yeah, Today I checked the boards and they had dried but thay also bowed/warped overnight - nothing too terrible 5mm or so at the corners I turned them over before going to work hopefully gravity will sort them out...

I was thinking about making my own until I saw these little beauties
Spoiler:
These are for sale from Combat Wombat $17 for 6 turrets including postage to the UK .. I've ordered 12

I'm thinking of maybe making a huge image file with the tiles and just printing out a large map with it at the local print shop. Is there anyway you can check the dpi of the pdf file? Also, how big is the map that you're cutting/pasting together?
I just copied one of the tiles onto clip board and then pasted into paint to check the image information. Pixels 1200 x 1500 ... 96dpi hope that helps.

That's the plan later, because the board is split I should be able to rig up the trench pretty easy...
The boards warped up at the edges after they got wet pasting down the deathstar tiles. you can see that it's warped up about 10mm... not game worthy... I figured if wet paste warped it one way, wet paste could straighten it out. So I covered the back side of the boards in paste and placed heavy items to weight it down. I used box lids and Amps with small rubber feet so that the weight was applied via a small surface area that should be easy to unstick...
If this doesn't work I'll have to stick the boards down onto heavier unbeanding boards... or something...
I just wanna play, but I'm doing this right, or not doing it at all damn it!

Although I now realise that the astroid counters will look out of place, I need some deathstarish terrain/obstacles... I'm thinking dead ships / towers/ satalites?? any ideas?

yeah, Robertsjf - thanx for those, I printing this one out at work... these will look quite good if mounted on sturdy card.
How big is a turret compared to a tie fighter? I printed the turret out and the original size looks too small to offer much cover as an obstacle. (I've placed an original sized printout at the bottom of the photo) So I scaled it up (175%? I think) when printing to make this beast... it's just a test, I think I'll make the proper ones a bit smaller.
I've also been making destroyed tie fighters as obstacles. using instamold I can get quite alot of detail, and as burning wreaks the missing details are acceptable. I can pop one of these out every hour.
Still not played a game :(

OK update on wreckage markers. Out of the instamold.. Some of the trapped air makes the panels look damaged... free detailing Woot!
Most of the flash got trimmed but some looked cool enough to leave. I stuck the ships together and added extra damage with clippers and scalpel..
Sprayed and inked with some cheap non GW dipping ink...

yeah, I played against Sharazad yesterday. Also some very good news my Y-Wings came in the post today! photos of those soon.
I took some photos during the game yesterday but didn't record actions and events so no batrep sorry, just some eye candy...
She played the rebels 2x rookies 1x Red squadron Pilot with R5 1x Luke sky walker with R2D2
I played Empire 2x Acadamy pilots 2x Obsidian Squadron Pilots 1x Black Squadron Pilot 1x Darth Vader
we played a killem all game with 4 wrecks.. Empire flys up the middle in a V formation and the rebels scatter... My first game has started! black squadron Pilot gets shot up by Red squadron pilot and they crashes through the wreck losing his last hull point... Rookie 1 became known as the 'King slayer' after he takes out 2 tie fighters and Darth in three consquetive turns
The empire managed to kill Luke and a rookie before the rebles finished them off. Sharazad gave the game the thumbs up!
Next time!!!

I used 60% of the pack making those 6 wrecks and think I'll squeeze another 3-4 wrecks from what's left of the stick. It's a two part putty that comes on a stick and you mix it together just like greenstuff. You can use greenstuff but you'll have to be uber patient. This stuff cures fast! A few of my casts didn't work out, and If I'd used GS I would have been mega pissed off that I'd wasted 4 hours...
my mold process
Spoiler:
I used the instamold as a two part mold. 1st instamold press onto the ship as normal on one side covering 50-60% of the surface. Next I used a thick layer of vasaline on all exposed instamold, and poped in the fridge for 5minutes. The 2nd layer of warm instamold was then pressed onto the other side of the ship and up against the first layer of cold instamold.
with the vasaline and cold contact the second instamold should hopefully not stick to the first.
Once I'd filled the mold I rolled a pea sized bit of left over putty and placed next to the mold. When the pea was hard I knew the contents of the mold was ready.
Xwing involved three molds 1x X-wing body mold - I used the process above 2x X-wing wing molds- I used the process above on two wings. (the top wing on the left matches the right wing on the bottom & the top wing on the right matches the left wing on the bottom)
1x Tie fighter Body mold - I used the process above 1x Tie fighter Wing mold - I pressed the outside of one wing twice and trimed one mold to fit up against the other..
I bought the plastic stick as a test. I'm very happy with the results. So I've just purchased these products to test them out.

