After painting my drop guard C:IG army (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/326362.page) plus extras I'm a bit burned out on painting brown stuff so for a break it's time to add to my Ravens.



This time it's going to be a 2000pt bike army using C:SM. Like with the drop guard I'll keep updating the original post as models get assembled and then painted (as well as putting up new posts) to make it easy to see where we're at.

This is the resin for the first fire raptor scrubbed up and ready for assembly.

That's both Fire Raptors built - waiting on a load of bikes from Dark Sphere...

How was the Fire Raptor to build? I'd heard the Storm Eagle was a nightmare to put together for some people, thought this might be the same. Your pictures look like they went together easily enough.

Usual with FW - hit or miss.

One was beautifully cast, one was mediocre. There are also a few bits the alignment of which are not intuitive.

Unfortunately, the one I built first was the good one. The second one went together better (after the learning experience of the first one) but was not as well cast.

Each took <4 hours to build including all of the prep and magnetizing the turrets.

Bikes are finally here!

Nice! I like what you did with putting the special weapons in the bolter's spot. I spent an hour or so today cutting up hands/weapons so they can hold grav guns

Cheers, I considered having them hold the special weapons but it just doesn't seem very practical (steering and aiming have got to suffer!)

Thanks! It's the regular techmarine with harness model (the one that doesn't come with servitors) chopped up. I left off the lower two arms (just seems like it'll make you too top heavy on a bike) and mounted the tools/weapons on the bike instead.

No plans. I like that everything (except the raptors) is scoring. Plus, bike armies always suffer from a lack of scoring models.

Thanks. I haven't 100% decided yet but I'll probably paint the riders separately.

The raptors cost more than the bikers.... Bikes are okay value since the re-pack (GW prices going down? Un-possible!) I always prefer to buy armies in a single lump, it lets me get stuck in.

You've got some nice models going, looking forward to seeing some paint on them!

Thanks. Weather forecast says it might hit 4C tomorrow so I'm planning on getting them primed before it gets seriously cold!

Now to reward myself with a bit of Xcom (enemy within) and then it'll be time to drill all of the barrels and exhausts.

That's all of the gun barrels and exhausts drilled (very boring!). Weather permitting everything'll get primed tomorrow.
