So first off:
- The tournament is heavily maelstrom and has no battle brothers (Skit and AM are one faction).
Link to event Rules for Event
Spoiler:
Overview
This is a three-round single day tournament that encourages fun and camaraderie. It plays with a version of modified maelstrom (described below). It is, however, an ITC event and will award ITC standing points, and other than the mission style, and a couple rules changes set out below, uses all the applicable ITC rules and FAQ.
This tournament takes “beer and pretzels” seriously – it is a potluck. Every player is required to bring food to share with the group. This is a requirement, just like buying a ticket. No food, no play. Guardian Games has been nice enough to let us continue the potluck tradition, but food only, no drink. All drinks (including alcohol) must be purchased from the store. Because alcohol is available, this event is limited to players 21+ only. With 30+ players, each bringing 30+ food dishes, we should have quite the feast.
Army Composition
1500 pts, all current books and legal armies allowed. Max of 3 detachments. Forgeworld is allowed. Modified ranged D as per ITC rules.
ITC Rules Modifications
The Battle Brothers rule is not in effect - the best you can be is an Ally of Convenience
Space Marine Chapters are their own faction. So the best a Space Wolf can be is an ally of convnenience to a White Scar.
Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus are one faction.
Scenarios
Deck Building
Each player must bring a deck of 28 tactical objective cards. Since the basic deck contains 36 cards, this will mean players will customize the deck they bring. Decks must be built from the same source, ie you can use the main deck, or a race specific deck, but you cannot mix or combine.
Card Draw
When you draw a card, if it is impossible to achieve because of your opponent’s army, you may immediately discard it and draw another. (This does not apply if it is impossible to achieve because of your own army choices. You had the chance to fix that in customizing your deck.)
Cards that award d3 victory points award 2. If a card were to award more than 4+ points, it awards 3.
Maelstrom Victory Points
This tournament uses a modified version of Maelstrom that has worked well for us in the past. It helps to think of it like a tennis match, ie. game-set-match.
You score tactical objective points as normal, ie at the end of each player turn. At the end of each GAME TURN you total who got the most tactical objective points for that turn. You only count points achieved that game turn, you do not carry over from previous game turns. (So unlike typical Maelstrom games, you don’t keep a running tally for the entire game). Whoever achieved the most tactical objective points won that turn. A win gets 2 set points. A tie gets each player 1 set point.
EXAMPLE: Susan achieves all three of her Maelstrom cards in turn 1, yielding her 3 Maelstrom points. Bob achieves only one his cards, but it’s a card that awards d3 maelstrom points. The tournament rules say d3 cards award a flat 2. So Susan wins GAME TURN 1, and is credited with 2 set points for her win.
The first player to accumulate 7 set points wins the match. The game ends at the conclusion of either the turn where a player reaches 7 set points, or the end of turn 6, whichever comes first. If, at the end of turn six neither player has accumulated 7 set points (because they tied all six turns), or they both reach 7 points at the conclusion of turn 6, then both players are credited with a tie for the match.
Winning the match is worth 6 battle points. A tie on the match is 3 battle points. In addition, you get one battle point for each of the four secondary objectives in the match. For a maximum possible 10 battle points each round.
Round Length
Each round is 2.5 hours. Players are encouraged to keep an eye on the clock and try to complete their turns quickly. If time is called at the 2.5-hour mark, and the players have not completed the game, it will be up to the sole discretion of the judge to either call the game for one person or the other, or to declare no winner. This ruling will may be arbitrary and subjective, and is not appealable. Players who do not want their games determined by arbitrary ruling should play quickly and efficiently.

- I really want to have Celestine in the list and am trying to find a way to make Sisters (with or without additions) work for me in this format.
- I'm trying to keep it to models I mostly have painted, but I have some leeway since I have a month or so to work on it. (I have tons of Sisters, Space Wolves (counts-as any chapter if I have the stuff), Guard and Inquisition.)
- My process for lists is to throw a lot of stuff at the wall, make tons of lists and then sort between them. I'm also a tinkerer, so this will probably get long.

I had originally gone with a Psybolt Chimera, but swapped out for Jokers and then swapped that for more bodies and a LSS.