Working time:: 4-7 minutes Initial cure: 5-10 minutes ! Full cure: 60 minutes
Superfast Steel-Stick

yeah, I've only played two games, so Not so much a tactic but in the last game DarthVader was great, with his two actions a turn he launched the following alpha attack. Movement - He moved into range 1, placed a target locked plus focused. Combat - Used the lock to launch cluster missiles, two attacks with 4 dice each (normal 3 plus range 1 extra die) (correction - secondary weapons don't get extra dice) 3 dice each, and used the focus on the second attack which had lots of eyeballs.
The Y-wings vector lock was also annoying, (from a empires perspective.) I'd hate to play a Y-wing squadron, 3 Ion canons could lock the game down if they can reduce the empire to 2-3 ships.

I checked it out and your right it looks like it's almost perfect for 1/270 scale. The only dimention on the hallmark website is 4"3/4 tall which converts to 120mm
So with FFGs X-Wing 1/270 scale Height: 115 mm wings down
So height is only 5mm out, If the hallmark measurement is accurate. I've bought one on eBay when it arrives I'll measure it in all directions, but it looks perfect, thanx for the info!
JustinKase wrote:Mind sharing what colors you used for the paint ups? They look pretty spot on.
The detail colours on the ships were custom mixed till they looked right... so i can't help with those. But the basecoat and shading were; Imperials - skull white spray and then layered with this vallejo black wash. Rebel - sprayed Army Painter Skeleton Bone (bleached bone) and lightly washed with the same vallejo black wash. Its cheap £6 for 200ml http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/vallejo/washes/vallejo-washes-black-200ml/prod_4883.html Its more of a dip than a wash and i only use it on terrain.

yeah, My Turrets from Combat Wombat turned up today. Casting is ok 7/10 - a little bit sloppy but nothing a little trimming and filling wont solve. The Metal Cannons on the other hand are epic 10/10 $17 for 6 including postage to the UK not a bad deal.
...but I wont be using mine...
The size seems a bit too small for my liking... lets have a look.
Spoiler:
Double turret height looks like it would work out better...
I'm gonna make my own bigger versions. Ok lets have a look at some footage... In the first photo the lazer passes in front of the xwing so it's behind the turret... a few frames later the x-wing seems to level/past the turret. The width of the turrets look like they should be a little bit smaler than the width of an X-wing. FFGames gencon demo turrets are not very big either.. but are about 20-30%taller than combat wombats. I don't care I'm gonna make bigger than both FFG and Combat wombat... The turret of mine will be a tad shorter than the width of a x-wing. so about 20-25mm and the base size the same as the a x-wing miniature about 40mm...
Ok a a couple of photos for detail and shape.
The Turret needs a little more height so it's more square. Time to hobby up!

Hallmark Flight Mode (the mode that maters during games!) Length 75mm Height 122mm Width 120mm
Using Force.nets measurements converted to FFGs X-Wing 1/270 scale; In Flight mode the miniature should be. Length: 67mm........................ Hallmark Shuttle is 75mm - 8 mm too long - 11.9% Height: 115 mm wings down.... Hallmark Shuttle is 122mm - 7 mm too tall - 6% Width: 118 mm wings down..... Hallmark Shuttle is 120mm - 2 mm too wide - 1.6%
There are other sources that vary the measurements, but the force.nets seemed the most accurate.
I do believe that this is as close as we are getting until FFG release their version! Plus this one lights up and played the imperial March... Winning!

