Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Time to pick what we'll be painting in the first challenge of 2017! This month, the options are:

Winter Is... Well, Here Now*: Your entry should be winter-themed, conveyed however you see fit (theme, basing, colour choices, background ect)

Black and White: Your entry should feature significant black or white areas (or both!). Both are very interesting colours to paint that can be approached in a ton of different ways, so model choice here is less important than how you paint it!

Rogues and Scoundrels: Not everyone can be a hero! This one is all about the less noble and heroic characters out there, from lovable antihero Han Solo types to the assassins and murderers you'd not want to turn your back on!

Uprising: Rebels, Freedom fighters, insurrectionists... This one's for the underdogs, from plucky resistance fighters to sneaky alien-worshipping cults! Happy now, Bottle?

*This was originally 'Winter Is Coming' carried over from November's poll, but that seemed a little late as it's bloody freezing this morning!

2 days to vote!

Uprising would be absolutely perfect for my next project. Make it happen!

Uprising would be great for a project I'll be starting soon. Hope that's the topic.

Haha, Para! Yes I am very happy...

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Really, I'd be happy with any of 'em, but when with rogues and scoundrels just for the variety of models i've got for that. I will say I kinda feel like you could drop uprising stuff in with it though without too much trouble.

hmmm...well none of those suit me at all right now...I'll have to have a good long think about what I have/want to work on that could fit any of those :/

I refuse to vote for the winter one though, on pure principal! - it's the middle of fething summer here and it's making me hate life!

...ehh...actually no, allright, I'll put a vote down for "Rogues and Scoundrels"...I've got some old metal kommandos that I really like, but haven't managed to paint yet, been putting them off for ages for some reason....failing that though, if uprising wins, I guess I can do up some cultists for my nurgle marines...

...it's good to be green!

Hmmm. Not thinking of anything on my bench for the last two. Not primed at least. I’m sure I could knock the dust off of something.

Winter is easy. I snow base everything.
Black and white just means I have to paint something black on a snow base. I have a few deathwatch. Or a Homogaunt.

Saying I am still painting my Black Templar, I picked Black and White.

But all the choices are good, and I could *probably* find something that would fit in there somewhere.

I voted for Black and White, because I want to get some of my Ravenwing stuff painted, but I could probably come up with something for any of them:
Winter is...: I have a few Space Wolves models that I could do, although I'm not sure I want to do snow bases for them (too cliche).
Black and White: As I said, I've got lots of Ravenwing stuff that really needs paint.
Rogues and Scoundrels: Possibly some more Chaos Cultists (perhaps I could try and improve on the ones I did before), or else I could do some Chaos Marines, as they are definitely scoundrels of a sort!
Uprising: Cultists would fit this theme as well. Not sure what else I have that would work.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Hmm... would Farsight Enclaves stuff count for "Uprising"? I have very little for any of these categories, unless I get something interesting as a commission job. Pretty much all I have to paint are Hazard suits.

I think so - they're rebels by technicality, so I'd put them in that category

I went rogues and scoundrels because I always need more Freebooterz in the army and they're so much fun to model and paint.
I think black and white would yield some amazing results too, so if it doesn't win, can we rerun it the following month?

And now, I shall paint an FSE Ethereal, for the sake of absurd irony.

Looks like a 3-way tie so far, but there's more time for others to chime in and vote.

My Freebooterz army will also have to be my choice if Rogues and Scoundrels gets through - in a way that might be better than Uprising as I haven't the models for that yet, but it's still something I want to do.

Hoping Black and White takes it, it's been a while since we've had a more abstract theme and it might be an excuse for me to treat myself to the Deathwatch Watch Master model, black armour, white cape...

I am happy with the choice, but I will have to make up some new marines to paint.

I feel like using marines that are base coated black is cheating when its black templar. I know the comp is a bit fast and loose... but that's too easy.

To be clear, B&W hasn't won yet, there's still 12 hours or so on the vote and it's still pretty close, so it may yet fall off the top spot!

While it's entirely up to you of course, as the organiser I wouldn't frown on you (or anyone else) doing something like a BT Marine from a black basecoat! Speaking as someone just wrapping up a Deathwatch army project I know as well as any that there's a lot more to black than just the undercoat, so I certainly wouldn't view it as 'cheating' or anything.

Well, with the scheme/style I am going for, after black base coat... its just line highlighting and details. Not that it takes long to airbrush the black on

Although, some BT in your style of painting would be pretty fantastic

That was a close one! Rogues and Scoundrels has taken it by a single vote, Black and White will return next month.
