Atlas was a mining world located deep in Formosa sector. At the beginning of the war, Space Wolves captured Atlas and turned it into their stronghold. From there they converted Atlas plants into factories to produce ordnance and refine fuel for their ships and vehicles.

Half a terrain cycle has passed since Inquisitor Coteaz’s failed attempt to liberate Atlas. War between the rogue Adeptus Astartes and Inquisitor Coteaz had stagnated with neither side giving up territory. But after the defeat of the Doom Eagles at the hands of the Order of Faith and freeing planet Valladol from their captors, the balance of power shifted to the Inquisitor’s side.

Soon after, Corteaz received word from one of his agents that a Space Wolves Battle Barge was in bound. If the current Spaces Wolves forces in Formosa weren’t dealt with, the Battle Barge’s arrival would be a death knell for Coteaz’s forces. With clock ticking, Coteaz issued an all out assault on Atlas.

.....

Hurling towards Atlas, drop ship 2 prepares for entry. Aboard, Canoness Dianus flinch as a bright beam of light narrowly grazes her drop ship. Seconds later a bright flash erupts on the starboard side followed by a shockwave rattling the flight deck.

“Frak, drop ship 5 is hit,” curses the pilot.

Dianus groans. “There goes Formosa 2nd Armored Company. How will my Sisters capture the spaceport without armor support?”

“That only leaves drop ship 1, 2, and 4,” informs the pilot. “Praise the Emperor! Not a single drop ship carrying the Order of Faith has been hit.”

“It will take more than a miracle for this operation to succeed,” said Dianus.

.....

This is round 3 of Games Workshop 1500 points tournament, the final round. So far I lost in round 1 against a Grey Knights Coteaz henchmen list, but I made a major comeback in round 2 after narrowly tabling a Space Marine army. With 1 win and 1 lost under my belt, there’s no way I’ll make it to the semi-finals for 1st or 2nd place.

My third match was against fellow Dakkalite Commander Endova.

Army List

Commander Endova brought a Razor-spam list featuring 5 Razorbacks supported by Land Speeders and Long Fangs.

Space Wolves:
-Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain
-Wolf Guard 1: Power Fist, Meltabomb
-Wolf Guard 2: Power Fist, combi-melta
-Wolf Guard 3: Frost Blade, Meltabomb
-5 Wolf Scouts, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Plasma Pistol
-5 Grey Hunters, Wolf Banner, Flamer, Razorback, Lascannon + TL-Plasmagun (Wolf Guard 1)
-5 Grey Hunters, Wolf Banner, Meltagun, Razorback, TL-Lascannon (Wolf Guard 2)
-5 Grey Hunters, Wolf Banner, Meltagun, Razorback, TL-Assault Cannon, Hunter Killer Missile (Rune Priest)
-5 Grey Hunters, Wolf Banner, Flamer, Razorback, TL-Assault Cannon, Hunter Killer Missile (Wolf Guard 3)
-Land Speeder, Heavy Flamer, Cyclone Missile Launcher
-2 Land Speeders, 2 Heavy Flamers, 2 Multi-Meltas
-6 Long Fangs, 5 Missile Launchers, Razorback, TL-Lascannon

I fielded a conventional mechanized Sisters of Battle list featuring a squad of Seraphims.

Sisters of Battle (Order of Faith):
-Canoness, Eviscerator, Book of St. Lucius
-5 Celestians Retinue, 2 Meltaguns, Immolator, Extra Armour, Smoke
-7 Seraphims Veteran Sister Superior, Eviscerator, Book of St. Lucius, 2 Flamers
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Book of St. Lucius, Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Extra Armour, Smoke, Search Light
-10 Battle Sisters, Veteran Sister Superior, Brazier of Holy Fire, Book of St. Lucius, Meltagun, Heavy Flamer, Rhino, Extra Armour, Smoke

Spoiler:
Victory for the Sisters of Battle!

Afterthoughts

Spoiler:
Wow, goddess of fortune was smiling down on me in this match. My dice were hot! Beginning of the game, my Exorcists were destroying vehicles left and right. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Commander Endova. His Long Fangs and Razorback defied statistics. The only time where his dice didn’t completely desert him was in assault. Well, that's not entirely true. Had he disabled my Rhino on turn 5, he controlled the top right table quarter. In hindsight, he should have chosen my table quarter during deployment and went second. Getting the last turn is essential for Table Quarter missions.

