Getting started with X-wing.
So far I've got 2 core sets plus 2 extra Ties Ties advanced and X-wings.
They look sooo good! this game can't be bad.
I've not played the game yet, First up I need to make a Game table worthy of such nice toys.
I Purchased the Star Base Trench Run PDF by SkeletonKey Games @RPGNOW.com £2.55
I Printed out 60 sheets using the lazer printer at work.
Cut with a knife.
Pasted down with paste onto 2 2'X4' thin sheets of MDF
Cool idea.. and something I may borrow. The page for the pdf doesn't really say too much techical-wise about it? I'm thinking of maybe making a huge image file with the tiles and just printing out a large map with it at the local print shop. Is there anyway you can check the dpi of the pdf file? Also, how big is the map that you're cutting/pasting together?
yeah, Today I checked the boards and they had dried but thay also bowed/warped overnight - nothing too terrible 5mm or so at the corners I turned them over before going to work hopefully gravity will sort them out...
Platuan4th wrote:Gonna make any turrets to go with it?
I was thinking about making my own until I saw these little beauties
Spoiler:
These are for sale from Combat Wombat $17 for 6 turrets including postage to the UK .. I've ordered 12

I just copied one of the tiles onto clip board and then pasted into paint to check the image information. Pixels 1200 x 1500 ... 96dpi hope that helps.
That's the plan later, because the board is split I should be able to rig up the trench pretty easy...
The boards warped up at the edges after they got wet pasting down the deathstar tiles. you can see that it's warped up about 10mm... not game worthy... I figured if wet paste warped it one way, wet paste could straighten it out. So I covered the back side of the boards in paste and placed heavy items to weight it down. I used box lids and Amps with small rubber feet so that the weight was applied via a small surface area that should be easy to unstick...
If this doesn't work I'll have to stick the boards down onto heavier unbeanding boards... or something...
I just wanna play, but I'm doing this right, or not doing it at all damn it!
yeah, The reverse side pasting&books straightened the board out nicely So the boards ready... games soon.
Although I now realise that the astroid counters will look out of place, I need some deathstarish terrain/obstacles... I'm thinking dead ships / towers/ satalites?? any ideas?
Agreed about towers working best. If you wanted to keep going with the WWII dogfighting in spaaaace! theme that star wars has, you could put up some scifi barrage balloons instead!

yeah, Robertsjf - thanx for those, I printing this one out at work... these will look quite good if mounted on sturdy card.
How big is a turret compared to a tie fighter? I printed the turret out and the original size looks too small to offer much cover as an obstacle. (I've placed an original sized printout at the bottom of the photo) So I scaled it up (175%? I think) when printing to make this beast... it's just a test, I think I'll make the proper ones a bit smaller.
I've also been making destroyed tie fighters as obstacles. using instamold I can get quite alot of detail, and as burning wreaks the missing details are acceptable. I can pop one of these out every hour.
robertsjf wrote: Tie Fighters make wreckage? I thought they just disintegrated into brightly colored blast clouds that I can buzz my x-wing through!
with a lot of space shuttles in real life, I suppose there is a lot of space waste. To be honest I prefer looking at a x-wing wreckage than an awefully painted piece of cotton or a piece of
carton representing a blast/explosion. I suppose same with tanks, that the whole this doesn't vanish in the thin air.
I'm curious what you're going to to with them Panic. Are you going to put the wreckage together like your other wreckage models, or are these going to be singular pieces on small
bases? Looking forward on the paint job on them, if at all
Oh and Panic.... one who makes a board for playing, will not play right away rookie mistake of not playing the game the day it arrived
As for the towers size, the guns should be wide enough for an x-wing to get in between I think, as in the movie they complain that the x-wings are too small to shoot down and there's also a scene where the x-wing flies past the turret and looks quite small.... Would slap it up but on my phone atm :(
I played a few games last wed its really fun a bit like forge worlds aeronautica game with out the speed and altitude being set vaules and shooting being alot beter than aero
with a lot of space shuttles in real life, I suppose there is a lot of space waste.
You have no idea. There's an entire orbit band around Earth dedicated to waste and dead satellites because you don't want that debris floating around where your useable satellites are. And there's a section of the Air Force that tracks it ALL. They had a conniption fit when an astronaut on EVA dropped his tool pouch and everything went floating around.
robertsjf wrote:Tie Fighters make wreckage? I thought they just disintegrated into brightly colored blast clouds that I can buzz my x-wing through!
There's gotta be a few wreaks up there!
Sharazad wrote:I suppose same with tanks, that the whole this doesn't vanish in the thin air...
Exactly!