1. Are you certain that you want dominions? I prefer them for ignores cover myself, but one thing to keep in mind with the recycling troops in castellans is a squad of Tempestus deepstriking with 2 melta guns and a Taurox is a bit cheaper.
They aren't as good in some things, but recycling Taurox are nice.
2. What does Raptor CT do?
3. I don't think you can take a repressor with Castellans. I think it was you that convinced me you can't. Or are you thinking along the lines that if you pull them from Codex: AS, Repressors become a thing?

1) I thought about MT as deepstriking recyclers and it is a cool idea, but I just like Doms. Also, I don't own Taurox. 2) Stealth on turn 1, scout and it makes your bolt weapons Heavy 1 Rending 3) If you take them from AS, you can take repressors as DT. If you take them from IA, you cannot.

I'm with you. If I could fit it in 1850 I would take 6 units of dominions, especially in my Ghostkeel / DA / 2+ Nurgle Demon jink meta. I just also feel like I'm wasting an opportunity by not taking more troops choices. Are Raptors vanilla marine book? I don't recall that one at all. I've been considering the +1 stealth marines for my 1850 castellans list since so much stuff is on foot.
1. Are you giving your Immo's MM's or HF's?
2. I'd consider Rhino's on Dominions. They will either scout up and expose cross shots at their side armor, or outflank and expose their sides/rear. I fear your wasting the 75 points on AV 13 you cant use. Those points you save could afford a Munitorum Ammo Container, which gives a lot of nice benefits, including the ability to Torrent your Rets. I think dropping THEIR repressor + the saves points on Rhino's might get a second Exorcist or be close to it.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on my Castellans if you get a chance.
1) MM. Is there another kind? 2) Rhinos only have 2 FP. Part of my love for repressors is the extra FP. I don't actually own any containers right now, although I really want them.

I think that this is good vs other marines. I think it would have a hard time vs a knight or two, if the knights went first.
That said, I don't know how often Knights pop up in your Meta, but we see one or two even at 1500-1850. (1850 is usually 3 if any.)
3 Grav Cents, a bunch of melta (including multimelta) and grav on bikes can't take down knights?

I only mentioned that if the Knights went first it would be problematic. On average, an Avenger Gatling Cannon will wipe a jinking squad of 3 bikes.
Also.
-Each Melta Gun only has a 68% of hitting, a 34% chance taking a HP, and then a 50% chance of it being saved assuming that the shield is facing them or the knight is behind a ammo crate.
-Each Grav Gun only has a 68% chance of hitting, a 17% chance of a HP from a 6, and a 50% chance of that being saved.
Granted, thats made better if you get either side armor, negate the shield, or get melta range. But if a Knight player rolls well on cover or his saved, it could be an issue.
Also, hilariously enough, Celestine probably does okay against knights. S5 + armour bane. So a little under armor 13 on average (12 average).

This. This is so true. I love it.
If I could just solve my Troops issue with this detachment. There's good ones, I just don't know the best way to go about it.

Keep in mind that:
- You can split shield facings.
- Grav Guns are 3 shots and 5 shots respectively. Amps give rerolls on armor pen.
- I'll probably be rolling prescience on my Libby.
- Grav Cent: 5 Shots, 2/3 hit, 11/36 Immob. 110/118 without prescience. So Each grav cent gets roughly one result before invul.
- Grav Cent with Prescience: 5 Shots, 8/9 hit, 11/36 Immob. 440/324. So a bit more like 1 and a third for each.
- Grav Bikes: 3 shots, 2/3 hit, 1/6 Immob. 6/18. So 1/3 results per gravgun. Much less impressive. You can still use them to split facings though.
Either way, I'm not super worried about knights. On average, I should be able to drop one in the first turn, even if he goes first, unless he hides in the corner.

Bikes are crazy good with Castellans. One of the problems with Castellans is having to walk on if your transport doesn't work and then slogging up the field. Bikes can just drive on and then boost out wherever.

I get the bikes thing, I totally do. They're fast enough to get back into the fight. For around the same price I get scouts + a speeder.
While the scouts won't do much, the speeder can get re-involved.
Have they ever detangled whether scouts can outflank from ongoing reserves?
Keep in mind that the scouts don't automatically get the Speeder, they are separate rolls.
That is still up in the air, I think.
