Good evening Dakka. So, i have been painting orks for three months now... or building more tanks... or so on and so forth, either way i need a break from painting red and green on a massive scale. I recently visited my local (i.e a mere 120 miles away. And i live in isle of man which is in the uk) GW for the ogre release i got sidetracked. I've rejected marine armies for the last 4 years because... to be honest ultramarines ruined it for me. Every space marine army is shown as being a blue smurf, and i grew tired of it. However i saw something red... and i've had a soft spot for blood angels for a long while. I found myself suddenly at the till with the battalion set and a dreadnought. So much for my fantasy army.

Now when i got home i realised i fancied an army of blood, and since gav thorpe un-wrote codex chaos i found a middleground. Flesh Tearers. These guys have all the sexyness of the blood angels, with added violance to boot.

So, enough pointless chat, here's the opening piece, a Rhino.

Personally, i'm glad i added the stains of a failed death or glory on the front.... it adds a little bit of flavor.

C&C?

@mordain; haha glad you approve!
@swordwind; thanks man! i must admit its one of my favourite tanks i've painted in a while.
@cambell; thanks dude!

Update time; i found a forgeworld razorback upgrade in my box from a while ago... decided to make my rhino interchangable. I've also reclaimed an old venerable dreadnought in order to make my new librarian dreadnought.

Nice job on the rhino skrall. The FW heavy bolter is nice, don't see many of those around. The blood on the front however seems a bit over the top. At the model scale, the blood splatters would normally be a bit different - the splatter looks good for a real life sized splatter but when scaled down to 40k proportions, the pools seem a bit off. Anyway I'm just nitpicking...look forward to seeing more of the models

@martin; thanks man!

@egg; yeah they are nicely different from the normal ones. as for the blood well;

First up, i corrected, to the best i could, the scale of the blood by adding even more.

This next guy is a bugger to photo, i tried multiple times and these are the best i could coax. I am probably going to re-do the head by turning it into a helmet in the near future, but for now...

Once again i await your keen eyes and well placed feedback.

@pacific; thanks man!

Time for an update, i've finally chosen my basing theme and general background.... City/industrial site defense/liberation.

So, examples of the two bases i've built so far;

now for the dreadnought i've rebuilt, an assault terminator and a new jump pack chaplain.

i do wish i had the funds to replace my camera, after 4 years its starting to get a bit... wibbly.

Anyways, C&C welcomed!

its fluff and picture time.

I've made a basic captain model, in this case he's acting captain of the 2nd company. The story behind how he got the that position is partially shrouded in mystery, following the loss of the 5th company (its unknown if they are dead or simply missing... or both) the only survivor was the then veteran sergeant Thenos. It is said the captain of the 5th sent out the sergeant ahead to warn of the incoming invasion to the Forge World of Lynionis V. The invasion was at the hands of the Orks, and the 5th stayed behind to defend the forgeworld until backup was sent. Rumours were the Waaaagh! at the hands of an unknown warboss was filled with wyrdboyz, who ensured any astropathic communications were impossible. Thenos secured transport on a small naval cutter, one incapable of defending the forgeworld, but perfectly capable of warp travel nessecary to summon the aid of the imperium and the rest of the flesh tearers.

The Wyrdboyz however were not yet done with their mischeif. They caused a storm in the warp that forced the cutter into another warpscurrent, and this in turn ment that they did not arrived 2 weeks after they had left the forgeworld, but 5 years. Upon his return he reported to Gabriel Seth, who broke the news that the forgeworld had long since fallen. What passed between the two men is unknown, however when Thenos was re-intergrated into the chapter he was the new acting captain for the second company. His arrival there has been seen as a betrayal of the former captain (though this is a vague excuse to hide the wounded prides of many of the 2nd companies senior sergeants who had there eye on becoming a captain), others saw it as a miscalculation by seth, putting a man who lost his company in charge of one of the strongest companies that still remained within the flesh tearers. Seth, however, far from miscalculated. He had judged Thenos perfectly, knowing that whilst the sergeant thirsted to prove himself to the chapter, the sorrow of his lost company meant he was unwilling to needlessly risk the life blood of the chapter.

In the 10 years since his placement as the acting captain, thenos has lead many daring and brutal raids again the ork held worlds between the flesh tearers and Lynionis V, and all of them with surprisingly few casualties, and even fewer fatalities. Those who can see Seths plans at work understand that this is one of the many opportunities he's taken in order to halt the death of the chapter, or at least prolong its service.

Its not exactly well written, in this case its just to give a general jist, since this guy is unlikely to be my chosen captain for any length of time, i want to make something much cooler. Now to show him and my newly built tactical squad. Pretty basic stuff, normal kits, some conversion, two heavy guys who can be swapped (heavy bolter, Missile launcher), i've put together a basic captain model from a spare hero space marine model and i've base coated the blue on two librarians.

Update time. Now, my paint still hasn't arrived much to my annoyance, so i've salvaged some mini's that haven't had a use before now... may i introduce the 5 captains of the flesh tearers (still WIP, but i'm waiting on very small additions for them from forgeworld. See paint for same issue of delivery)

Now for my favourite of the group, re-assembled from a tyanic veteran i converted a long time ago. i've cleaned him up, given him new arms and a new backpack, and rebased him.

I'll be honest, the base is my fav part. i used a cast of the mechanicum symbol from the old terrain sets, waiting till it was 80% dry then began breaking up the resin. the end result was that i got the look of fragmented scenery without any hastle. A process i may repeat but it lends itself to the theme i've got.

@farty; lol at your name.... and thanks man! the next dread's weapon is EVEN ripperish. But thats a while off...

Ok update time, my paints arrived today but my decals haven't, so i haven't been able to orgernise what i'd hoped to get done before i started painting. As such i'm limited on how far i can push it, this is the dreadpod at about 40% finished.

Theres no blood on this one, its going to be one of the few tanks/infantry without some gorestains.

After much toying, adjusting and fiddling i've finally got the scheme down to what i want. I hope you guys like these two, First up is a generic cheap and chearful captain if i ever need a disposible HQ choice. Secondly is the guy i'm more proud of, Brother Sergeant Corvinus, 2nd company 2nd squad. I've gone all out in terms of the decals, keeping them within the flesh tearers 'functional' theme. I love the base on this one, but it doesn't show up so well. Ah well.

and now for my avatar; The Hero shot.

@lips; ty man!
@martin; i don't know which was which, i bought it ages back, but thanks! i like the hammer/jump pack dude for his 'landed and bad ass' look.

As a reward for commenting, and more to show off the latest bit of fun i'm having heres a very early PIP librarian. If you can see it, i love the base, its got a crack floor/plastcreet feeling i enjoy. hopefully i can manifest the effect in the paint stage... but in the meantime ignore the roughness of it, most of the work i've done thus far has been in the area of the blues, which i'm starting to feel happier with.

C&C if you've got any...

Update time, now i'm not quite finished yet, but until i get a fine liner to do the extra detailing i want i'm going to shelf it. theres a few touch ups i need to do, but in order to get a better appreciation of it i'm gonna take a step back. Here's where i'm up to with the librarian.

mera has a horrible habbit of zooming into the area i don't want to be in focus which is always behind what i want to be in focus. Hopefully this should give you the grounds for some good feedback.
