Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted on these forums. Years ago I started a thread to document my Inq28 projects, but I stopped updating due to getting too busy with work to be active in the hobby. After a lot of procrastinating and making excuses, my buddy KrautScientist named me Hobbyist of the Year on his blog, and I decided I couldn't disappoint him. So, I started a blog, and am posting a project thread here to document my hobby work. This time, I have the space, finances, and (usually) time to make it happen, and I have no intention of lengthy periods of radio silence.

My primary focuses are Inq28 and 40k World Eaters. Since my old thread shows my finished work within the Inq28 realm, I'll let that stand for now. Since going silent on these forums, I've been active over at ThroneOfSkulls, beginning to form a World Eaters warband I've named the Jaws of War. I have three contest pieces to show, none of which are 100% where I want them, but good enough to post. I'll be doing more work to them in the coming weeks, mostly minor touch-ups and in one case a re-basing.

First, Xolon the Onslaught, Daemon Prince.

Drephon (I'm particularly proud of this conversion, even if the pictures do stink)

Karrod

None of them are perfect, but they're all damn close to being exactly where I want them to be. You'll find more pictures of each model in my gallery, in the Jaws of War section. I also started a WordPress blog, check it out:

I am always looking for criticism and critiques, the more insightful and nit-picky, the better. KrautScientist has been my patron saint these last few years, steering me in the right direction and constantly giving me the good advice and encouragement that I needed to get back in the game. So, I hope everyone takes some time to tell me what they think, and checks back as I post somewhat-regular updates here.

I really like that bike.

And the daemon prince is quite sufficiently disturbing. Not sure why, exactly, but that face is just creepy.

Good job.

Subscribed Seriously, buddy: What can I say that I haven't already said? I remain a huge fan of your work, and those World Eaters competition pieces are some of my favourite WE models in existence -- and let me just add for the benefit of those of you who don't frequent ToS that I have lost more than one contest over there because of Dexter's amazing models.

Anyway, good to see you posting this stuff -- looking forward to seeing more! And for all the readers on this thread, just wait til' Dexter gets around to posting some of his recent INQ28 conversions -- that stuff is brilliant!

"With blood and iron, we built Velsen, and will not shy to reclaim it thusly."
- Karis Lamtron, Rogue Trader

The history of House Lamtron stretches back to the days of the Great Crusade, when the original Lord Lamtron was issued a Warrant of Trade in recognition of his contributions to the Emperor's growing Imperium. It was he, with his mercenary army at his back, that established the governments, trade routes, and culture of the then-scattered Velsen Sector, and turned it into a thriving and prosperous region of loyal Imperial space.

In the centuries and millennia after his death, subsequent generations of his bloodline maintained a preeminent position of political and economic power in the Sector. They held major influence over the distribution of food from the agri-worlds to the hives, and almost exclusive control over the movement of arms and armor from forge worlds to Imperial garrisons. For millennia, House Lamtron kept the lifeblood of Velsen moving, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility to the Imperium throughout the generations.

It was in the early years of M41 when things began to fall apart. Darian Lamtron, the current Lord Regent of House Lamtron, fell into a cycle of addiction and hedonism, and surrounded himself with the unscrupulous characters that dealt in his new obsessions. Slowly, the vast resources of House Lamtron were turned to the trafficking of narcotics and prostitutes. When Darian died at the age 315, his body falling apart from centuries of abuse, his heirs did little better, only mimicking the behavior they had been brought up to believe was appropriate for their station. For generations, Rogue Traders of House Lamtron squandered their lives and responsibilities on sensual pleasures, while other trade groups stepped in to fill the ever-increasing gap in legitimate trade.

The breaking point happened in 922.M41, when the sitting Lord Regent Theros Lamtron married Ariadne, a woman with deep conviction in the Imperial Cult. Her faith had a profound impact on Theros, who severed all ties with the nefarious figures that had prowled the halls of the Lamtron flagship for centuries, and cut off all illicit trading.

While his intentions were noble, they were without nuance or consideration for what would come next. The criminals he had expelled from the comfort and shelter of House Lamtron were incensed, and plotted retaliation.

Model WIP pics, and the next installment of the House Lamtron history, will go up on Thursday.

Soon after, Ariadne gave birth to a daughter, Karis. Her birth was met with excited celebration, both for the birth of an heir to the Warrant, but also due to relief, as Ariadne had long feared herself to be infertile.

All the while, House Lamtron struggled to regain their foothold and status in the wake of the debilitating damage done by generations of hedonism. As some old contracts were renewed, others were cut off forever in favor of newer, more consistent economic brokers. And all the while, those that Theros had removed from his company plotted their revenge in the shadows.

It was at a dinner celebrating Karis' first birthday that they struck. Paid assassins, taking the guise of retainers for some of the few remaining House allies, lashed out at the Lord and Lady Lamtron with toxic weapons. Theros and Ariadne died next to each other, still seated, as their circulatory systems shut down from toxic shock. The assassins were unable to kill Karis before the House's military body, the Skydd, cut the attackers down.

