Subject: Becoming a TFG - Building a Thunderstar step by step [29/4-Update]
Yes I am doing this. Hello everyone! I'm Matthew, and I play Space Wolves. As everyone knows and as you can hear in the name (Space Wolves), the main focus of the Vlka Fenryka are the Wolves. I have always loved the wolf part of the Space Wolves, especially the awesome Thunderwolf Cavalry, Space Marines literally riding huge feral beasts into battle. I knew that this is what I wanted to do if I ever got a new army, and that is exactly what I did late summer of 2015. I started out simple, just some Grey Hunters, until I got some Thunderwolves for my birthday and I tried them out in game.
And boy were they awesome. I instantly fell in love with them and decided that I'm not only going to make a TWC-centered list, I'm making a Thunderstar! (don't worry, I won't actually play it all the time, I still want friends)
So, what do I have right now?
2 units of 10 Grey Hunters,
5 Long Fangs with ML's,
A Contemptor Dread,
10 Fenrisian Wolves,
A Land Speeder,
And Imperial Knight,
and last but not least, the beauties,
4 Thunderwolves,
1 Iron Priest on Thunderwolf
and 1 Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf.
That's not all though. I've converted a Sanguinary Priest on a Bike, and I'm planning on getting 5 Sniper Scouts and 3 Biker Librarians. This is going to be fun!
Just so everyone knows, I personally recommend you to skip all the spoilered posts. They're pretty bad.
Latest army pic (April)
Spoiler:
Hey guys, Matthew here! I've had a P&M blog for a while now, but I feel like it's gone stale, both with updates and my painting. So, here we go, clean slate, new plog. What will we have here?
-Space Wolves. Duh.
-Contest entries, for the Dakka Painting challenge.
-My Imperial knight, being built,
Most of my pictures will be taken from my entries in the Warhammer Facebook group, because I hate uploading to Imgur or the Dakka gallery. All pics will have the text underneath them.
Army as of January 2016
[spoiler]First pictures:
I ordered a BaC Contemptor (not the box, sorry!) from Bitz and Kits. I wanted him to be a part of my Space Wolves, so... I spent the entire day building him (I'm ill), and then magnetising the torso to the legs, which allows me to rotate the torso freely. Then I added some Space Wolf symbols, some etched brass, and finally some greenstuffed fur.
Here's the magnetisation. I used those ball magnets that you buy to play with, which I greenstuffed into the Dread.
Power Fist arm. A happy little claw!
The base. I used plasticard, cork, sand (from Venice!) rocks (from the Alps!) ballast (from GW!) and some more etched brass, plus some Chaos bitz.
Here's the li'l knight. I love him. I guess his name is Lupus Bellum (Wolf of War or War Wolf), but I'm not sure yet. I'm painting him in a black and beige scheme, with red and yellow details to honour his wolf brethren.
Now, here are a few pictures of my painted wolves:

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

Subject: Re:The Iron Wolves - a Space Wolf plog [PIC HEAVY!]
Yep, it will, I felt the old one was too much messing around. Also, I just made a lightbox, hopefully I'll prime the Contemptor and a Thunderwolf tomorrow so I can try it out.
Also, fluff.
The Iron Wolves are pretty much the survivors of a devastating battle on their homeplanet, which resulted in Exterminatus being called in and 7/10 Marines getting killed. The survivors fled to another planet, on which they were forced to live a primitive life for hundreds of years before being discovered by the Imperium. The planet was inhabited by giant wolves, who first attacked the Marines, but learned to treat them as equals. The Marines and Wolves created a bond, with each Marine adopting a Wolf Brother, which influenced the Chapters wolf imagery. And that's pretty much why I use the SW codex for them. They lived on that planet for 600 years, before the Imperium came and discovered them. The whole chapter had been declared heroically dead, which was why they were identified as a new chapter. The planet was given a chapter headquarters, before new recruits started coming in. The Iron Wolves lives.
Yeah, it looks hideous in the photographs... I've sponged it with Dawnstone and Leadbelcher. I'll hopefully try to find something better to take pictures with.
The dread actually looks quite nice Matthew. I like it

I just need to ask for advice: Should I paint the Lan Speeder in some sort of camo? I'm thinking abut stippling lines of darker and brighter greys all over it...
Space marines don't use cover or camouflage, what are you running, reasonable marines?
NO! These are honourable Space Wolves who display thir chapter's colours and heraldry proudly as they charge towards the enemy! so yeah, don't do camo.
Also, can you paint my spacewolves for me, I'm not going to be doing it any time soon, and not nearly as well.
Keep up the good work, your models look amazeballs.

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Sorry for the lack of updates! I just wanted to post a full army pic. The goal is to have painted all of this before buying anything. The list of painted things (including stuff I'm doing finishing touches on) is 6 Marines, half a Contemptor, 2 Thunderwolves, 3 Fenrisian Wolves, a Lone Wolf and 2 Long Fangs. There's a long way to go, since I have 15 Marines, 7 Fenrisian Wolves, a land Speeder, a Biker (what?) 6 characters and a Thunderwolf left to paint. Excluding my Knight. Sheesh.
Anyways, full army pic (excluding a few characters):
I'm almost done with my first squad of Grey Hunters! It's a ten man squad, but I've already finished 2 Marines, and I've got 2 more to prime and paint.
You know the Wulfen? They're a thing now. Since I'm a cheap Блять I don't want to buy the new models, so... conversions. Yay?
Spoiler:
Those were the first two. Pretty simple conversions, some Ork and Bloodletter bitz and a chaos claw.
A few more! A total of four right now, I can't seem to find the bitz for a fifth one :(
TH/SS, the perfect combination.
I really like this one, his pose feels really aggressive. I know his torso is literally ripped apart, but I'm planning on putting... something there. Fur? Blood? Massive amounts of CS: GO skins? Yeah, it's going to be fur.

As you might know I have a lot of unpainted things. I'm planning on buying the Get Started Space Wolves, and I really want to finish everything first. So I need to finish all my stuff before the 4th of April, which is when I'll have unlimited access to a FLGS and painting for hours every day.
The list of unpainted things:
13 Grey Hunters
1 Contemptor
4 Fenrisian Wolves
1 Land Speeder
5 Long Fangs
7 Characters
3 TWC
So about 1300 points, give or take. I have, upon posting this, 47 days to finish. 1300 divided by 47 is 27. 27 points a day, 189 a week! Let's do this!
