So in taking a break from my Chaos forces, I've decided to get some crons going.

Today is the first day of work so I don't know how much I'll be able to throw up, but I do have one my color scheme ideas done. I'd like to a non-traditional color scheme for the army, not really sure what. I've done some browsing on here and the web. So I'll try a few first I think then pick what I like. I started with the Lychguard, not sure why, as they're be harder to strip the paint from since they have more bits but oh well. Here is the first go. I don't think the purple shows up well enough against the tan, not to mention the gold is completely lost, and it needs a strong 3rd color..... so I think I'll try some other purple layering variants on a 2nd tan guy and we'll see.

Purples before the wash

Purples after the wash, with the gold

I really like the purple, but as you say the gold dosen't stand out enough. Maybe a bronze metalic?

I appreciate the feedback and while I do like the bone color, I don't know that it will go well with the purple, particularly on the vehicles. So I did two other variants with some warriors.

I completely dislike the black and purple, although it seemed good in my head. The purple and silver is my favorite. I think the brightness of the silver works well with the mostly dark purples aside from the highlights. Partner that with the fact that the vehicles will be painted like the traditional necron vehicles (very dark colors that stage up to highlights on the edges) but with the purple...I think that's what I'll do, but I'll sleep on it.

Why not keep the bone look with the soldiers and for vehicles do kind'a an ebon *glossy black* with granite stone lines to give it a black ebon marble look, would continue that ancient feel?
I think the "bone" look pops the purple color with its yellow'ish hue that it has. The black/purple or silver/purple combo just breaks up the flatness of a solid color vs accenting or complimenting the purple.

I could be completely talk'n out of my arse, but it all comes down to what you are comfortable with.

I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and your opinion. However, the more I look at the bone/purple the less I like it, despite loving the idea at first... can't say why. I think I'll have to go with the silver. In the mean time, let the tedium begin....

Digging that color scheme. Purple is a great accent color, and I think doing the bulk of the guys silvery and the IC's with a bone/gold color makes them pop out so much more. I dont think I've actually ever seen that done before, come to think of it.

Now there is an idea...I think you mistook the Lychguard as an IC but I could do the royal court and Imotekh and Zahndrekh that way....we'll see. Thank you sir.

More progress.

After their bath.

Comparison after boltgun drybrush.

After they all have a drybrush.

These 40 infintry have really made me wishI had invested in an airbrush, I think I'm about painted out for the day.

Looking good so far, I agree with Jimsolo, the ICs would really stand out in that scheme or maybe white?

Some more progress.

All the guys with their 2nd drybrush of runefang steel. Starting the arms, guns and scarabs.

All the silver work is done on everything as well as a 2nd coat of black base for the purple areas.

Soul-crushingly so...however, my silver lining and motivation is know that once I finish these warriors and scarabs, that's it for 85% of my armies infantry. After them I'll only have 5 lychguard, 5 deathmarks and 5 ICs. I should have the bulk of the purple done tonight, if not completely finish the warriors.

However here is the paint progression on the purples.

Going left to right.

Far left has the base of Naggartoh Night and has thick bands of Xerus Purple on top of that. The middle guy has a third layer of Genestealer Purple along the edes over the previous layers. The right guy has all of the previous and is washed in Druchii Violet (watered down a bit) and then I come along and do the thinnest little pencile line thick of Genestealer along the outtermost edges of the shoulders to try and make the progression pop on the highlighted edge. Now I just have to do that to the other 39 or so.

So they are close to being done, the warriors and scarabs need the finishing touches, washes and pencil highlights and to be put on scenic bases, but I think the look is really coming together. I'm trying to figure out how I want to do the barrels of the gauss flayers as well. I don't know if I should do a gradient that is a "charging" effect or do random crackling power lines, much like you see on the power weapons in all the recent codexes. Any opinions? Otherwise this.

I think they should be finished this weekend. I'll be pretty busy the rest of the week with classes and a 48hr shift on the ambulance so stay tuned.
