Yeah,
Decided to start a separate thread from my blog to track the games I play at Dark Sphere.

Dark Sphere is a Great Game Store in South London, UK.
Dark Spheres FaceBook
They have causal Play night supporting X-wing and other games on Thursdays
If your in the area I highly recommend coming along.

Anyway some photos from the first Months games!

Week One!

Game One vs Andrew.
I tried a Y control list. (I had just bought 2 more Y-wings)
Dutch with Ion cannon and R2.
Gold Squadron with Ion cannon and R2.
Gold Squadron with Ion cannon and R2.
Gold Squadron with Ion cannon.

Unfortunately I played against 4 interceptors... It did not go well! I lost the game without any kills.

We played on a gale force 9 space mat.

Game Two vs Jonny
Wedge, Dutch with Ion cannon, x-wing, b-wing.
Vs
Howl, black, black, black, bounty gunner.

I set Wedge away from the main group.
The tie fighters chased after him while the bounty hunter went straight through the middle.

Dutch split to support wedge. While the B-wing and rookie took on the bounty hunter.

The rookie and Bwing followed the fire spray taking hits and loosing shields, but offensively
I couldn't have rolled better dice the bounty hunter went down in two turns.

Wedge died next, and then the B-wing, but I was able to avenge his death! (With only 1 hull on the rookie and two on Dutch!)

I Win!

Week Two!

First game Vs Andrew Pattison.
I flew Wedge, Dutch with Ion, Blue Squadron B-wing and a x-wing rookie..
His squadron was - Lando, Dutch, Rookie?
I set up first and pretty badly! I spread my guys out. Andrew flew all his guys down one flank and blasted away at my rookie.
By the time Wedge and Dutch joined the game my rookie was already dead.

My B-wing and then Wedge were ioned away from the Fight!
My B-wing tried to red manoeuvre while Stressed and Andrew pointed him away from the fight!
My ships were being systematically taken apart! and there was little I could do as Andrew followed me.
I was Destroyed and didn't do much damage at all :(
This was the second time I'd played Andrew and my Second Defeat at his hands!

Game two was against Mark.
I flew the same squadron - Wedge, Dutch with Ion, Blue Squadron B-wing and a x-wing rookie.
His squadron was Darth Vader, Turr Phennir and Soontir Fel - They had loads of upgrades.

My guys stuck together this time!
Darth got stuck on asteroids and kept flying into stuff loosing his actions.
Imperials rolled terrible dice.
With my guys acting as a team I managed to cover a large area of the board with my fire arcs, so there was little space for the Squints to dodge to.
My first kill was Soontir.

Next I blocked Darths movement with my rookie, forcing him to lose his actions while I kept hitting him with the B-wing at range 1.

After I killed Darth, Turr Phennir had nowhere to hide and didn't last long.

Discussing afterwards we agreed that Marks deployment was wrong and thet he shouldn't have come through the asteroids to meet me.

It seems both games were decided by deployment.

1 Win - 1 Loss.

Great games

Week Three!

Vs John R Gray
Good Rebels Vs Evil Rebels - 60mins time limit.

John has
Evil-Wedge, B-wing with an ion cannon, B-wing with advanced sensors and a rebel operative hwk with ion turret.

I've got almost the same list as last week.
Good-Wedge with r2d2, b-wing, rookie and Dutch.

We both fly into the asteroids.
I take out his ion cannon b-wing.
Next turn he kills Good-Wedge.

We both strip shields from each other's ships.
Time gets called and in the last turn Evil-Wedge takes out my B-wing.

John Wins on points.

Sad times :(

Week Four

I played Mark?
He had a Empire Bomber squadron!
• Colonel Jendon, fire control system, gunner and engine upgrade.
• scitimar Bomber Loaded with concussion misslle.
• scitimar Bomber Loaded with concussion misslle.
• scitimar Bomber Loaded with concussion misslle.

I had Rebels!
• Wedge - R2 astromech - advanced torpedos
• Garvin - proton torpedo
• Dutch - advanced torpedos and ion canon.

In the opening exchange.
Wedge at range three removes 1 hull point on a bomber.
Garven fires his torpedo at the same ship and removes three more.
Dutch Ions the same ship leaving it with 1 hull remaining.

The Empire fires back taking Wedges and 2 of Dutches shields.

The ships close in! But not close enough for me to fire my advanced torps
Garven pops the injured bomber.
Wedge and Dutch concentrate on the next bomber and bring him down to 1 hull.

