Hello again this is my report on game 2 of the Trumpeter Salute tournament, game 1 can be found here:

After getting back from break I find myself assigned to table 1 so I reset myself onto the new table.

So we draw for random missions and I get:



Pretty self explanatory Ghaz needs to survive however I'm really not that worried about loosing him, if I use him against the right stuff there is no chance of losing him.

Randomly drawn deployment: Pitched battle

We roll for first turn: He wins and decides to go first.

After placing objectives he deploys as such:


Note: those white harlequins are played as banshees and the dimes you see are the secondary objectives.

I deploy as such





Infiltrators: His 2 pathfinder units infiltrate on, one on the objective in the circular ruin in the foreground and the other hiding behind that furthest piece of terrain right infront of my opponent:



Pre game thoughts: I'm not even worried about loosing Ghaz, unless he gets hit by himself off the waaagh by both units of banshees but even then it'll be hard to loose him. I'm actually wondering what he is going to do, there is not all that much anti tank and a lot of his list seems like it's trying to go for combat, which he will loose.

Roll to seize initiative and fail.

Eldar turn 1: Every thing but the pathfinders and fire prism move up, and fast. The right hand Guardian squad makes a move towards my grotz, the banshees move right up the middle with the second banshee unit running behind them. the Avenger's serpent is the only one of the 3 that still have use of it's guns after it moves as the others move too far with there star engines. The Avatar and wraithlords walk towards me as well. It seems if he is going for an early game objective grabs and then try to hold them, I don't think this is going to work well at all.

End of movement:


Shooting: The bright lance from the Avenger's serpent hits my Nob'z wagon and wreck it, my nobz hop out the front, I'm not worried about them getting hit by anything he has, especially sense he had shot the fire prism already. The other 2 serpents can't shoot, not sure why he chose to do that. Wraithlords and fire prism had already shot at the wagons and failed, meanwhile the left pathfinders fire at lootas and fail while the right hand pathfinder squad hits the grotz and kills 1 thanks to going to ground.

End of shooting:


No assaults.

Orks turn 1: The 2 remaining battlewagons move straight ahead, trukk in tow. The nobz move in behind the turned sideways Mek wagon, I turned it sideways and showed side armor because his lances are making me av 12 anyways so I would rather have larger cover for the nobz to hide. I also wanted the nobz to be hitting the Avatar and lords, the lords have str 10 but no invulnerable so power claws seem like a good choice, I also didn't want Ghaz stuck in with the Avatar off the waaagh. The buggies wrap around the half ruin the lootas are in to get some clear shots at the Guardian serpent while retaining cover from other things.

Movement:


Shooting: My left side lootas wreck the Banshees serpent, the right hand ones Immobilize and 2x weapon destroy the Avengers serpent even after saves, I love lootas. The buggies take their shots at the Guardians serpent by the grotz but they fail to do anything.

No assaults.

End of turn:


Eldar turn 2: The guardians hop out right infront of the grotz:


Else were The Banshees run straight at the battle wagons presumably he is hoping to open one of the wagons and assault the innards. One the wraithlords goes around the wrecked serpent the other way to met up with the Avatar. The other wraithlord moves closer to the action as well while both pathfinder units and the fire prism stands still. The Avengers also hop out of the immobile weaponless serpent and stand their ground.

End of movement:


Shooting: The pathfinder squad on the left kills a loota from the left and the same result happens on the right, no pinning. The guardian squad downs 3 grotz. Everything else opens up on the wagons but thanks to the Mek's force field nothing comes from it. He also runs the Avatar and banshees up, I'm not sure why. Everything passes leadership.

No assaults.

End of turn:





Ork turn 2: Again I have a perfect set up but in this game instead of having it with only one unit, it is the whole army. Everything is close to me and out of transports ready to get wiped, this turn will be a decider. The first thing I do is tank shock both banshee units with the Ghazzy's wagon. The first, the one that had the serpent passes leadership and moves to the side but the other, the one that is harlequins counts as fails leadership and 2 banshees to the rolla, they then fall back:



The Mek's wagon goes directly right to deal with the guardians and the trukk splits the middle to reach the Avengers. The buggies move only a little to get into kff range, I also want them to take the guardians serpent so he can't contest objectives. Everything gets out of their transports, choppa mob to hit the banshees, Ghaz out the back side to hit the Avatar, shoota mob for the guardians and the trukk boyz get out to hit the Avengers. The nobz move up to support Ghaz.

End of movement:



Shooting: The buggies hit the guardians serpent and get a shaken. The lootas try to bring down the fire prism however the only result is another shaken. I declare a waaagh and run everything towards their targets. have to do a slight side step to make room for the nobz to hit the Avatar with Ghaz.