And it gives the rebels extra defence dice!

I'm working on it!!! I must be the only person who buys a pre painted game and then takes weeks to get started!
OK update on wreckage markers. Out of the instamold.. Some of the trapped air makes the panels look damaged... free detailing Woot!
Most of the flash got trimmed but some looked cool enough to leave. I stuck the ships together and added extra damage with clippers and scalpel..
Sprayed and inked with some cheap non GW dipping ink...
Next I will paint in some areas to match the prepaints. but not too much effort and then stick onto clear bases... Plus I'm really hoping that tomorrow I will get to play the game!
yeah, Last Saturday night I was little bit drunk in the pub, and I bought a Lambda on eBay... for £4.50 incuding postage on ebay. But it's too small...
yeah, I played against Sharazad yesterday. Also some very good news my Y-Wings came in the post today! photos of those soon.
I took some photos during the game yesterday but didn't record actions and events so no batrep sorry, just some eye candy...
She played the rebels 2x rookies 1x Red squadron Pilot with R5 1x Luke sky walker with R2D2
I played Empire 2x Acadamy pilots 2x Obsidian Squadron Pilots 1x Black Squadron Pilot 1x Darth Vader
we played a killem all game with 4 wrecks.. Empire flys up the middle in a V formation and the rebels scatter... My first game has started! black squadron Pilot gets shot up by Red squadron pilot and they crashes through the wreck losing his last hull point... Rookie 1 became known as the 'King slayer' after he takes out 2 tie fighters and Darth in three consquetive turns
The empire managed to kill Luke and a rookie before the rebles finished them off. Sharazad gave the game the thumbs up!
Apparently that xwing is firing so much it needs two range rulers! The game looks fun and the board looks great. Looking at the gameplay space, I do think it will be improved though with the turrets you're working on.

scipio.au wrote:Looks really good all around. What material did you use for the wrecks? I have some instant mold here somewhere...
It's a great product from Sylmasta - dries hard and can be demolded in 30 minutes. It's the blue one half way down this page - PLASTIC STICK I used 60% of the pack making those 6 wrecks and think I'll squeeze another 3-4 wrecks from what's left of the stick. It's a two part putty that comes on a stick and you mix it together just like greenstuff. You can use greenstuff but you'll have to be uber patient. This stuff cures fast! A few of my casts didn't work out, and If I'd used GS I would have been mega pissed off that I'd wasted 4 hours...
my mold process
Spoiler:
I used the instamold as a two part mold. 1st instamold press onto the ship as normal on one side covering 50-60% of the surface. Next I used a thick layer of vasaline on all exposed instamold, and poped in the fridge for 5minutes. The 2nd layer of warm instamold was then pressed onto the other side of the ship and up against the first layer of cold instamold.
with the vasaline and cold contact the second instamold should hopefully not stick to the first.
Once I'd filled the mold I rolled a pea sized bit of left over putty and placed next to the mold. When the pea was hard I knew the contents of the mold was ready.
Xwing involved three molds 1x X-wing body mold - I used the process above 2x X-wing wing molds- I used the process above on two wings. (the top wing on the left matches the right wing on the bottom & the top wing on the right matches the left wing on the bottom)
1x Tie fighter Body mold - I used the process above 1x Tie fighter Wing mold - I pressed the outside of one wing twice and trimed one mold to fit up against the other..
I bought the plastic stick as a test. I'm very happy with the results. So I've just purchased these products to test them out.
Spoiler:
Superfast Aluminium-Stick Working time:: 4-7 minutes Initial cure: 5-10 minutes ! Full cure: 60 minutes
Superfast Steel-Stick Working time: 3 minutes ! Initial cure: 5-10 minutes !! Full cure: 60 minutes
And back on topic -I'm at work today and if the phone doesn't ring I'm going to make both a Y-wing and Advanced Tie wreck.
yeah, I've only played two games, so Not so much a tactic but in the last game DarthVader was great, with his two actions a turn he launched the following alpha attack. Movement - He moved into range 1, placed a target locked plus focused. Combat - Used the lock to launch cluster missiles, two attacks with 4 dice each (normal 3 plus range 1 extra die) (correction - secondary weapons don't get extra dice) 3 dice each, and used the focus on the second attack which had lots of eyeballs.
The Y-wings vector lock was also annoying, (from a empires perspective.) I'd hate to play a Y-wing squadron, 3 Ion canons could lock the game down if they can reduce the empire to 2-3 ships.

