Still trying to play with the CSM dex some and started to think about a defiler/Dread list. For the Defilers I would assume it would be best to run them as is as it gives you the most options. As for the Dreads and there silly insane rule. I figured that running them with all DCCW would be best so that if a 6 comes up nothing really happens to horrible. Plus if a 1 comes up at the right time could really increase there threat range with the fleet.

I was wondering if anyone has had any exp with a list like this and how it went? Or thoughts on how well it would work out. At the 1500 point range.

I think I simple list based on this idea would look something like this.

====================================
Troops

10 CSM + plasma guns X2 + rhino + MoCG = 225

10 CSM + plasma guns X2 + rhino + MoCG = 225

10 CSM + plasma guns X2 + rhino + MoCG = 225

Elites

Dread w/ DCCW X2 = 100

Dread w/ DCCW X2 = 100

Heavy support

Defiler = 150

Defiler = 150

Defiler = 150
=================================

That leaves 175 points for an HQ

i played a similar list to this at my bud's house not too long ago. went like this:

HQ: lord with term armor

Elites: 2 dreads, 2x ccw

Troops: 2x 5 man basic csm squad w/ rhinos and basic champ

Hvy: 2 Vindicators, d. possession, defiler 2x ccw

really fun and funny list to play; i played against an eldar list and we played take n hold so we drew... but it was really zany and tons of fun. I wouldnt run it at a tourny, but it certainly can take people by surprise.

Might want a few meltas?

i really like the idea of this, i want to start a blood angel list full of dreds.

i feel like this would work better due to the lack of the insane rules and the many diff kid of dreds the marines have.

but again that isn't chaos, so that limits the fun

It works.
Though, it's not everyone's cup of tea. It has been called the Chaoszilla list, but does not operate at the same efficiency.

Defilers have a black/white oppurtunity cost with respect to shooting or charging, both of which are decent, but not great when flip flopped between.

Dreads are decent when there is armor saturation and there is, just have to keep them a bit ahead.

HQ should be 2 princes, maybe just the cheap 260 point kind. In general you can call it a monster mash

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Lesser Daemon of Chaos

Groningen, The Netherlands

I took the following to last years GT:

155 Daemon Prince, MoS, Lash, Wings
175 Daemon Prince, MoN, Warptime, Wings
100 Greater Daemon
120 Chaos Dreadnought, DCCW, HFl, EA
185 10 Chaos Space Marines, AC, 2 Meltaguns
35 Chaos Rhino
185 10 Chaos Space Marines, AC, 2 Meltaguns
35 Chaos Rhino
221 7 Plague Marines, Plague Champion, Power Fist, 2 Meltaguns
35 Chaos Rhino
150 Defiler
150 Defiler
150 2 Obliterators

It was a fun list to play and rather competative as well. If I were to take a similar list again, based on my experience that tournament, Id go with something like

155 Daemon Prince, MoS, Lash, Wings
175 Daemon Prince, MoN, Warptime, Wings
100 Greater Daemon
120 Chaos Dreadnought, DCCW, HFl, EA
120 Chaos Dreadnought, DCCW, HFl, EA
120 Chaos Dreadnought, DCCW, HFl, EA
185 10 Chaos Space Marines, AC, 2 Meltaguns
45 Chaos Rhino, Combimelta
185 10 Chaos Space Marines, AC, 2 Meltaguns
45 Chaos Rhino, Combimelta
150 Defiler
150 Defiler
150 Defiler

1700 points

Targetsaturation is good. There are lists against which you'll struggle. Especially IG can be hard or any other competative SAFH. Lists that focus on short range/CC you'll do very well against.

I built an army very much like this an it has done quite well. I plan to take it too Adepticon, and should get a better idea after that. The only issue so far has been the dreads. When they behave, the list really packs a punch. When they ALL fire frenzy multiple times, then I lose. That has been my observation to far.

So, with that said, if the dreads behave, you are good to go.

Nurgleboy, do you have Batreps? I run my Khorne list the same way, but I swap out Lash Princes for the tourney games. I find that the list doesn't work nearly as well without Lash to get the dreads into CC faster.
