A bit backwards, but here is the build thread for the final fleet posted in the Painting & Modeling Showcase forum:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/574762.page

The beginnings, some ships off of ebay with Nurglization added...

Still need to add lots of rust and detail the guns on all the ships.

Terminus Est with additional Nurglization:

Cruisers

Fleet so far

Future additions...

And some glowy bits! First real attempt at OSL...

A couple underside shots of the cruisers showing drippy parts and more detail:

And then on to the alternate Nurgly weapons builds. First off is a pic of the basic builds: IN and Chaos WBs, Chaos LBs and IN lance decks.

The some Nurgly putty added. Still a ways to go. IN WBs, bottoms of IN lance decks and Chaos and IN launch bays. Not real happy with the launch bays...

what are those small blobs, balls made of? Greenstuff or some creative art shop accessories?

They come from the filter element of a Britta water filter. The filter media are the little green balls and charcoal pieces mixed together.
To separate them I put some of the mixture into an edged baking sheet, lifted one end and started tapping the sheet. The balls are round and roll down the inclined sheet, while the charcoal pieces more or less stay put. Its a slow process but does result in a large number of balls in random sizes for the ships

Fluff for the balls on the ships is that they are plague spore carriers, dormant while at absolute zero in space. When the ships approach a planet, they dip into the upper atmosphere, warming the armored spores, which then release for re-entry into the lower atmosphere. When the spores cross a pressure gradient (say 3/4 of one atmosphere) they burst to release the plague spores which then spread on the winds.

Update with wave 2 with escorts, cruisers and heavies. And lots and lots more green balls...

Escorts

Six new cruisers

Basic paint done, just lots of detail to go...

And the whole fleet:

And the big boys magnetized (except for Repulsive). Am really beginning to appreciate the Vengeance class Grand Cruisers, which is good because I bought five of them...

Here is a little tutorial on the puttied texture.

The putty is Magic Sculpt.
Step 1: Lay out some small balls and snakes of putty in random sizes and at random locations:

Step 2: Press the putty into the piece with a medium to large ball tool to keep it stuck to the piece. A bit of water on the tool helps keep the putty from sticking to the tool:

Step 3: Use a small ball tool to deepen and enlarge the depressions into Nurgly pits in random patterns:

Step 4: Make a few more... for modular BFG weapons using magnets. Still need to add some of the green balls.

Made up a few Nurglized (and magnetized) Imperial weapons modules for the Vengeance class grand cruisers and any regular Imperial cruisers or battleships that get converted to serve Nurgle.

Sometimes I forget how awesome BFG looks. Thanks for reminding me. Love the fleet. The OSL on the engines rocks.

Infected Marine strike cruisers. One will match the fleet colors while the other will be a recently captured Blood Angel cruiser.

Strike cruisers, fighters and bombers ....

And last but not least torpedoes and Death Claws (all from Shapeways).
Will be taking a break from this fleet now that it is playable to work on some other non BFG projects.

Torpedoes

5 of 48 death claws who are all waiting for bases...

Back to work on the Nurgle fleet!

Ravenstar BSG civilian ships in the process of being Nurglized:

Basic paint/wash on Nurglized Ravenstar civilian ships, two new Desolators and a bunch of magnetized Nurgle weapons modules:

A little more color...

The two blue ships in the center have had their "original" blue paint restored to areas not affected by the Nurgle plague. All of the civilian ships will be done like this in different colors and I will probably try it on some of the DG ships with their original gray/white with green trim.

Also remember that you can see huge versions of these photos buy clicking on them and then enlarging them in Photobucket

Two Desolators pretty much done (still need to do windows). Tried to work original DG colors in there (green prow with gray trim, unpainted everywhere else), but got carried away with the goopy so it does not show much. Will limit the goop a lot more on the next ships so more of the original colors can come through. Used the DG symbol for the first time, but am very not sure about the glowy eyes...

Not a lot of info on DG fleet colors out there. Have only found one pic (Endurance) with anything else but overall gray.

Weapons are modular and magnetic so both hulls can swap between Desolator, Relictor and Desecrator.
Given the very limited number of Despoilers built (3), I could also use these hulls as more fluffy "counts as" Despoilers.

Norn Iron

That's a heck of a fleet, both in the details and the sheer size of it! The water filter balls, the texture, the OSL, the ex-BA cruiser, all excellent!

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Been a while but I did start on a DG battlebarge as a precursor to a pure (LOL!) DG Space Marine BFG fleet. Decided to paint it in basic DG colors before adding any Nurgle goop. Also interesting to see what a pre-Heresy 30K DG fleet might look like.

Got some captured Ork ram ships and a heavy transport done (may go back in a do a little more detail on the heavy).

After washes over the base coat. Used Army Painter Plague Shader (green), Red Tone and Purple Tone washes and am very happy with the color gradations between the mixed colors. These pics try to capture this.

And finals. Flash brightened up the off white a bit too much.