Remember you don't get the +1 for range 1 on secondary weapons.
As far as a noob can say that going no faster than speed 3 seems to work when I played rebels.
Because you can't predict what someone else is doing you can easily manoeuvre away or towards the enemy,
Especially when your enemy tends to move fast and/or does stressful manoeuvres.

Aye, my bro got that one off on poor Garven Dreis, suffice to say he was sufficiantly wasted by the barrage Y-Wings really rule but I would never be good enough to use them on their own without X-wing support, sure you can cripple 3 ships a turn but the maximum damage you can cause is 1 :( so you'll be taking your time while the other half of the imp force bears down on you....
It's also really funny when you get landed a damage card that makes all turning maneuvers red for Y-Wings Turns into a Koiogan fest!

And don't underestimate rookie pilots hahahaha
This.
I found that too, it pays off to take your time with the rebels, if your up close go slow cos:
1) You will win 1v1 close range fire fights
2) A correct prediction of a slow turn will generally land you on a TIE's ass at range 1
I like rookie's too. Give Wedge swarm tactics, just putting it out there
yeah, I completed a Destroyed Tie Advanced today... the Death of Darth!
Mold process.
Spoiler:
When casting the wing I used a 3 piece mold. it also captured part of the hull orb, so when the putty was in the mold I made the interior structure impresions with my scalpel and a bolt.
Boom!
I can't wait until A-wing and Tie-Interceptor are released so I can wreck those too!

I checked it out and your right it looks like it's almost perfect for 1/270 scale. The only dimention on the hallmark website is 4"3/4 tall which converts to 120mm
So with FFGs X-Wing 1/270 scale Height: 115 mm wings down
So height is only 5mm out, If the hallmark measurement is accurate. I've bought one on eBay when it arrives I'll measure it in all directions, but it looks perfect, thanx for the info!
JustinKase wrote:Mind sharing what colors you used for the paint ups? They look pretty spot on.
The detail colours on the ships were custom mixed till they looked right... so i can't help with those. But the basecoat and shading were; Imperials - skull white spray and then layered with this vallejo black wash. Rebel - sprayed Army Painter Skeleton Bone (bleached bone) and lightly washed with the same vallejo black wash. Its cheap £6 for 200ml http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/vallejo/washes/vallejo-washes-black-200ml/prod_4883.html Its more of a dip than a wash and i only use it on terrain.

