Hey guys! So I went a bit crazy a while back and made a Forgeworld order for a Brass Scorpion! This was supposed to be a reward for finishing my Guard army...buuuut I missed the deadline to take the Guard to the tourney so, what the Hell!

OK so here's a bit of a WIP for the largest piece of Resin I have ever built.

Just a few shots of the assembled Scorpion before priming. I have the legs/claws pinned in but unglued and all the plates are also separate.

I also found a cool base from an old lamp that I have held onto for a long time knowing it would be useful for something. Sure enough it fits perfectly!

9. Virtually no mold lines and most tabs/flak are in inconspicuous locations.

I used some thick nails to pin the leg ball joints to the body. Since the model is fairly heavy and the legs socket into the same joint as the Defiler model (it's basically the same part with extra detail/cabling). Glueing the legs to the base will be interesting, since they terminate on a point.

My only real issue is the knee joints. The gear parts that fit into the slots don't totally fill the slot. In order to give it a stronger bond I added some plasticard (Very thin though) to the gear so it has a complete connection. This is really not a huge issue, but I wanted to have the best joint possible.

Yeah I got lucky with the base (it even has felt bumpers on the bottom!). Yeah, there will be rubble and a wreck on the base that it is climbing over. I have lots of Leman Russ hull parts so that may end up as it's victim.

Does it have eyes?

Nope, not even a "face" which Ifeel makes it much scarier and Demonic. Kinda like "Maximum Overdrive" from the Warp!

How are you gonna paint it?

Thanks, I thought so too! I will paint it to fit into my Legion of Brass army. Basically brass/gold on all the trim with black on the plate interiors, and corrupt metallics on the undercarriage. I also plan on LOTS of freehand skulls on the larger outer plates along the back and the legs/claws.

OK so I have the steel areas of the legs about done and the brass trim on the back armor plates mostly done! Moving along with this thing.

Not much to show because not much is actually done, but I did black in the interior of two plates to see how the brass will look. I still have some highlighting to do on the brass, but all the messy stuff is done.

OK so I have the brass on all the back plates done, metallics on the legs done, and lack some washes and final highlights on the leg brass. Not too shabby considering the size of this beast!

That Brass Scorpion looks fantastic. I'm so glad you didnt paint it red like Forgeworld!

It looks so much more menacing in a dark colour scheme and much more chaotic

the scorpions obviously the main attraction, but I have to say, I was loving the use of Ork Dread CC arms & Ghazkull's Power Klaws. 10/10 for brutal rippy power weapon death!

Also, as someone else said, well done on the 'using loads of metallics & having it still look awesome'

So I'm bringing it back to life. Do you find your defilers are harder to move around the board with those large bases, perhaps when terrain is very cluttered?
