With the wheels in motion on my Grey Knights project I thought, as the 6th edition allows allies, I would create some for my Grey Knights...

Story for the "Chapter"

Those Marines and humans gathered for the Chamber of Trials who fail the first right of passage; the pilgrimage through the haunted plains of Xanada Regio, are often slain in a second of entering. However not all are slain, some simply disappear to never be seen again; or so it is thought. Those who die are said to become one with the plains; making the plains even more dangerous for those entering afterwards. Those who disappear are said to be engulfed into another far reaching plain of existance, one outside the confinds and rules of this plain (perhaps even going as far as them entering the warp), where they undergo changes; similar to those of a Grey Knight novitiate to become a fully pledged knight. They seem to become one with this world and the "other" to carry out similar (if not identical) duties of a Grey Knight.

Perhaps the bodies and spirits of all those lost Grey Knight brothers have something to do with this.... however nothing is for certain.

The strange "knights" are said to appear when the Grey Knight strike forces are completely outnumbered and where all looks lost. No recorded event has ever occurred within the history of Titan's greatest warriors that they exist, as the Exterminatus Order is often used to ensure the destruction of the enemy killing millions of innocent but saving billions for the greater good, killing all Knights, enemies and evidence proving the existance of these strange group of knights. Perhaps these knights appear so that they can help fight along their "would-to-be" brothers till death. Or to save them, the bodies and the spirits of their Grey Knight counterparts from being lost to the warp forever.

To everyone other than the highly trained, these mysterious knight's apparel appear identical to that of a Grey Knights due to a psychic field preventing those not worthy to see the truth; although on closer inspection it is completely different. They are said to be dressed in red armour; the same colour as the uniform giving to those first entering the plains of Xanada Regio, to show their alliance to the Imperium and Grey Knights however displaying the fact that they are not a group that equals the Grey Knight Chapter due to their failings. They fight in very small groups, often just 3 men strong often fashioning a jump-pack of sorts salvaged from wars past, present and even wars yet to come. Reasons for this fighting style is unknown although I could be seen as a way to demonstrating their strength to allies and foes alike.

*To be continued*

The way in which I probably intent to field them is used the rules for the Death Company from the Blood Angels codex as the rules seem to fit nicely with the fluffy on this "chapter", The Weeping Angels, but making sure that they are unique in every way possible.

So without further ado, I present the "Chapter Master" (to be fielded as a count-as Astorath to get past the death company restriction)

"Chapter Master ........"

His story is yet to be decided but I'm thinking of going along the lines of either he was the first to disappear from the Plains of Xanada Regio or perhaps he was a mysterious anomaly after an Exterminatus Order was issued, ripping a small enough whole in reality to allow him to escape his fate becoming part of the world where the Xanada Regio plain exists.

*To be decided*

He's mostly base coated and fashioned from mainly death company parts but will have grey knight, space wolf and a few other parts thrown in (and hopefully plenty of skulls!!), with all the other using the same sort of bits however I've just got to put it all together. Was thinking of a multiple number of names for the chapter using the word "Tear" somewhere in the name; so if anyone has some ideas please leave them before you go.
What do you guys think.... reckon the idea is a good one or are there bits you'd change... or maybe even add?

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed, more to come soon

Just a quick update before I decide to sit down for the night, but here's the progess on "chapter master" so far.

Only has a single layer completed at the moment; highlighting is yet to come, but I'm not sure what colour to do the helmet or left shoulder pad. I'm wanting to do a blue or a green but not sure which will work best or whether either will work, what do you guys think?

Had a quick little game with my count-as Astorath Chapter Master and earlier today; while proxying all his other troop... and to be honest they didnt stand up to anything; except my count-as Astorath Chapter Master who had to save about 50 shots in turn 2 and 3 - surviving both turns including 2 Vindicator shells to the face! Once all that was over, I decided that perhaps this should not be a gaming army on its own and only used as allies or even just a display army (unless having a random battle)

Anyway without me wasting anymore time, my Chapter Master has now had 2 levels of highlights and some metalic parts based. I apologies for the rubbish camera shots as I'm only able to use my iphone at this moment in time thus the image appear darker than the model in real life.

The jump pack has also decided to come out of hiding and start getting some paint on it.

Ignore all the bone colour; it is for my own personal reference.

All the cross I was thinking of do in purple..thoughts? I know what your going to say... "it still looks like blood angels" and your right they do at the moment but I want to try and change that and do something different with the helmets and shouldpad but can't think what....ideas? Perhaps purple also?

Plenty of work to do yet; better get it done before I hit the pub

Enjoy

I finally decided that I would use purple as the additional colour on my "new chapter". I think it's working pretty well;although I still gotta do a lot to finish him (but most of the highlighting is done). Sorry for the blurry and dull images but I'm still using the iphone for pictures...

So what do you guys think? Does it work well....and what colour do you think I should do the eyes?

Painting is top-notch, and I like the use of red here.
As for the eyes, Im thinking green or blue.

I have to say though, Im not really a fan of the massive axe he's swinging. Seems incredibly lop-sided and offbalanced...

Why is his hammer an axe and why is his axe a hammer 0_0

Aside from that everything's very well done especially the red.

For the eyes I suggest a lime green .

Right it seems to be green thats the favourite colour to do for the eyes.

@Ronin and @captaincheese; what you do reckon would be a good way to adjust his "axe" so that he still has an axe (because he is a count-as Astorath afterall) but don't look like a thunderhammer? Maybe chop off the hammer part and replace them with the axe parts?

Thanks

Quick update in response to the size of the axe (which when pointed out did look a bit stupid). I've cut the hammer head and tail of allowing the axe heads to become closer making it look more of an executioner's axe.... thoughts? and importantly does it look better?

Sorry for the worst photo ever! but I look it whilst on the move

Enjoy; another update to probably follow this evening

Edit: P.s. What colour do you think I should do the droplets...green to match the eyes or a blue?

As promised an update. Eyes are not green and the axe is much smaller (not looking lop-sided)
All that's left now is all of the scrolls, trim, metallics and droplets.....still open to suggestions as to the colour; favouring the same green as the eyes.

*Pictures are small as they are taken in very poor light so are very grainy looking in large (we've all been there)*
*I really need a proper camera and booth*

As always C&C is welcome. Enjoy, maybe even more updates later if lucky

Update time. It's been lovely hot here in the UK; nearing 30*C, so not too much has been done s I've been soaking up the sun but managed to get the Dreadnought based (pictures coming soon) and more importantly my Astorath count-as is almost compete, check it out...

Once completed a proper photoshoot will be done to show him off as the purple seem rough in the iphone pictures.

What does everyone think? IMHO I really like the red-green contrast... although I still need to put a gloss finish on the droplets to get the to stand out.
The banner and base still need doing aswell as little details like the wording on the scrolls. C&C welcome as always

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed. More updates to come

Axe looks way better, but for failed Grey Knights they certainly have a lot of Blood Angel insignia....

Indeed, I do need to change alot of that; although main failed the tests (before actually becoming a GK) so may still have some marks of their previous chapter before being taken to be tested in Knighthood... although I do agree that changes are needing to be made. Any ideas what I could include?