Panic,
I'm going to pretend like you didn't post this and eagerly look forward to your falcon and slave wrecks. Just like everyone else who subscribes to this thread. Don't disappoint your interweb buddies!
yeah, My Turrets from Combat Wombat turned up today. Casting is ok 7/10 - a little bit sloppy but nothing a little trimming and filling wont solve. The Metal Cannons on the other hand are epic 10/10 $17 for 6 including postage to the UK not a bad deal.
...but I wont be using mine...
The size seems a bit too small for my liking... lets have a look.
Spoiler:
Double turret height looks like it would work out better...
I'm gonna make my own bigger versions. Ok lets have a look at some footage... In the first photo the lazer passes in front of the xwing so it's behind the turret... a few frames later the x-wing seems to level/past the turret. The width of the turrets look like they should be a little bit smaler than the width of an X-wing. FFGames gencon demo turrets are not very big either.. but are about 20-30%taller than combat wombats. I don't care I'm gonna make bigger than both FFG and Combat wombat... The turret of mine will be a tad shorter than the width of a x-wing. so about 20-25mm and the base size the same as the a x-wing miniature about 40mm...
Ok a a couple of photos for detail and shape.
The Turret needs a little more height so it's more square. Time to hobby up!
yeah,
I decided not to use the Turrets from Combat Wombat : (
And make my own Bigger Turrets.
Using Plastic Card around a 40mm base for the bottom shape and a 20mm for the top turret.
Tall enough to hide behind Very happy with It.
Excited! Tomorrow detailing the surfaces and then hopefully making a silicone mold..
The plan is to be Casting up a set of 6 or so by the end of the week.
Hallmark Flight Mode (the mode that maters during games!) Length 75mm Height 122mm Width 120mm
Using Force.nets measurements converted to FFGs X-Wing 1/270 scale; In Flight mode the miniature should be. Length: 67mm........................ Hallmark Shuttle is 75mm - 8 mm too long - 11.9% Height: 115 mm wings down.... Hallmark Shuttle is 122mm - 7 mm too tall - 6% Width: 118 mm wings down..... Hallmark Shuttle is 120mm - 2 mm too wide - 1.6%
There are other sources that vary the measurements, but the force.nets seemed the most accurate.
I do believe that this is as close as we are getting until FFG release their version! Plus this one lights up and played the imperial March... Winning!
I think FFG will be releasing one pretty soon, as I recall someone saw one at GenCon and remarked that they were surprised at how large it was, so this one is probably exactly right.
precinctomega wrote: ...as I recall someone saw one at GenCon and remarked that they were surprised at how large it was, so this one is probably exactly right.R.
This is the first I've heard of anyone seeing one. I know a lot of people made the 'surprised how large it was' comment about slave1...
But if they release one - yay!
But with wave 2 including the Falcon, Slave 1, A-wing and TieInterceptor - we won't see an official FFG Lambda for quite a while yet.
Which is a shame as it's awesome! and I think really opens up the game to more stock escort/decoy/assassinate missions.
I'm in love with this lambda, and thinking about making a wreck once I get the turrets done : )
JustinKase wrote: Your work continues to impress - really loving this table Yeah, the Hallmark ornament is just perfect for this scale (until FFG makes their own).
How tall are the tower bases and the turret tops? And what is the mm square for the top of the turrets? If you don't mind me asking
I did my working out on paper first using 2 GW bases and the height of a x-wing to decide angles... looking at the drawing I thought It looked right.
The base of the turret is a 40mm GW base with a 2mm plastic card skirt
Each bit of plastic card for the base was cut from 2mm thick card. So I cut each side 42mm wide and over lapped each time at one of the sides.
I sanded this down and gave it a second 1mm thin plastic card skirt. and sanded that down to get clean edges.
- resulting in 44mm at the bottom tappering up to 27mm at the top.
The top is a 25mm GW base with thin 1mm plastic card skirt, although this was sanded down to make the sides smooth.
resulting in it 26mm wide at the bottom up to 21mm at the top (although some sides ended up smaller than others due to sloppy cutting)...
Spoiler:
The Bottom section is hollow.
The Top section is solid filled with putty so when I can cut into it later for the gun/barrel/port/slot/gap/area things.
Progress update:
Today I drew shapes all over 'happy' and then started etching out the panels.
I got half the lower section done...
Thanks for that - any chance of a measurement of the long sides of skirts as well? Both base and turret? I'm thinking about trying this out as well
The pencil details are looking really good - you using a scribing tool to 'etch' out the panels?
You do some seriously fantastic work!
Hope you don't mind - but I posted a link to this thread in the customs forums over there - along with PeteParkerh's giant Cardboard ISD - this is a board I'd love to play on
EDIT: We have a discussion on Lambda shuttle stats going on at the A Few Maneuvers site, along with a cutout token for those that don't have the Ornament.
JustinKase wrote: Thanks for that - any chance of a measurement of the long sides of skirts as well? Both base and turret? I'm thinking about trying this out as well
I'll get those for you when I get the top rebuilt and thanx for the comments.
I finnished off the base engraved details and started thinking more about how/if the turret will move.
I decided I wanted it to move in both axis : )
So to make top to rotate I'm going to use magnets so on top of the base I drilled a recess to install a magnet.
Getting the barrels to move up and down is a bit more complicated.
I figured I needed to build the turret as the following 5 parts;
1 x lower part
1 x upper part
1 x elevating cylinders bearing bits
2 x guns
I pulling the turret apart and started a new build.
The large wheels will be encased between lower part and upper part.
Progress on mine... I've finished the structures.
I'm hoping that because the parts are not that complicated a one piece mould will work, I might have to make release slices.
I stuck the bits down on to a bit of plastic card and built a lego house.
95% white to 5% blue...
And 24 hours to wait till I know if the mold worked...
yeah, 14 hours later the mold looked ready. So I gave it a whirl and cast 2 turrets up the results were good. I then showed Sharazad how to mix resin and cast a turret.
I went and had a bath and when I came back, Sharazad had made 3 more. So now I have 6 turrets! woot! which is probably enough. Each turret uses 100g of resin.
There is a lot of clean up to be done with each one. I dont have a vacuum/pressure pot so there are lots of bubbles, which means lots of GS bubble filling! The moving cyclinders are very tight so they will need sanding down. I also have to figure out what I'm doing for gun barrels... I also had the thought of only half filing the base to make a couple of mini turrets
On some of the scale model forums they use brass tubing that is then 'belled' out on the end to add a touch of realism. Yeah, I just used the word realism about a a space turret
I really like how your destroyed ships look, and the turrets are great too.
Having played and been disappointed in WotC's Star Wars Starship Battles miniature game, I have been very interested in X-Wing since it came out.
And after seeing that the Lamba ornament that I have in my attic is the right scale for this game, I think it has moved up on my list of games to try next.
I really LOVE what you are doing with this game, showing us all how a great scenery really turns a simple game into a whole experience. I'll be watching this, that's for sure!
Our local games club is running a large game of this for christmas. I've found the star wars collector fleet blockade runner is the same scale as the ships in the boxed game for something 'bigger' to hunt at around 17".
