Subject: That's no moon..! - A X-Wing Miniature Game Board Update: Done and in Game Pics
I've had been a occasional lurker without an account until I found panic's really great Deathstar Project. I instantly kewn that I have to build my own and thought, beeing the muse of this project, that I'll post some Pics here too. Luckily I could win Tom from Fat Dragon Games to provide Tiles form his upcoming Space Station Set for this project to betatest the Tiles.
I based my plannings on DagobahDave Graffam Trenchrun Mission he postet on Boardgamegeek. The other Boards i've had seen so far just had 2D trenches, but I really, really wanted a deep/3D one, so:
The (Prototype) first of three Boards:

Overview
Alllmost there!
Important: The Hangar on one of the Tiles is not part of the FDG Tile, it is a selfmade Token that lays on top of the Tile. (I'm gonna use them as TIE Spawnpoints)
The Board consists of three parts atm. and I'm currently palying with severals ideas how to connect them, because I want them to be able to disconnect so I can use just the flat board parts and to storage them flat. The first Idea I'm gonna try is to build some velcro connectors, so stay tuned for more!
C&C is welcome

yeah,
Welcome to dakka, and what a great entrance! your board looks like it's gonna be top notch.
How did you decide the width and height of the trench?

The Width is suggested as 20cm in the trenchrun mission and they playtested it, so I assume it's a usable width.
Height was easy: Enough to conceal a fighter in the trench and then a bit more. ( = 15cm )
I've bought some clear plastic plates that are long enough to span over the whole trench for Fighters that end their movement above the trench.
Automatically Appended Next Post: mini update: I completed the second '40' board and startet the thrid and ran out of printed tiles.
"No Problem" I thought, printed some new on my printer @home and learned: My Laserprinter @work is not just way faster, he is way better (sharper/contrast/color) than my own printer. So.. I can't mix these tiles. Maybe I'm gonna use them for stuff under the boards which will hold them up or something like that. Sadly: no more glueing tiles until monday *sh*t*
ToDo List so far:
3 40x50 Boards -> 2 done 1 todo
3 60x50 Boards -> 1 done 2 todo
6 15x50 Boards -> 2 done 4 todo (Trench Walls)
3 20x50 Boards -> 1 done 2 todo (Trench Floor)

I started to think about storage and how to hold up and connect the greater Tiles to the Trench.
Solution:
Two "halfboxes" that hold up the tiles besides the trench and that combine to a whole box which will contain the other stuff (turbolasers, X-Wing game, etc). I build to upper half to test my idea and I think it'll work as planned, the crossbeam is fixed with velcro and can be taken out when we're goint to "storage mode"
"Game Mode"
"Storage Mode"
I used the bad tiles from my printer @home to put them on the box