Over the next month, three more assassination attempts on Karis' life failed, as the seneschals and void masters debated over the best way to keep her safe. A Kroot bodyguard named Ortok was purchased from a trading post in the Veil of Impurity, and tasked with protecting the life of Karis until his own death. However, the security of the flagship Leverantor had been compromised in the centuries of neglect, and it was not a safe place to keep her. Deciding to remove her from harm's way entirely, it was arranged for her to live quietly, under an assumed name, on a world far out in the Domitian Subsector. All records of her location were erased, known only to a precious few high-ranking members House Lamtron officers, whose loyalty was beyond question. Karis left the Leverantor, Ortok by her side, a girl only two years old.

It would be sixty years until her return, and in that time, vultures would move in to pick the fragile, weakened House Lamtron clean.

Finally I have some new models to show for my "new" project, House Lamtron. In truth, I've been working on the ideas behind this project for years now, but haven't been diligent in building the models. So, here we go. I plan on unveiling WIP pics of models to correspond with the preamble of fiction I'm laying out.

First, Taskmaster Stian, Void Master of Ship Combat and Acting Helmsman in the absence of Karis.

Next, Lady Alastrine, Grand Mistress of Seneschals

I went through a lot of changes with this conversion, but think I settled on something I like for her. Games Workshop produces precious few female heads, and fewer still that aren't sculpted with screaming mouths. I wanted Alastrine to have an air of haughty arrogance about her, and Elspeth's head was exactly what I needed.

Finally, several members of the Skydd, the Household military force.

The Skydd are a self-contained ethnic group that have been living on House Lamtron vessels for thousands of years, and consider leaving one of the Rogue Trader ships to be dereliction of duty. The Leverantor boasts a standing force of over 2,500 Skydd.

On Tuesday I'll have the final part of the preamble, and more models to show. For now, thanks for reading, and leave me any feedback you may have.

Great House Lamtron, pt.3

In the six decades of her absence, the staff of House Lamtron had struggled to maintain the legitimacy of the House. Greedy parties intent on moving in on the last remnants of the trading dynasty claimed that without a Rogue Trader, House Lamtron had no claim to their Warrant of Trade, and all they once claimed as their own was now on the market. The Leverantor especially was seen as the grand prize. The ancient Grand Cruiser dated back to the days of the Great Crusade, and had been modified so many times that it was in a class of its own.

With trade contracts drying up, Velsen’s preeminent banking house offered to fund the upkeep of the Leverantor, intending for it to serve as an orbital monument in perpetual dry dock over Bastold, Velsen’s capital world. Without a Rogue Trader present, the House Lamtron staff lacked the political power necessary to keep the banking house from earning the ear and greasing the palm of Lord-Governor Vlachen. As banking house agents began to station themselves aboard the Leverantor, intent on unlocking its secrets, Arch-Magos Salakov, leader of the Mechanicum elements sworn to the service of House Lamtron, began locking down many regions and systems of the ship.

So it was, when Karis returned, that her ship was in a self-induced coma to protect itself from those that would see it stolen and dissected.

None recognized her.

She should have been in her mid-sixties. She looked like she was early in her twenties. And yet, her resemblance to Lord Lamtron was uncanny. Not Theros, her father, but the original Lord Lamtron, the barbarian trade-king who was regarded as one of the greatest heroes of the Sector. The banking house agents that met her at the docking gates refused her access at first, but Salakov instantly recognized her for who she was.

With her were three others. The first was Ortok, the Kroot bodyguard, now more grizzled and scarred, and swollen to monstrous proportions. The other were two human men, one a big thug-type with a nest of cables hiding his lower face and neck, the other a more slender man with a bionic eye. Each carried himself with the measure of men accustomed to killing, while Karis walked light and carefree.

As she strode through the vast receiving hall of the docking port, agents of the banking house swarmed her, asking questions, demanding DNA tests to verify her identity, and doing all in their power short of overt force to keep her from moving any further into the interior of the Leverantor. Her response to them was simple:

“I will be alone with my House now.”
Karis

This will have to do for now

Karis is going to be a difficult model to pull off. This is a character I thought up five or six years ago, and she has gone through plenty of changes and refinements since then (I hope for the better). My standards for her are high and specific. I am choosing to initially represent her as she would have looked shortly after her return to the Leverantor. Perhaps down the line, I will do another version of her in an extremely gaudy, flashy, make-a-rogue-trader-proud getup. But for now, I’m keeping to a more toned-down take on her. Future posts in the coming weeks will feature me beginning to put her together. Currently she exists as a pile of bits I’m having trouble picking and choosing from.

For now, I have another model to share with you. Oris Sandokan. Thug #1 she returned from who-knows-where with. A big, harsh, profanity-spewing goon with a full loadout of stolen gear and a beard of cables and augmentics. My Space Pirate Bruiser.

He needs a little bit of work, especially on his forearms. I may want to re-think the way he is holding his shotgun. Any ideas? The next model I’ll feature will either be Ortok, or Thug #2, William Only. Maybe both, if I can make it happen.

I know it’s been forever (all three of you that follow me), and I’m not gonna offer excuses. My resolution for the new year is a blog post every Monday, so watch this space. The final installment of the preamble will be up next week, as well as models.