Just needs a shorter stand making for it due to xwing being a 2d game.
Basically give it hit points to be taken out (weapons, shields etc) while one side attacks and the other defends.
More stuff done today. I can cast as many turrets as I want quite quickly, the resin I'm using mixes up and sets within 5 mins although I give it another 5minutes... I cast 6 more turrets and then I destroyed them!
Spoiler:
I Cast 3 turrets with bits of foam (saturated in vaseline) placed/stuffed into them to make them easier to break up. I also casted another three lower sections using the master and a space wedge (covered in vaseline) to create hollow turret bases.
Results. Dead Turrets!! The tops half has been blown away!
Thanx for the list. I just found time to check it out! I love how it says the Lambda is 74mm length, that makes my Lambda perfect in length! I'd love to see the other dimentions if they are in the FFG rule book. I wonder where FFG gets it's stats from?
Spoiler:
beorthulf gudmunsoetir @BoardGameGeek wrote: Here is a list of SW starships with their in-game scale, using 1/270 scale (1cm : 2.70m) as described in FFG rulebook (p26). The ships available in the base game are highlighted in green, released or announced expansions in blue. The ships in each category are sorted by size. Note that I have only added the length of the starships. The lambda shuttle, for instance, will probably be larger if you take the wingspan into account.
XQ3 Platform (891m) : 330.0cm (3.30m) Golan I (1231m) : 455.9cm (4.56m) - Golan space defense platform Azzameen Station (1450m) : 537.0cm (5.37m) Starforge Station (6000m) : 2222.2cm (22.22m) Cloud city (16200m) : 6000cm (60.0m) Death star 1 (160km) : 59259.3cm (592.59m) - that's no moon, it's a space station Death star 2 (900km ) : 333333.3cm (3333.33m)
So I wasn't best happy with the shallow turret wrecks. Sharazad though it wasn't obvious what happened to the top bits.
So I cast another turret to use as extra conversion fodder (I can cast as many as I want muhhahahaha) to beef them up a bit.
I chopped this fella up into lots of sections and added them to the small wrecks.
Tinkers gonna Tink.
Beefed up mini wrecks...
While I had the tools out again I decided to put more holes in the tall wrecks... Just to make it more obvious they are dead.
So now they are even more shot up...
And started messing about with paint...
I undercoat sprayed black then dusted with 2 coats of white on the outside.
Next I hit them with the vallejo wash and then some slate model maker spray.
The guy at the front has been give some drybrushing with citadel greys and black.
Followed with targeted black inks...
The dry brush looks really good. That little more effort paid off I think. It was a good idea to make them bigger. The also all look different from each other which for grey static objects (even when positioned differently) is not always a given.
Are you going to do more or was that it?
Maybe some colour damage from the paint of the ships? I would love to see a picture of one of these wrecks with one of the wrecks of the ships. Like it just happened.
I think your dust idea was good, it gives them an extra dimension and a more realistic feel.
So yeah conclusion it is very eye pleasing IMO.
They look good and I like the center one as well, my only comment is that they look like Stone and not Death Star metal.
I also like the Mini Wreaks the way they were before. They exploded and the debris floated off into space. I also think there should be some wires and cables and broken machinery inside.
yeah, 1) FFGs factory in china has a problem and wave 2 has been delayed till February. 2) A millenium Falcon sold for $250 on eBay. 3) I spent the morning crying into my cornflakes...
These events are not unrelated.
I decided to take a break from turret work. I printed some more Deathstar, this time on sticky back plastic.
I used some to fix scuffs and tears in my board. And some more to cover simple 3D boxes made out of foam core.
Photos : )
I've not entirely worked out what the purpose of the 3D death blocks are... yet.
But they can be used to mark out a reduced area for standard games and make them more umm 3D. Using the turrets and 3D death boxes I've marked out a 3' x 3' area, and used 6 wrecks as asteroids... So this is pretty close to a tournament table but in 3D?
Never played X-wing, but always been interested to when seeing some of the guys at my flgs play... Your work definitely makes it much more appealing! The table and turrets look sick!
The barrel fell over / moved while the mold was setting. So the part is in there just not where it should be.
It'll take a little while to try and save... I'll have a go at that later.
Yeah,
Second barrel mold worked better.
I used a cone counter to make a funnel and hold the bit in place for the silicone.
Had to break the pot to get the mold out.
There is a bubble at the tip so each barrel needs to be hollowed out manually...
My god... For a simple little game of toy planes you have created stuff that looks good enough to be in the films (the originals, obviously). Thanks for sharing!
Looks great! So how did you get the barrel out of the mold? Did you cut the mold in half length or widthwise? Or something else entirely? I'm a total nub.
Thought you might find this interesting - I picked up some of the CorSec bases, stands and mounts.
This is a 80mm mount, with the nubs, and a 2" pole - for the Hallmark Lambda Shuttle:
It actually does not over lap the width of the base by all that much. Working on a card for the base as well.
If I have one complaint - after testing on a similar 40mm CorSec base - it is that the pilot token cards swivel on the base a little too easily (though there is a plastic washer insert that does help with keeping it centered properly).
Awesomesauce wrote:Looks great! So how did you get the barrel out of the mold? Did you cut the mold in half length or widthwise? Or something else entirely? I'm a total nub.
They just pull out, i spray release agent in there and the silicone stretches enough to allow the part out.
Styrofoam04 wrote:...my only comment is that they look like Stone and not Death Star metal... .. I also think there should be some wires and cables and broken machinery inside...
I agree, I've tried a more solid colour scheme see below. some cogs would look nice, but i think i'm going to skip it the turrets are taking long enough for some terrain!
JustinKase wrote:Thought you might find this interesting - I picked up some of the CorSec bases, stands and mounts.
I really like the asteroid ones, but I'm not sure about the metal poles as all the ship models have plastic poles. Thanx for the photo looks great!
OK so progressed a little today. mixed up some GW Mechanicus Standard Grey base foundation paint with various ammounts of white and painted the model with more wet paint. as dry brushing was making the turrets look too much like stone.
Next I was going to just black out all the damaged areas... smoke and soot! But then decided to use colour so that the damage has just happened. I used foundation khorne red followed by modemates liquid mud. then picked out some bits with bright troll slayer orange and skull white. and washed with modelmates liquid rust.
I also realised that the top of the turrets is blank and needs something...
yeah,
I got the Full set of DEAD turrets painted dead today.
how I painted them dead.
Spoiler:
-GW Mechanicus Standard Grey base foundation paint with various ammounts of white.
-foundation khorne red in the damaged areas
-cover the red with modemates Liquid mud.
-Skull white edging on the burn bits as a base for a orange layer.
-bright troll slayer orange
-then small bits of skull white
-Liberal wash with modelmates liquid rust.
Next stage was done quickly so that I pulled some of the black onto the grey...
- I paint the black lines with a mix of chaos black and badab black and then wipe down the surface with a wet tissue...
- The water wipes away lots of the modelmates and exposes the white orange and grey under it.
- small bits of almost dry badab black also stains/streaks the grey ... I use up and down motion to get streaks...
more photos of details...