With two wins and one lost, I won third place. As a reward, I received “Flesh and Iron”, a Warhammer 40,000 novel written by Henry Zou. Overall I had a lot of fun in this tournament. All three of my opponents fielded mechanized armies. It’s a lot of fun playing mech vs. mech.

.....

Canoness Dianus props her back against the cool surface of an Immolator. Her body aches from the bumps and bruises she received from fighting Grey Hunters in melee. Some how she miraculously survived being beaten and was left for dead without serious injuries.

Her fortunes didn’t end there. Without support from the Formosa 2nd Armored Company lost during planet entry, Dianus was certain the Order of Faith would fail to breech the Space Wolves defenses. Fate had proven otherwise. Throughout the ground assault, similar unexplained miracles occurred. Again and again the heretics shot rockets, unleashed a torrent from assault cannons, and discharged their Lascannons into Order of Faith. But a divine blessing from above protected her Sisters and carried them onto victory. Shots were deflected, missiles pre-detonated, and Lascannons beams dissipated off lightly armored vehicles. It was as if the God Emperor was watching over them, punishing the Space Wolves for their lack of faith.

Dianus gazes up into the night sky. Like shooting stars, bright streaks of light could be seen zipping to and fro. Specks of light blink in the sky, marking explosions. The battle between Space Wolves fleet and the Formosa Defense fleet continued on in space. With Atlas spaceport secured, Inquisitor Coteaz will soon ferry down ground forces for the next phase of the invasion. Once the cogs in war machines began rolling on Atlas’s surface, there will be no rest for the Order of Faith. There will be no rest until all heretics were purged into oblivion and the planet freed from their captors. In the mean time, Dianus relax and watch the spectacular light show from above. Her heart stirs for the approaching battle yet to come.

WOOT! Well done, SabreX! When I first saw that Space Wolf list, I was preparing myself for a Sisters loss, but crazy luck (plus lots of faith) made for a pretty big win on your part. I've had games just like that, where I should have lost on paper, but wound up winning due to crazy luck.

Great job overall in the tournament- third place is pretty impressive. Plus, you finished off a psyker in the final round-- great way to end a tourney with Witch Hunters.

Congrats on a great job. Even though his space wolves didn't spam those long fangs, they're still a dangerous opponent. One of these days, I'll make it to one of their tournaments.

Woohoo another good BR !

Congratulations on your victory and on your 3rd place.

Space Wolves seems a bit scary to play against, but you managed to run your sisters with great effects.

Faith is in the dice result, not only in AOF :p

In the end luck and smart tactics won me the game.

I'm still disappointed my Seraphims didn't do much in all 3 games. Well, in round 1 they scored 2 kill points, but round 2 they ran off the board, and in round 3 they didn't survive long enough to contest table quarters or take out a Grey Hunter squad. Next time I'll stick to deploying Seraphims behind vehicles.

I've played against a lot of SW players, but only you, Frankie, and Reecius have spammed 3 Long Fang squads against me. GW Oakridge has Fantasy and 40k tournament once a month. They are switching to 2 rounds because a lot of players can't stick around long enough to play 3 rounds. 2 round matches don't make a lot of sense unless its a low turn out.

As long as I'm not facing anymore than 2 Long Fang squads, I consistently do well against Space Wolves.

Lady luck can be fickle. She ditches me in round 1 but runs back to me in round 2 and 3.

I have found the same as you Sabr when it comes to Long Fangs with SoB. 3 squads tears them apart, but two are manageable, especially with favorable terrain. I actually started running a Callidus assassin to deal with Long Fangs, Lootas and other annoying units like those in the backfield (not a great solution but the only one SoB have).

After the first turn I figured you had this one. One round of unimpeded Exorcists puts a huge damper on his shooting. I am surprised I did not see more Divine Guidance shooting. For example, I might have tried to fail my morale test on your lone superior and so I could DG the squad in my own turn. Is there a reason you decided not to or did you just roll too well for your leadership?

DS'ing Seraphim so they are effective is hard, I might have dropped them behind the Long Fangs where your opponent would have had to commit some Frags and Long Fang assaulting to attempt to deal with them.

Good battle report, SabrX. Reviewing the slide show made me remember what a painful battle that was. Dice may have been a factor, but your tactics were top notch as well.

I was hoping they would stall the Grey Hunters, but it didn't turn out that way.

At the time I was focusing on neutralizing any units that could capture or contest table quarters. Despite landing them dead on and shooting at the Grey Hunters in the crater, Endova made a lot of armor saves.

Glad to hear from you. Let me know if you ever want to have a rematch.
