Hey people, A combination of the Dread Arm conversion I just did, a new army I just started that will need two custom dreads and my birthday (I have been allowed to do whatever I wanted today, I chose modelling) has seen me convert and build two dread shoulder "blanks". Basically I sculpted left and right shoulders that are identical, cast a mold for them and can now cast as many shoulders as I need for new weapon systems, right handed CCW fists or anything else I can think up. So here is the process...

Step 1 - I took two dread arms, the always handy AoBR arms of course.

Step 2 - I carved them to pieces and rebuilt them to a simple block shape, obviously I skipped a few pics...believe me it was messy.

Step 3 - I then cast a mold of the two shoulder pieces and cast them in resin, came up with these. The reason they look like cheese is due to the age of the resin I used for this test run.

The end result is that I can now save a ton of time when doing Dread conversions, and I can build my two rifleman dreads to look similar...which is something my modelling OCD insisted on

I know its not a stunningly exciting post but I am pretty happy to have found a way around carving up set after set of Dread arms

Cheers

Thanks Stompa,

I am pretty happy with how wide and squat he looks which I think is one of the iconic things about the Space marine dread. I don't care so much anymore about how they have no knees or proper hips, they still look mean.

Oh and in the one day since I posted this on dakka and my local clubs forum I have gotten 3 orders for right arm shoulders, looks like I wasn't the only one wanting to save on carving up Dread arms.

Cheers

Oh, that's beautiful Blackhand.... WOW!

That's far superior to my just sticking the guns on the sides of my dread! Wow.... really... just wow. I stand in awe... yet again.

Nice GS'd hand too by-the-way!

@Gitsplitta - Thanks bud, if I could afford to buy a couple of Aegis defence lines I would have happily used the quad autocannons from them but... Instead I have gone this route, and TBH I am happy with the new shoulder molds anyway.

Oh and the GS hand is a sign of things to come......

@Whalemusic - Thanks WM, the autocannons are from the IG heavy weapon kit, people almost never use them so I have been able to scrounge all I need with very little trouble.

@Wolfshadow - Cheers! I am a big fan of the rifleman too, but then I am a Mechwarrior player from way back, as far as I am concerned Mech Commander 2 is the finest game ever made and is basically how a 40k game should have been built.

Cheers

I would guess that he used the autocannons from the Imperial guard heavy weapon team