And having a little play around checking out how the look on the board.
These look really awesome and it looks like a really fun game.
Have you thought of making some massive capital ships (like Mon Calamari or a Star Destroyer) for the little guys to fly around? I should imagine that because of the scale you would only fit half a Star Destroyer down one half of the table though.. maybe you could make a custom mission where the TIE Fighters have to defend the Start Destroyer from the Y-Wings or something.. so much potential for Star Wars Awesomeness!!!!
yeah that was my first atempt at doing the melta'd metal effect and I was just winging it to test out the modelmates products.
Nerm86 wrote:These look really awesome and it looks like a really fun game.
Thanx, yeah the game is good and I'm surprised by the tactical abilitys the game has - with the variation the character pilots give squad building.

yeah your correct those ships are so big they would be the game surface!
yeah,
Turrets are on the home straights now.
Today I completed building them.
The turrets are connected to the body with magnets, The Turret are assembled and the guns go up and down and around.
They're stiff to move vertically, I'm not sure it was worth the extra effort.
I've washed them in hot soapy water to get the release agent off.
If the world hasn't ended I'll get them painted tomorrow!
Turrets look much rougher than I thought... I'd redo them if I wasn't bored of them already!
At this point I just want to get them painted and move on to other projects I've lined up.
yeah,
The only Kessel Run near me actually giving away the prizes was postponed till January :(
The other one decided they would not be giving away the prizes! Punks!