This is the first I've heard of anyone seeing one. I know a lot of people made the 'surprised how large it was' comment about slave1...
But if they release one - yay!
But with wave 2 including the Falcon, Slave 1, A-wing and TieInterceptor - we won't see an official FFG Lambda for quite a while yet.
Which is a shame as it's awesome! and I think really opens up the game to more stock escort/decoy/assassinate missions.
I'm in love with this lambda, and thinking about making a wreck once I get the turrets done : )
JustinKase wrote: Your work continues to impress - really loving this table
Yeah, the Hallmark ornament is just perfect for this scale (until FFG makes their own).
How tall are the tower bases and the turret tops? And what is the mm square for the top of the turrets? If you don't mind me asking
I did my working out on paper first using 2 GW bases and the height of a x-wing to decide angles... looking at the drawing I thought It looked right.
The base of the turret is a 40mm GW base with a 2mm plastic card skirt
Each bit of plastic card for the base was cut from 2mm thick card. So I cut each side 42mm wide and over lapped each time at one of the sides.
I sanded this down and gave it a second 1mm thin plastic card skirt. and sanded that down to get clean edges.
- resulting in 44mm at the bottom tappering up to 27mm at the top.
The top is a 25mm GW base with thin 1mm plastic card skirt, although this was sanded down to make the sides smooth.
resulting in it 26mm wide at the bottom up to 21mm at the top (although some sides ended up smaller than others due to sloppy cutting)...
Spoiler:
The Bottom section is hollow.
The Top section is solid filled with putty so when I can cut into it later for the gun/barrel/port/slot/gap/area things.
Progress update:
Today I drew shapes all over 'happy' and then started etching out the panels.
I got half the lower section done...

I'll get those for you when I get the top rebuilt and thanx for the comments.
I finnished off the base engraved details and started thinking more about how/if the turret will move.
I decided I wanted it to move in both axis : )
So to make top to rotate I'm going to use magnets so on top of the base I drilled a recess to install a magnet.
Getting the barrels to move up and down is a bit more complicated.
I figured I needed to build the turret as the following 5 parts;
1 x lower part
1 x upper part
1 x elevating cylinders bearing bits
2 x guns
I pulling the turret apart and started a new build.
The large wheels will be encased between lower part and upper part.

I'm hoping that because the parts are not that complicated a one piece mould will work, I might have to make release slices.
I stuck the bits down on to a bit of plastic card and built a lego house.

yeah, 14 hours later the mold looked ready. So I gave it a whirl and cast 2 turrets up the results were good. I then showed Sharazad how to mix resin and cast a turret.
I went and had a bath and when I came back, Sharazad had made 3 more. So now I have 6 turrets! woot! which is probably enough. Each turret uses 100g of resin.
There is a lot of clean up to be done with each one. I dont have a vacuum/pressure pot so there are lots of bubbles, which means lots of GS bubble filling! The moving cyclinders are very tight so they will need sanding down. I also have to figure out what I'm doing for gun barrels... I also had the thought of only half filing the base to make a couple of mini turrets

Thanx for the list. I just found time to check it out! I love how it says the Lambda is 74mm length, that makes my Lambda perfect in length! I'd love to see the other dimentions if they are in the FFG rule book. I wonder where FFG gets it's stats from?

The ships available in the base game are highlighted in green, released or announced expansions in blue. The ships in each category are sorted by size. Note that I have only added the length of the starships. The lambda shuttle, for instance, will probably be larger if you take the wingspan into account.

So I wasn't best happy with the shallow turret wrecks. Sharazad though it wasn't obvious what happened to the top bits.
So I cast another turret to use as extra conversion fodder (I can cast as many as I want muhhahahaha) to beef them up a bit.
I chopped this fella up into lots of sections and added them to the small wrecks.
Tinkers gonna Tink.
Beefed up mini wrecks...
While I had the tools out again I decided to put more holes in the tall wrecks... Just to make it more obvious they are dead.
So now they are even more shot up...
