together. A simple conversion but I like how he came out!
Here's a group shot with da boyz! Say Waaaagh!
Right, I need your help again guys I've been busy with Hurons claw and I wanted to give him a flamer just like the Huron Blackheart model. So I tried to make something with plasticard tubes... but I'm not really pleased with it:
It's a bit "meh" and it's not very practical as he can't even close his claw properly so I might drop the idea. And just slapping a flamer on that arm was not really an option as there is not much room for extra dakka.
But then I looked at his left arm, the big shoota:
I think this one lends it self very well to become a flamer! His load-out will look more like the one Huron had when he was still a loyalist, but I think it will look better and make more sense.
So, what do you guys think? Should I keep the claw flamer or chop up that big shoota?

Post by: Camkierhi
Add the flamer ala Spiderman, small tank on inside of forearm, nozzle mounted slightly lower on the wrist. An dthe bit you are missing is a primer, small pilot light thingy, bit of bent wire will do.
That big shoota is too awesome to chop up.
But it is your call.
Love the banner carrier.

Thanks for your input Cam! I've been thinking about that idea too but I'm not sure if I can make it work. But I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again!

Here's a little painting update. The test Skitarii Ranger is done!
He was a fun one to paint albeit a little tricky sometimes (fiddely bitz and all). Only downside; I had to free hand all the markings on his robe and will have to do that again for the rest of the lot *gulp*.
But I can't wait to do the rest of 'em! I did give em a martian base although he's actually from the Forge World Metalica and their planet has a metal surface. But I thought a red underground would contrast the white robes better and his metalic feet would also be better visible.
C&C always welcome and thanks for stopping by!

Cheers my friend!
And update on the Waaagh! Black'eart conversion:
Welp, here he is then, the big boss himself is done! It feels like I've been working on Huron for ages but when you add up the time I've spent on it, it isn't all that much.
There are some things in this project that I could have done better. Especially the flamer in his hand (dropped that idea as you can see and chopped up the gun instead- sorry Camkierhi!!!! ). I really wanted to mirror the Chaos version of Huron but my conversion skillz were not really up for the task and I was afraid it might ruin the claw all together.
Close-up pics:
In the end, the flamer looks pretty good methinks.
All that boring grey plastic and resin irks me to no end so I can't wait to paint this guy and see him in full glory! So I will basecoat and start painting these guys asap and they will all look so much better
In other news, GW released some new Adeptus Mechanicus stuff (I'll soon have a small allied force of Skitarii on my own ) namely the Kastelan Robots. Now, I didn't like them at first but they grow on you I guess. Yes, they do look a bit out of place next to all the other Ad Mech stuff, but I take that for granted (they are ten thousand years old machinery you know ). Those heads on the other hand, are terrible and look very goofy! So, since I want a couple of these buggers in my Ad Mech force, I've started to think about a way to fix this obvious gripe.
Forge Wold has some excellent Ad Mech stuff so I dropped by their site for some inspiration. The Thanatar Siege-Automata and Castellax Battle-Automata the caught my interest.
I really like those bronze "heads" and to tie the Kastelans more to Forge World's releases, I'll be going for that look. My idea is to keep the heads nice and clean looking. Here's a sketch I made from that idea:
I think this idea could work and is not that hard to pull off conversion wise. So wadda you guys think? Let me know!

Well the big guys looking pretty awesome. Even if you did chop up a beautiful gun. Flamer looks good though.

Hiya guys! Last Sunday I started converting the dreaded Kastelan Robot heads Not the hardest job fortunately. On to the pics!
So first up, I began my work on the greenstuff:
Second, some plasticard is glued on...
and I cut some small pieces to function as bolts.
Current result:
Aww, look at 'em, they're almost cute. Still need to sand the greenstuff a bit more to get an even and smooth coverage. So, last thing to do; the air vents. For now, I find them a bit "meh" but it's hard to tell how they are going to look when finished since they're still WIP.
Anyways, I'll try to finish the heads this weekend!
C&C welcome!

Heya guys! Painted some Blood Angels for a competition.

I've changed the basing style this time. The previous brown stone base didn't work very well, so I went with the grey stones for better contrast.
Thanks for looking!

Those Assault marines look great! The highlights really make it pop a bit more, as does the base
How'd you paint the yellow for the helmets by the way? It looks pretty amazing, especially in combination with the reds (kind of makes me want to see you paint an Imperial Fist though )
88450
Post by: Leviathus
Thank you Ezra!
The yellow is as follows:
- Averland Sunset (thin the heck out of this thing, it gets chalky very easily);
- Overall wash with Reikland Fleshshade;
- Clean up with Averland;
- Mix Averland with White scar, or any white for that matter, for the edge highlights (2/1 mix);
- Mix Averland again with a white (1/2 mix) and do the tips of the edges;
- Done, and done!
How's life going Ez? Did you have time to do some hobbying?