Panic...
I actually suspected that you started the FFG thread about that but I try not to "out" people's avatars on different boards when possible! Too bad.. they missed out on some nice terrain they could have used for flavor (even if it was just a ruined turret tower substituting in for an asteroid!).
We just had the Kessel Run Tournament at my LGS. Some of the things A-Wings and Intercerptors can do are pretty nasty. The Rebels now can do swarms with the A-wing. Heck the upgrade cards you get with the Falcon and Slave 1 are pretty good. The Falcon has much better stats than they Rookie YT-1300 pilot.
I bought a Litko large space flight base for my Lambda. For £5.50 you get the large base, a short pole and three fitting, Annoyingly litko has branded the base... although this isn't a problem if you use a YT1300 or FireSpray card insert
The base is the same length as the official base but 2 mm short on the width. The plastic insert was very tight fitting into the YT1300 card insert. the official base has ridges along the sides that the Litko base does not.
I only glued the Plastic fitting onto the bottom of the Lambda, the rest of the assembly was tight fitting and didn't require glue. The biggest problem is that the pole is too short and the Lambdas wings almost touch the board.
Summary. The base as pretty good. It's a shame the base is branded and the pole too short. A extra inch would have ment the Lamdba's cockpit would have been the same height as the YT1300s and FireSprays, and the Lambdas wings would be up off the board.
Panic Rating - 6/10 -1 for branding the base… not needed. -3 for the short pole… a selection of lengths would have been ideal or one long pole that could be cut to length.
I think I might use the outter rim smuggler profile for the lambda along side a YT1300 The weaker profile makes sense!

Panic...
Did you report the latter to FFG, Panic?
Also, are you planning on attending any of the X-Wing Regionals events?
yeah, Sharazad and me played this fan made scenario.
I set up the Asteroids (ship wrecks) mostly behind the Falcon with one in front of each tie fighter zone. Sharazad placed all the Tie Fighters facing inwards.
"Come on, buddy, We're not out of this yet!"
Skill 9 - Han shoots first and The Dark Curse is taken out early. And then Millennium Falcon comes under intense fire loosing all it's shields and takes hits. Chewbacca restores the hull to 7 damage and 1 shield. Luke takes out Mauler Mithel putting a end to his damage streak.
"Got him! I got him!" "Great kid! Don't get cocky."
Winged Gundark gets in close and and gets a couple of critical damage hits in before he dies. leaving the final show down between the Falcon with 3 hull points and an academy pilot with 2 hull points. The Academy pilot was outgunned and easily destroyed...
The Falcon Escapes the DeathStar. "Not a bad bit of rescuing, huh? You know, sometimes I even amaze myself."
Nicorex wrote: That was too easy. Sharazad let you go, She's tracking you.
Clearly... She even admits it in her location! Nice board as always and interesting asteroids. I would have thought it would go the other way though. How did the point totals on each side compare?
Yeah,
Both squadrons are exactly 60pts, So it's a fair fight!?
At first 4 on 1 seemed unfair but;
The Falcon can take some hits.
Luke on guns meant the falcon got a second attempt to do damage each turn if the first attack failed.
The 360• turret on the falcon meant it almost always got to fire.
In the end the falcon had only 3 hull left so it was a fairly close game.
I've finally bought a regular star map.. so I can play away from the surface of the deathstar!
I found a new seller on facebook and requesed a red star map 4'x4' with a 3'x3' area marked out within with a thin red line.
It Arrived Today.
Photos! - I didn't have an opponent to play with so I just set up a mock game.
unrolled very easy and sat very flat straight away. one corner sort of stuck up a little.
I rolled it the other way for 10 sec and then it stayed flat.
you can see lines in the material that banner/poster is printed on but this doesn't detract from the look too much.
Also the room I was in was very bright when I took these photos.
Pew Pew!
It's a Trap!

