This battle is part on the ongoing discussion. link...
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/267269.page
I get my friend, who is admittally newer to game, to drop his Drop Dread army.
Game is Capture and Control with Pitched Battle deployment.
His list...
Vulkan
Master of the Forge
x4 dreads with MM/ PF/ HF in drop pods
x5 termies TH/ SS
x2 10 man Tactical MM/flamer in drop pods
x1 9 man Sternguard with flamer in drop pod
Drop pods all had locator beacons.
My list...
Farseer- Bike, Fortune, Mindwar, Runes of Warding, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones 180 pts
x10 Warlocks on bikes-x6 Destructor, x2 Enhance, x2 Embolden 550 pts
Farseer- Bike, Fortune, Mindwar, Doom, Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones 190 pts
x10 Warlocks on bikes-x6 Destructor, x2 Enhance, x2 Embolden 550 pts
x3 Guardian Jetbikes x1 Shuriken Cannon 76 pts
x3 Guardian Jetbikes x1 Shuriken Cannon 76 pts
x3 Guardian Jetbikes x1 Shuriken Cannon 76 pts
x3 Guardian Jetbikes x1 Shuriken Cannon 76 pts
x3 Guardian Jetbikes x1 Shuriken Cannon 76 pts
He wins roll and decides to go first. :( I reserve whole army.
Turn 1 and 2
He spends turns 1 and 2 moving around setting up castles around objectives. Vulcan, MotF, tactical, x2 dreads around mine and rest, minus termies and dread, around his.
My 2nd
Both Councils and x2 bike squads come in. I turbo boost one council to center of table, send bike squad towards my left flank in cover. I send 2nd council to clean my objective off. 2nd bike squad goes to center, turbo boosting. 2nd council lays down Destructors and TL Cats fire causing 38 wounds to Vulcan squad. Vulkan takes wound, MotF ok, Tact Sgt and flamer live. I charge squad, drop pod and dread. Dread pops, drop pod pops, tactical wiped. He causes 3 Inv saves and I save them. He makes LD tests.
His 3rd...
He drops another dread by his objective, move dread to fire flamer and MM at council. Causes 3 saves, I fail 1. CC by my objective... MotF and Vulcan cause 4 wounds, that I save. I do nothing to him.
My 3rd...
My x3 bike squads come in (turbo boosting). I shoot bikes at his far back tactical, he loses one. I charge x2 dreads, drop pods x3. All explode or wreck.
His 4th...
He fires at my center bike squad. Center bike squad takes a wound and breaks. He rapid-fires at Council and Farseer takes wound.
My 4th...Bikes fail to regroup and fall back 6", I shoot and kill x2 more tactical, I kill off Vulkan. Council charges tactical and wipes it out.
To be contined...

His 5th... Termies finally come down. His tactical takes 2nd story. Shoots at bike killing one and they break. Termies run to redeploy.
My 5th...Both broken bike squads regroup. Squad moves in to control my objective. I failed to Doom his termies, I drop Destructors and get 1 termie. I charge and get another one. Termies kill a warlock. I kill off his drop pods by my objective in a risky move, as his closet pod explodes and he could have wounded bikes holding my objective. He failed to wound them.
His 6....He shoots at closet bike squad doing nothing. I kill 2 termies in HtH. He causes 1 one which I save, he breaks and I run them down.
My 6... He concedes.

Cithomps - Really, he posts a batrep about the effectiveness of his idea to field to max councils and your comment is about the cans?
Interesting idea Old Man Ultramarine, one council is annoying enough, but you are shoving two of them down people throats.
I mainly worry about the troops, as they are brittle. However, I understand the idea is that they will be to worried about the councils to do much of anything else.

I don't know...I wouldn't call an almost all pod hvy army a good opponent to test a list against.
The usage of the list was what anyone would expect of a list with 2 flashy hammers and a bunch of 3 man MEQ's.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I must first admit that my buddy is still very raw at game.
He should have gone 2nd. By going first he almost guarantees 1st wave does nothing. Then he comes over by my objective and allows me a charge, if I arrive. (which I did)
I will coach him up and correct his errors next game by discussing tactics before he moves figs.
I will admit I did some risky things this game. Going un-Fortuned into charge of Vulkan and MotF. x3-4 str 6 PW and x2 PF attacks. Escaped unscathed.
Yes, bikes are very brittle. I will have to think it over.
Automatically Appended Next Post: He forgot his LRC at home. So he went back to his old list of Drop Dread.
He was less than impressed by my 38 wound shooting phase turn 2.
Yes, list was sub-optimal, but I said this would be one of the opponents.
He will play better lists next 2-3 games. Librarian with Null Zone and LRC for those termies, which will be 8 strong or 7 with Pedro and Librarian. Sternguard list next...

Like I suggested:
Try combining the GJB squads, shifting over a warlock or two from the councils to the GJB, then drop remaining odd Warlock/GJB squads for a pair of prisms.
Works out to a more balanced force IMO.
But do continue with the MSU list, more reports and more experience can only be a good thing.

Yes, I know, as I did this earlier in year before 'Ard Boyz. I KNOW that works. I trying to prove a point with this list. Can x2 full blown Councils and minimal troop squads get it done.

The list looks quite interesting with two full Jetseer units.
I'd consider replacing the Jetbikes by troops in Serpents for anti-tank.

That was suggested as well in his original army list thread Wuestenfux.
But as he repeated, the point was to use this min/maxed list.
Though back to the army... wow, how I wish I could use terminator base/small flying based Guardian Jetbikes, I'd be all over them.../sigh.

Yea, but being smaller based allows them to actually hide, which then makes them only scared of bassies and WWs of that list.
But larger means more turbo boosting and less hits.../shrug.
Both have pros and cons, but the army looks so different when bases are involved.
I've even seen jetbike armies on the rounded cav/biker bases...all the same army 5ish different bases...I think GW should just announce which to use IMO.

great lists! I was about to comment that you guys drink a lot of soda during games until I realized they were the drop pods...
just a comment..when a marine player breaks I do not think you can sweep them. With ATSKNF, if you catch them they are not wiped out but rather suffer extra wounds as if they were fearless, and the CC continues till the next turn if the marine player makes his saves...

And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it. |

Given that the termies benefit from ATSKNF, I assume you mean they failed their leadership, got caught and failed the two no-retreat wounds?
