Hey Folks!

Welcome to another Morehammer Battle report!

This is an experimental list based around Zombies, Spawns and Typhus.

My List (Morehammer)

Typhus with Gift of Contagion and Weapon curse

3x35 zombies

2x5 Nurgle Marked Spawns

1x7 Nurgle Marked Possessed

Ty's List

Tau Crisis suit Commander ("Give everyone reroll run within 12'" warlord trait)

1x2 Crisis suits

1x3 Stealth Suits

1x5 Pathfinders in Devilfish

3x12 Fire warriors

Hammer Head

1x2 Broadsides

And everyone maxed out with drones

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Points: 1500

Mission: Relic

Set up: Dawn of War

Chaos Deployment

Central unit with Typhus, flanked by 10 Spawn

Tau Deployment

I win the first turn and take the first move.......................

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Round 1
...................................

Chaos Turn

I push everything forward. I deployed my spawn in the middle, and would have taken the game in the first turn (2+ on d6 maybe ). With a 12 inch move and fleet, I come within 8 inches of the fire warriors. Both Spawn units thin go on to fail their charges even with re-rolls. I needed 8 inches for the two respective spawn units. Bad luck right off the bat. By failing to charge, the game swung back into the tau 's hands.

Tau Turn

And so the shooting began. Out of 10 Toughness 6 Spawn, two remain. His lines of fire and target priority cutting down spawn after spawn.

Round 2
...................................

Chaos Turn

The remaining two spawn tie up the pesky Stealth Suits. 105 Zombies move up to the middle of the board with Typhus Cursing and Gifting up the middle. The First of the Zombies begin to reach the relic.

Tau Turn

The Piles of zombie corpses begin to pile up as the central unit gets decimated. Fire warrior teams mow down wave after wave of zombies, feel no pain and all.

Round 3
....................................

Chaos Turn

My Possessed counter-punch a crisis suit team and put pressure on the Tau flank, opposite the remnants of a Spawn unit on the other flank.

Tau Turn

With uncharacteristic flair, A Single stealth Suit Holds two and then final spawn for 4 rounds of combat before being wiped out. Meanwhile, the Zombies keep dropping.

Round 4
.....................................

Chaos Turn

In the biggest mistake of the game (for me) I separated Typhus from the decimated central zombie unit to tie up the fire warriors in the center of the board. He wins the challenge and gets nothing for it (Eternal warrior!). The Fire Warriors flee and he is left standing in front of two broadsides and a HammerHead.......

Tau Turn

Note the distinct lack of Typhus in this Picture. Chaos in now reduced to two "healthy" units of zombies in position for a final bum-rush on either flank.

Round 5
.....................................

Chaos Turn

The final battle begins as Zombies munch the Fire Warriors in the middle of the table.

Tau Turn

However, where it counted, the Zombies near the relic flounder when the Tau HQ joins the fight.

Round 6
......................................

Chaos Turn

My remaining 30+ Zombies surround the Relic as I regret taking the first turn at the start of the game. Without any shooting, The Tau Hammer Head and Devilfish are free to chase me off the objective.

Tau Turn

And so they do. Both vehicle move to push me off the objective while targeting zombies with point blank sub-munitions. The game ends with Tau as the victors, two to Zero. By Wiping out a Unit of Spawn and taking out Typhus, they take the game on Secondary objective points.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

That was a blast and very informative!

Ty is a great Opponent and his army borders on pop art. Plague Zombies are always going to play an important part in competitive Chaos lists, but are so dang slow, and will struggle to get where you need them to be. The Spawn however are my new favorites. I should have kept them in cover before pouncing instead of going up the middle. The Spawns ability to blow through terrain (beasts unit type) with no impediment is gonna win games, especially with a toughness of 6.

Any-who, more later!

Sol, Thanks for the awesome game!