Assault: Every thing hits their targets:





First things first the Avatar wounds 2 nobz and Ghaz drops him with his klaw. In the choppa boyz vs. the banshees the boyz lose 1 and annihilate the banshees. The trukk mob looses 1 and wipes the avengers while the shoota mob takes out the guardians while taking no wounds. The shoota boyz consolidate back towards their wagon, the trukk boyz consolidate towards the pathfinders and their objective in the ruins. The choppa mob consolidates towards the remaining unit of banshees to chase them off the board and with the nobs+Ghaz I pull Ghaz back and form a wall with the nobz to protect from the wraith lords.

End of turn:





Eldar turn 3: He lost a fair chunk of his force last turn so there is not much to do here, his banshees continue to fall back, one wraithlord moves into assault range while the other move up. The now dead guardians serpent moves 6" and prepares to hit the buggies. The fire prism and pathfinders stay still.

End of movement:


Shooting: The left pathfinder unit fires at the left loota mob but fails to produce anything. On the right the pathfinders fire at the trukk boy mob that is right infront of them but fail to kill anything. The fire prism can't shoot this round and the remaining serpent tries to kill a buggie while it contests that objective but fails thanks to the kff. So I lost nothing this phase.

Assault: The wraithlord assaults the nob unit and kills one however he is wiped out by the nobz who then consolidate towards the other wraithlord.

End of turn:





Orks turn 3: Well its looking like there is no hope at all for him, I guess I'll just play mop up until were done. Ghaz hops in a wagon, just for fun. The trukk mob move up slightly and prepares to kill the pathfinders with the shoota mob following behind. The nobz move into charge range of the remaining wraithlord and the buggies zip in behind the remaining serpent for some back side shots.

End of movement:


Shooting: The buggies wreck the remaining serpent while the lootas fail to do anything to the fire prism. A nob with a combi rokkit puts a wound on the wraithlord.

Assault: Nobz assault the wraithlord, Trukk boyz hit the pathfinders to clear the objective, and just for fun the choppa mob hits the banshees:





The Nobz take the wraithlord with no loses, the red choppa mob takes 1 loss and wipes out the rangers and the trukk boyz drop the pathfinders with no problems. Not much else of his on the table so I consolidate the choppa boyz towards the fire prism and the nobz move for the remaining pathfinders.

End of turn:






At his point my opponent knows he is done for and concedes the game to me. So we shake hands:


Another full 16 point win, 2 down 1 to go.

After game thoughts: Well I don't think my opponent had much Ork experience other wise he would not have done what he did, moving so far up first turn and not shooting. I don't really have much too add too it, I knew Ghaz wasn't going to die and opening up the 2 serpents and getting to the innards was a no brainer but it just goes to show how great 5 boy loota squads are. All in all let this show any new Eldar players what not to do against Orks.

That Eldar army makes me sad, Banshees on foot, Pathfinders and a huge mix of pointless upgrades. He might have made a game of it if he had hung back and shot as long as he could like Eldar are supposed to, but moving flat out into the face of an Ork army is just asking to get tabled.

That's what I thought his plan would be (sitting back) my only explanation is a lack of Ork experience on his behalf. Or maybe a lack of his own army knowledge, he was young and was using his dad's army. I felt a bit bad there but he was a good sport about it so kudos to him for that.

The models are indeed harlequins but as notted earlier they are being played as banshees. I believe he said he frogot his other banshees unit.

I'm not sure I follow, David vs. Goliath was a story (which can be considered a very symbolic story rather than a fact) about a very small man with no conceivable hope of winning taking on a giant who was almost assured to win. Then David, using his noggin ends up beating the insurmountable odds and beats Goliath. That is definitely NOT what happened here.

As for the cards, I have already gotten about 5 pms about were people can find these mission cards. Now I never asked Lee (the TO) were he got them but the missions were his idea so I am guessing he made them up on his computer then just went down to a photocopy store and got them laminated. I can ask him next time I see him down at a Trumpeter gaming night, maybe he has some templates he used that he can stick up on the net and let others make their own, keep an eye out for a thread on that subject sometime in May if you are interested.

My Sunday is busy here, I have quite a bit of stuff to do but the 3rd game will be up by this evening.

Anyways, that kid messed up with his Eldar...big time. I mean first, as everyone pointed out, he flat out with his Wave serpents into the face of nobz, boyz, GHAZ!! and deff rollaz. Then the second turn he unloaded all his units for no reason...why?WHY??I was taught that Eldar were supposed to stay in their transport unless for the direst needs...
I mean really, cool game but I think he wasn't ready at all against this ork list....
Oh yea and lootas are ridiculous
