I got a present in the post from THQ this morning, which was kind of them. It was a miniature, in a standard GW box, but what was more interesting was stuck to the back of the box outside the shrinkwrap - this label:

The model was... a Chaos terminator lord. I think it is a very safe assumption that chaos are coming in 2010 (MMX)! Some new levels with some variance would be most welcome and I'm really looking forward to the horde mode as well.

Well, Relic sure know how to tease us. Looking foward to it!

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. I was pissed off at relic for putting 2 horde races in DoW 2, but if Chaos is the new expansion, I'll probably end up buying it.

P.S. Was it a GW Terminator Lord? Or a special edition one?

The standard GW terminator lord plastic kit. It was actually on my shopping list anyway which made it all the better.

Here's hoping for some nurgle in the expansion at least too.

Isn't it awesome that you didn't get an empty little mystery box with a sign saying "everything you know is a lie!"

Relic and THQ are much better at promoting and stirring excitement about upcoming releases than GW...

I figure they'll add a fourth HQ to each race. With any luck, Chaos will get a lord of Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch. These would all unlock a different army tree.

Incentive to reinstall soontime, methinks. I wish they had campaigns for each race though, that would put the icing on the cake.

awww some people get all the luck! I want a free Chaos Lord and love from THQ!

personally Im not 2 sure bout Chaos in the game, i feel they may play too similar to Space Marines, i reckon Tau and IG would be better...

well my iron warriors colour scheme for the Space Marines can soon go down the drain too!

how bout this 4 a multiplayer tier system tho:

all infantry units can be given certain marks (maybe which could only be taken if the hero/hq has the same 1):
Mok - Improved melee (maybe waaagh type ability?)
MoN - suppression resistance
MoS - Quicker (speed and melee)
MoT - enemy less accurate when shooting em' fire accurately when moving?

Heros:
1 - Chaos Lord - Support, like apoth' or farseer
2 - Chaos Sorcerer - Magic-etc. (like Eldar warlock)
3 - Daemon Prince - Melee Specialist

Tier 1:
1 - CSM Squad - upgrades - plasma, flamer + power weapon (which would change the squad 2 equip CCW's) however
2 - Havocs - heavy bolter, autocannon (tier 2 upgrade which is anti-cover + vehicle), missile launcher (tier 2)
3 - Raptors - power weapon and/or fist
4 - Khorne Bezerkers - would cost requisition and kill points (instead of power) - power weapon and/or fist
tier 2:
1 - Plague Marines - Plasma, flamers, power weapon
2 - Chaos Dreadnought - has charge ability, upgrade 2 autocannon - either weaker than SM one or cost more...
3 - Possessed - Special abilities (randomize?!), eg. frenzy, infiltrate, rending...
4 - Obliterator - Teleport, change from flamers to plasma cannon or MM ( i dont think the modelled meltaguns 4 a reason tho...)
tier 3:
1- Noise Marines - attack similar 2 wailing doom yet A LOT less powerful, ability 2 supress infantry without setup for short period
2 - Thousand Sons - Move and shoot, has sorcerer that can upgrade 2 simulate cover, teleport or do wind of chaos attack
3 - Defiler - powerful at range + CC
4- Maybe move obliterator to tier 4

race/kill point abilities: summon lesser daemons, frenzy-type ability, summon GD, create cracks in ground (wrath of the gods and watnot) to do area of effect damage

just putting it out there 4 thought (and to satisfy my imagination!) and 2 make other Chaos generals drool!

I wonder what the second race in the expansion would be. I'm quite happy to see chaos, hopefully we'll get to see some guard in there for them to square off against. The game needs a horde based ranged force.

Was there any rumor of there being a second race added in this expansion? Let's not forget that the first expansion to Dawn of War only introduced the Imperial Guard.

I think they are too close to Space Marines as well. I would rather see Necrons or totally new race.

I used to be very active on the DoWII forums before the game came out. Chaos fans were pitching tantrums like you wouldn't believe when the 4th and final race was finally announced as Tyranids. "D*8< BUT, BUT IT'S NOT 40K WITHOUT CHAOS!!@!&#!" pretty much sums up their collective pathetic conniption.

Relic's response was that they were currently working on Chaos as the first race to be released in an expansion. They said that it would be released solo because they intended to put a lot of time and effort into making Chaos all that it should be... Interpret that how you will.

The only way I can see Guard actually being somewhat fun to play with/against in DoWII is if it's part of an Inquisition force.

Given the reliance on heroes, etc that DoWII has?
Guard would be at a huge disadvantage against anything barring a Kommando Nob force or a Lictor Force.

Now...if we could get an Inquisition force?
One of each Inquisitor, with their "Special" unit being the Chamber Militant(Malleus--Grey Knights, Xenos--Deathwatch, Hereticus--Sisters of Battle), with Stormtroopers and Inducted Guard Squads as the standard force?

I could see that working.

Chaos is a pretty obvious choice to go with and I think it will be fun to play. I don't play the game online so I hope they do a really solid campaign for them. I'd hate to just play the DoWII campaign with spikey Blood Ravens.

Khorne and tzeentch are played out. Slaanesh is unlikely to ever make it into a game as the primary ideology, so that leaves nurgle. I'd love to see a nurgle themed force, with average range and close combat ability, but an even tougher army then regular marines.

Honestly I'd rather Necrons than Guard. THQ did get Guard right in the last game, so I can't see them doing this time around.

They did necrons right too, better than the tabletop version in my opinion. So what's the difference?