Wow, that's quite the process Going to have to try that some time
Life-wise, well... I study architecture, I don't have a life Been picking up some second-hand Chaos goodies for my The Remnants warband though, trying to save those poor Chaos marines from ending up in a bin somewhere
I'll get an update out one of these days, if I don't go mad the coming weeks; exams aren't the best time of year for wargaming!

Hello everyone! So, the Sanguinary Priest is done. The white armour came out a lot better then I expected fortunately! And I'm particularly proud of his cloak.
On to the pictures~!
I used some GW's Blood for the Blood God technical paint to get the blood effect on the chalice. Mind you, it looks better and more blood-like in real life
Next up, I want to paint my Furioso Dreadnought! After that, the Blood Angels get a little break and I will continue to paint Waaagh! Black'eart and some of my Deathskulls Orks In the mean time, the Skitarii mini army will get assembled in one go (still gotta get me two Dunecrawlers though), so that they are ready to get painted too! (I hope to finish them this year *gulp*)
Thanks for looking!

Cheers fellas! Thanks for the support!
Alright, a small update of what I've been up to:
I'm finally starting to assemble my Skitarii in earnest now. And as you can see I've already put a few together. The unit of five Ruststalkers (the black ones in the front) are done and already primed. I will hold off painting the Skitarii 'till Waaagh! Blackheart is out of the way though. So you will see updates of grey plastic for a while. Please bear with me.
On a side note, I will be magnetising a lot of stuff and do little conversion work here and there, so I hope these post will be interesting and informative for you guys. Perhaps my findings and little how-to's will help out my fellow gamers!
And as for Waaagh! Blackheart:
The Boyz are coming along nicely! They are nearly done, 'cept for a few highlights, checkers (the white parts) and the bases. Better pictures will come when they are finished!
Stay tuned for more and thanks for looking!

Warning: loads of pictures!
Got some updates on the Skitarii and Waaagh! Black'eart for you guys:
Da Red Corsair are finished!! I''m still trying to find the right set-up of the light box for the pictures so some are better then others. Enjoy none the less!
A close-up of one of the bases. Again, excellent bases from Dark Arts Miniatures!
There are a few more images on my gallery
----
As for the Skitarii, I've assembled the Tech-Priest Dominus!
I also did a little conversion; He got a robot claw from the Infiltrators/Ruststalkers box instead of his hand that was holding a rod (also known as the pimp-cane). I thought it was weird having him lean on two staves. Now it looks like he's pointing malevolently at his next target. Much better IMHO!
On to the magnetized parts...
When you drill the Tech-Priest you have to be careful not to drill through his thin arms (especially the ones holding the pistols). Fortunately it isn't something you can't fix with green stuff, but it can save you some time. Here are the two area's I've put the other magnets in:
Magnetizing is always an extra step, but I'm glad I did it. No more proxying for me!
Anwyays, next up for the orks: the Nob with Waaagh! Banner! As for the Skitarii, the Kastelan Robots will be next. The Tech-Priest Dominus is ready to get primed!
Stay tuned for more and thanks for looking!

Thank you for the comment Cam!
Okay, now for something completely different:
I've bought a Imperial Knight quite some time ago. My plan was to make it a Freeblade knight who is not part of a knightly house. But I didn't had a good feel of how the colour scheme would be, so it gathered dust somewhere in my room. But yesterday it suddenly it hit me on how my Knight would look. So would love to hear your oppinions!
The colour scheme is not really one that you would expect to see on a knight:
PSYCH!!
Yes, Dark Eldar. Now, as much as I dislike these pesky elves, I totally dig dem colours and I think, with a few alterations, they would look smashing on a knight!! So today I took a knight picture off of Google and quickly edited it in Photoshop. The real model is going to be a bit more blue-ish but this will give you an idea how it's going to look like:
Mind you, all the heraldry is removed on this picture but there will be custom heraldry on the shield, banner, shoulder pads and the legs. And with that in mind I thought those red stripes made him perhaps a bit too busy, so for the second one I toned it down a bit:
Here's my initial idea! So what do you guys think? Will it work on a knight? Are the red stripes on his back and upper legs too much?

Okidoki! I've finished Huron's pet squig (the alternate Hamadrya- I think I will call him Hammy) last week! Oh boy this little fella was fun to paint! The details on this model are amazing.
I tried to do some fancy pants OSL on this model as he's charging up some psychic powers. With some Lahmian Medium I blend Lothern Blue with the red. For depth I used Drakenhof Nightshade sparingly. Then mixed Lorthern with white to do the highlights and pure white for the eyes. I had to wet blend the antenna with water as I didn't have any Lahmian at hand then, but it worked just as well. On to the pics:
With Hammy done now, I can work on Huron himself! So project Waaagh! Black'eart is nearing it's end!
Thanks for looking guys and C&C welcome!
