yeah,
I went to the Fly Casual Tournament.
12th January 2014 - London

My list was
Wedge - X-Wing - R2D2 - Swarm Tactics
Rookie - X-Wing
Blue Squadron - B-Wing
Blue Squadron - B-Wing

I also brought my ship wreck asteroids and asked before each game if my opponent minded if I placed those on the asteroid tokens, to make photos look cool.

6 Games - Huzzah I was excited!

And to make the morning even better I was given a Star Wars chocolate cake from a guy called Niko
Spoiler:
Sir, Rebel ships are coming into our sector.
-Good. Our first catch of the day NomNomNom

Game 1 - Damian

1 - Luke - X-Wing
Rookie - X-Wing
Rookie - X-Wing
Tycho - A-Wing

I deployed as a group and I flew up the left.
He deployed in two groups that reconnected with each other for a dog fight in the ship graveyard asteroid field.

His luke Skywalker got beached on an asteroid for two turns and lost both shields! this gave me the firepower advantage.
I got in early kills and Damian takes out 1 B-wing but wasn't able to recover from this disadvantage and I amazingly Won my first game!

Win 100pts - 78pts

-

Game 2 - vs Neil a tournament veteran!

Biggs - X-Wing
Blue Squadron - Advanced Sensors
Blue Squadron - Advanced Sensors
Rebel operative - HWK - Ion Turret

Extremely nice guy - I told him I hadn't played that many games before (maybe 8) and that my first game was a fluke!
He trained me in the ways of the force! ... well into a good pattern of 'move action' 'move action' 'move action'

We set up opposite each other and we traded blows in a manly fashion, I made a mistake of turning out from the joust!
This cost me actions and targets...

His Hwk Ion cannoned first my xwing keeping it pointed away from the fight.
The Hwk Then switched target to one of my B-wings and Ion'ed it off the table
I fought back and destroyed the HWK
We exchanged blows until there were only two ships left!
- I had a crippled B-wing vs his full health B-wing with advanced sensors and I was beat!
Lost 73pts - 100pts.

Good game!

-

Game 3 -

I don't like talking about game three...

.
.
Ok

Game 3 vs Gary Elliot.
Imperial swarm... Gary was a friendly chap, also a competent tournament goer.

I didn't know what to do... Fly straight at them and shoot?

I was Blasted to bits!!!

Lesson Learned!
Never fly straight for a swarm!!
Lost 12pts - 100pts

-

Game 4 vs Jonny
Major Rhymer - Tie bomber - Push The Limit - Advanced Proton Torpedoes
Howlrunner - Tie Fighter - Stealth Device
Dark Curse - Tie Fighter
Winged Gundark - Tie Fighter
Academy Pilot - Tie Fighter

The first thing that happened in this game is Rhymers targeting computer had a glitch!
The bomber Major Rhymers moved into range 3 of wedge, Jonny though Wedge had already moved so didn't target lock him!
When I moved Wedge into range 1 he realised his mistake, I told him that's a game changer, and that he could have the target Lock.
Jonny bravely refused saying that mistakes like that should stay... Wedge over the next few turns systematically stripped Rhymers of his hull points punishing him for the error!

The rest of Johnny's squadron performed equally badly... the dice hated Jonny.
A shame as we had a few good laughs during the game and he was a joy to play...

Win 100pts vs 0pts

-

Game 5 Vs Vinny
Blue Squadron -B-Wing- Advanced Sensors
Blue Squadron -B-Wing- Advanced Sensors
Blue Squadron -B-Wing- Advanced Sensors
Rookie - X-Wing

The game is fairly matched until Wedge makes a wrong turn! (l set the dial for a right turn when I wanted him to turn left.)
Vinnys see's Wedge with his back turned and takes him out of the game!

I manage a couple of kills to even the tables
so we have a 4 Blue squadron Fight!

A very enjoyable game of b-wing jousting.
I had more shields - but His Advanced sensors meant he can could focus before kTurning.
And it came down to the final dice...The sensors edge give Vinny the game!

Lost 75pts - 100pts

-

Game 6 vs Liam
Soontir fel - interceptor - stealth device
Turr Phennir - interceptor - stealth device
Lambda Shuttle - Reble captive

Sorry no photos of the final round :(

I concentrated Fire on Turr Phennir untill he was dead.
I then ignored Soontir and concentrated my fire on the shuttle!

Soontir picked off the rookie at the edge of the group concentrating on the shuttle.

The rookie was small loss when the Shuttle finally exploded.
I now had two heavily damaged bwings and wedge against soontir!
I was confident!

Soontir out manouvered me at every turn and I couldn't land the shots!
He killed both B-wings... but I still had Wedge and we lined up for a joust.

Wedge vs Soontir !! Exciting times! But saddly game time was called.

Wedge was worth more points so I won the game!

67pts - 65pts

A small Win!

3 Wins
3 Losses
I finished up 16th on this my first xwing tournament.
487pts killed vs 387pts Lost -- a positive kill ratio!
I had a great time, I had 6 amazingly nice opponents and 6 Fun games thanks guys!
I met some great people who I hope to see / play again.

A big thanx to Chris the organiser for a great event run very smoothly, I think everyone had Fun!
He sells space mats check them out!

Cool report and congrats . Your blog is getting me to really think about investing big into x-wing. Wish I could get one of those 4'x6' mats shipped to the US though .

As I am the aforementioned Jonny from Game 4 I can state that this round was possibly the worst game of X-Wing I have ever played, and I was outmatched and outgunned!

However it was good fun, and I learnt an important lesson: Watch out for Wedge!

Also just to clarify my list was as follows:

Major Rhymer + Push The Limit + Advanced Proton Torpedoes
Howlrunner + Stealth Device
Dark Curse
Winged Gundark
Academy Pilot

The thing I found with this list is that it's just too squidgy. There's nothing in there that can soak up punishment while your TIEs out flank your opponent. In reflection I should have taken a Firespray-31 instead of a TIE Bomber. Which was a list I ran at the last tournament I went to and got a W:L ratio of 3:3, instead of the 1:5 I got this time round!

With Imperial Aces hopefully landing before the next tournament my list may change again, but if it does't then Firespray will be back in the game!

Well done dude, and nice write up!

yeah,
Cheers dude, I've updated your list, I was close! ish...

Hopefully we can get a rematch at some point?

I know Christopher from the tournament is holding regular games nights at his flat (Tower bridge)
and that another attendee Liam mentioned getting the game played/supported at DarkSphere.
with the possibility of a Dark Sphere tournaments.

Panic...

Haha no worries dude!

Definitely up for a rematch at some point! Yes, he's posted on the Dark Sphere group saying so, but as for Dark Sphere they're starting regular X-Wing on Thursday nights as of next week! So far from just that thread there are 3 of us going (including Janus from Fly Casual) so if you're up for it I'll see you there! I'm going to try and make as many Thursdays as possible to get some practice and squad testing in!

I do hope that Dark Sphere start doing X-Wing tournaments, they already hold semi-regular Attack Wing ones.
