When did these go up? Notice the Basilisk gun is the same old sprue, kind of hoped it would be a combined artillery kit.

Basilisk has a new chassis, but the rest is the S.O.S. and best of all, no heavy bolter is included for some odd reason.

It's more a difference in assembly. They took out all those finicky little wheels that were used in tread construction, and replaced them with a simpler design, akin to the Space Marine tanks. The sides are a little slimmer, and the detail is a little nicer. The Chimera I have no qualms with, but I do wish they did something with the Basilisk. Having that kit only make the Basilisk and nothing else is a missed opportunity.

Understatement alert!

Oh well, maybe they've got something else in the works for... a few years down the road.

"Fixing" the track design is a laudable move.

NOT including variant guns in the Basilisk is a bad one.

Yes, I haven't been less excited by a 40K release since those Possessed Chaos Space Marines they released for Medusa V.

which ones? the rock star ones or the current plastic ones?

also, I see in the sprue the heavy bolter, is that old sprues or new ones?

I agree. Why would they Make the Leman Russ box set have Variants, the Hellhound has Variants, why wouldn't the basilisk? Sounds like laziness

Well, seeing as how the metal "rock star" ones came out during Medusa V I'd say those are the ones he's talking about.

Ah, I forgot when they came out. All these releases just swirl together over the years.

Yeah, good thing they devoted the budget to SPESS MEHRENS and one lone, metal Flash git.

Well... I wouldn't put it quite like that BUT I have to agree, with the recent release of the IG Codex, there really isn't a 'good' reason to have NOT done up some Basilisk Gun variants for this 'new' release...

I have to admit, I was pretty upset when I saw that they want to charge me $50 for a Basalisk with nothing else in the box. Short of Apacolypse the Basalisk just is not a strong Heavy Support choice especially compared to the other artillery choices. I play Guard and am not a huge fan of not having access to some of the best stuff in the book unless I either convert or order from Forge World. I know all the Tyranid players would agree. Not all of us drool over the idea of converting and building. Some of us just want to play the damn game.

For the most part the new chimera is a superior kit. Assembly is simpler and you finally get all three turret options. My one major gripe is the crewman. As far as arms are concerned he has his choice of one left arm and either of two right arms each holding a different kind of pistol. Conspicuously absent is the set of arms used to operate a pintle weapon. You can put a pintle weapon in front of him but he has no choice but to ignore it in favor of brandishing his choice of laspistol or bolt pistol.

The basilisk kit isn't much of an improvement and loses the hull heavy bolter (though that is no impediment to me). I would've prefered to keep the kit as it was until it could be properly redone.

Don't say that too loudly, otherwise the 'it's called a hobby for a reason' crowd will be in here, parroting away.

They shouldn't have made a fuss over this at all really, the way I see it the basilisk isn't a new kit but just a repack since they want to retire the track/wheels/old hull spures.
Basically, just don't announce it as a new release but swap it with the one currently on shelves and a note in white dwarf/on the website to inform people of the chnage.

Plain and simple, they're the old chimera and basilisk with less parts and a tank commander. Waste of time in my opinion.

The lack of a heavy bolter might be something they'll include on a future upgrade sprue, as with the Battle Wagon, only this time they decided to exclude an essential part.

Yeah I really doubt that's the case. The Guard already have an accessory sprue, you can buy one for 80 bazillion dollars, or get one for 'free' in the 'new' Bassie 'kit'.

If you buy a Valkyrie, and you don't put the gunners in it. cause lets face it, you don't really see them anyways You'll have two sets of extra turret arms, just make sure you save those for your Chimera if holding pintle weapons is your thing. Hope I helped!

I personally have no intention of buying a Valkyrie, but I also already have all the chimeras I'm going to need for a while. I also have extra sets of those arms from the vehicle accessory sprue since I don't put pintle weapons on Basilisks.