That was some serious work, trying to shoot through 100+ zombies with feel no pain. I still can't believe I pulled that off.
And you don't know how unbelievably concerned I now am about the spawn in future games.
Not to mention all the NEW horrific Chaos toys you have....

awesome game! I love the pics =)

And yes, spawn waves with other baddies such as skarbrand backing them up will be pretty nasty.

A quick note - unless the new chaos spawn have some special rule allowing them to assault after a run move then they cannot. That first turn move that might have "won you the game" would've been a 12" charge at best. Plus did the tau player overwatch you? Overwatch would probably have aided in stripping down those spawn faster.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

There's also that whole 'plague zombies can't be taken in squads of more than 10' thing. Obviously it's ok if your group allows it, but it's something to keep in mind for tournaments and the like.

Otherwise, it definitely looks like your chances of winning would have been significantly higher if you had gotten that first charge (assuming it was legal). Actually, I just remembered a rule: you can never assault on the first turn. So that's another reason you would've wanted to go second, because then if you were in range you would be allowed to charge.

Your list definitely helps clear a few things up for me regarding spawn and cultists, so I thank you for that.

Infiltrators and scouts cannot assault on the first game turn. The issue here was the charge range, and a smart tau player never presses the deployment line, so a first turn charge by any unit typically never happens in 6th.

Nothing prevents a 1st turn charge for non scouting, non infiltrating units that did not run.

Should always have 24" distance if both sides deploy up to line, and if you move 1st @ 12" should have a 12" assault distance....

Unless you go 2nd, and your opponent moves forward making your assault distance that much less.

I'm not familiar with chaos spawn but stormboys can move 12+1D6 so in theory could move 18" first turn and have a 6" charge distance... (maybe spawn move 12+1d6? I got noooo clue!)

Great bat rep, models look great, the gundam themed broadside or w/e is very cool. cultists looks quite zombie-like too.

Did the tank shocks make you move more than 6" with the Relic? If not you should have kept control of it with the model that had it.

Awesome report, that's a lot of double dead zombies!

Great feedback everyone!

And I forgot about not charging after running! Yeah, so the spawn would have not got the first charge either way as my opponent knows better than to set up close to the line

And no, I did not claim the relic, was only an inch away and you cant grab it on a run move:(

That 1 inch would have won me the game as the best the tanks could do was try to wipe out that specific model. It would have come down to a very lucky point-blank Sub-munitions shot

Thanks again for the feedback folks!

Nice zombie conversions. Props to Ty for the win. I think his army was the underdog in this battle.

Your army doesn't look like it's 1500. It looks like less than that.

Yea I thought the same thing. Aside from cultists nurgle units and spawn must be very expensive.

No, they're fairly inexpensive. 180pts for 5 mark of nurgle spawns.

Wow so roughly 750 points for 105 cult zombies and the 10 spawn, where the hell are the other 750 points in that list coming from?

Very nice battle report and great looking armies! This is the odd battle where I think that Kroot in the Tau army would actually be worthwhile as a counter assault unit. They would chew through cultists in CC like a hot knife through butter and provide a bit of protection against the spawns. Meanwhile still packing rapid fire weapons at S4.

HOLY SMOKES!

Sorry folks! Just noticed that when building my list, I added typhus TWICE

I would have had another 1/6th the points to spend on something shooty!

Sorry about that! Been too dependent on army builder

These armies are diametrically opposed. One new codex, one old. One numerous swarming force, one stand + shoot. One ugly, morbid theme and one happy and bright.
Looks like a zombie only army isn't very tough. Maybe should have added some serious shooting power?

Great battle report. Sounds like you two would be a fun group to game against. But to be honest, at least for the first time I ever had to play agaisnt it, there it no way I could help fall down laughing at those amazingly converted fire warriors. And thats coming from a Fellow Shas'o. Priceless.

Such a cool wave of zombies vs the fire line of tau, epic epic scenes.

B more careful with the spawns like every1 is saying and skarbrand/tallyman could b key, more zombies or an oblit or 2...

Id prefer more spwans or plague marines over possessed...