Colonel Jendon - " on my command unleash hell! "
His Lambda Shuttle blasts Dutch with it's cannons scoring a crit.
The remaining two bombers both unload their missiles!
Wedge and Dutch both explode in a explosion of exploding concussion! (just check those dice)

In the next turn Garven K-turns and Destroys bomber number 2.
And Then starts to chase after the Imperial Shuttle, but it's engine upgrades kick in and it goes to the other side of the table!! that thing can move!

'They came from behind'
The bomber has circled around and starts to chase Garven!
the next three turns were like this.

pew pew - 1 x-wing hull point.
pew pew - 1 x-wing hull point.
pew pew - Dead X-Wing!

Good Game.
:(

Yeah,
Last night I played Janus
He was using triple bounty Hunters 99pts.

I used
Garven X-wing
Gold y-wing with ion turret
Blue b-wing with ion canon
Blue b-wing with ion canon
99pts.

A fairly straight forward game.
During set up I tried to keep the asteroid spread out.

I deployed as a group centrally.
Janus then spread out, to come in at angles.

I stuck to my plan of concentrating fire on the central firespray until it was dead.

The bounty hunters took revenge killing the gold y-wing.

From there I pecked the fire sprays to death. Using secondary ion canons to deny Janus the extra defence die when I was firing the b-wings at range 3, and their primary weapons while shooting at range 1-2.

It seemed that my numerical advantage won the game once the first firespray died. The firesprays removed most of the rebels shields but both were destroyed before they could pop another ship.

Victory Rebels!

Hi everyone.

I'm a new Xwing player popping in for a game (next Thursday 13th). I play imperials and can field 100 or 60 points.

Would anyone fancy a game? I've watched a tonne of videos and am an experienced gamer (mtg, hs, 40k) so won't be slow.

Thanks everyone

Cool battle reports, I love all the pictures!

One question as I'm a bit new to the game, what's the strategy going on with all the ships starting out super clustered? Some even base to base? Most have my games have been with deployments along opposing board edges, where it seems advantageous to spread out or risk collisions and limited maneuverability.

A lot of special characters give benefits to other models that are in range 1 so that might be the start of it. There is also the concept of the flight sticking close together to support the others giving overlapping fire to maximize taking out the opponent. if your close together and they run their ships at you then you can start to whittle down their ships one by one.

the old adage of safety in numbers

of course if your opponent has cluster missile(I think that's the one) or a mine.......well then your group can always peel off.

yeah,
Yup its exactly that by keeping ships together it's easier to get a single enemy ship within everyones fire arc.
If I have 4 rebels and they all can target a single enemy ship there is a good chance it's not going to be there next turn.
If you fly all you ships with a 10mm gap and stagger them you can fly in formation quite well.

Tonight I played Andrew at Dark Sphere.
Andrew fly empire.
Turr with ptl and stealth.
Soontir with ptl.
Darth concussion and engine upgrade.

I flew rebels.
Blue squadron with ion canon.
Blue squadron with ion canon.
Blue squadron with ion canon.
Blue squadron with ion canon.

In the first exchange I ioned Soontir.
And then knowing where he was going I lined up his destruction.

It was then a case of rinse and repeat.
ion to distrupt movement and then concentrate fire to destroy the ship.

I'm loving the ion canon as a secondary weapon.
Again what I was saying earlier, Normally against ties at range 3 with my primary guns it's 3 attack dice vs 4 defence dice, I'd only expect 1 damage to get through if I'm lucky.
With Ion canons being secondary weapons I'm more likely to get that damage because the enemy doesn't get the extra defence die.., and he gets a ion token!

The 4 blues were fairly easy to fly.
I knew where I going because I moved first Moving first.
Shooting last isn't that bad when you can take 8 hits.

yeah,
My thursday night game!

I flew 4 blue ion wings again.
*B-Wing Blue squadron pilot with ion cannon.
*B-Wing Blue squadron pilot with ion cannon.
*B-Wing Blue squadron pilot with ion cannon.
*B-Wing Blue squadron pilot with ion cannon.

My opponent Pete Wood was empire and flew
Tie Bomber scimitar squadron pilot with assault & clusters missiles
Tie Bomber scimitar squadron pilot with cluster missiles
Tie Bomber Captain Jonus with concussions missiles
Lambda Class Shuttle ST321 Colonel Jendon.

We flew around the asteroids which allowed Pete time to target all B-wings.
The opening exchange removed 7 shields from the front two b-wings and heavily damaged the front bomber.
The empire got first blood, the rebels then took out the injured bomber

After that we danced amongst the stars and nipped at each other. But I was taking more hits.
I think I flew pretty well but in the end the dice and game sided with Pete's empire squadron.

Great game.