yeah,
My first game played on my BloodWine 4x4' (inc 3x3') mat.
The mat is on a slightly uneven board, which created a few wrinkles but these were minor and nothing to do with the mat itself.
The BloodWine star design greatly improves the games immersion without being distracting.
The 3x3' play area is very easy to see and having the 6" edge around the outside to place templates, tokens and cards is a real boon.
There was no ship slippage during the game, a very satisfying surface to play on.
The photos arn't great as i was playing at overlords and the hall is a little dark.
My opponent was notprop, sadly we didn't get to finish the game.
but he had inflicted more damage than I had and takes the moral victory!
yeah, I went to The Titans Wargames Club, in north London for the first time last night. A lovely friendly group with many x-wing players! Paired up with another Titans first timer Andrew and we played 2 games. Andrew played Imperials so I played rebels.
1) Elite Imperials vs Rookie Rebels. - A really tight game, but in the end it came down to a dog fight between a x-wing Rookie and Darth! ...Vader destroyed him quickly. Imperial Victory.
2) 6 TIE Imperial swarm Vs Wedge with 3 ship back up Wedge was an absolute monster during this game! Rebel Win.
I brought my deathstar board and turrets and got some nice feedback on those. We used the destroyed turrents as asteroids.
I took some photos during the first game.
At the end of the night we had a cool discussion about how to use the fully operational turrets during a game.
The Idea I liked was to make the turrets a card and make them available to imperials.
Pilot skill 0 Stationary ship Agility 0 Attack 3 - blaster - Range 1-2 - 90˚ firing arc. Hull ?
being pilot skill 0 is a great idea! It doesn't need a dial, the Turrets can all be simply be rotated to whatever facing it wants before pilot skill1 is moved. This way turrets to try and track rebel ships before the imperial player finds out where the rebel ships move.
How many hull points should it be given? I feel at least 4... maybe 6? They don't move and can't dodge...
Points ?? I don’t know… 7pts? 3+ of these could cause a bit of trouble.
Games of War recently launched their 3d asteroids. They look very good and have sexy acrylic bases.
I thought those sexy bases would be great under my wrecks!
A quick PM and a few emails, a little bit of paypal and three sets popped through my letter box! Huzzah!
Nice crisp cut shapes and sturdy 3mm pegs. Lovely.
I dremmeled out 3mm holes in the underside of my shipwrecks. I played about working out which wreck would look best on which asteroid shape. A little bit of green stuff and super glue and they were ready for action. The bottom of the pegs fits real tight in the base holes so I didn't need to glue that. The peg and ship can be easily separated from the base if required? for overlapping?
What they look like on a gale force 9 space mat.
I also made some optional tokens to place under the bases. When a ship is about to overlap I can lift the asteroid up and leave the token behind. Some 1mm clear tokens would be even better!
foto69man wrote: Hmmm...payday is Thursday, Empire or Rebels...sell me on it and which?
It's a fun game, quick to set up, simple to play and entry costs aren't huge. Shop around and £50 should get you 2 core sets which I'd argue is a must.
As for Empire or Rebels, I get both. For me, it's not really a game where you choose a faction. Build up your both fleets so you can field 4-6 ships per side (about 100pts which is standard) and when you play games, play as one faction first and then swap around. That way you're getting the most out of the game.
That's my approach anyway. YMMV
Oh and don't get drawn into stupid prices for individual ships just because they're currently not available. Be patient and they will pop up sooner or later.
Thanks for the battle reports . I watched my first games last night when I stopped by the flgs, so glad I got into the game, but I had left my stuff at home not expecting them to be playing tonight. I've got a few hours till work today so I think I'm going to break out the instant mold and have a try at your awesome destroyed ships. Also thanks for all the tips on your other posts with painting the edges of the rulers and storage solutions. I think I'm just going to use the rulers in the boxes now instead of buying the plastic ones, and I'm holding off on a storage box until I see what sort of army I will be fielding and where I need to expand too.
Really enjoying this thread Panic! Keep up the good work. I use a KR case to ferry my stuff about. So much better than the numerous boxes I had previously! The one downside to this game is all the bits and bobs you need to play (i.e. tokens etc)
